I don't think Lexi tries to drive a wedge but she puts one brothers recovery over the wants/needs of the other.

No the point is Stefan and Damon are fundamentally different at being vampires. Damon acts like all Stefan needs to to not feel guilty but he doesn't offer an alternative. He just shows him it futile to be a good person and drink human blood. Moderation works until it doesn't. It seems Damon doesn't want to deal with with the fact that Stefan wants to be a good person and not hurt anyone so he just throws things at him until it sticks which isn't good for an addict

She did drive a wedge between the brothers. I can't give you an example due to the spoiler but I will mention this when the occasion arises.

What an extraordinary episode, giving to the entire vampire thing a foundation's story that is organic and that makes perfect sense. That is why any other show about vampires will have to deal with this show, because you cannot give more perfect explanation for the existance of vampires than this one. The lore in this show is amazing.

Damon and Stefan are brothers, that might get into fighting and have heighten brotherly rivalry, but ultimately their relationship is base on deep love. Damon wouldn’t leave his brother all chained up: “I couldn’t leave you in a cell to rot”. I love when Damon calls him Stef, expressing tenderness. The humanity switch could be switch on again all at once, or it could be a gradual process, letting only certain emotion gradually surface, little by little until you can handle again with the feelings difficult to cope with or blocking what is inconvenient. So at the moment Stefan is on that stage, a sort of dimmer switch that can be turn a little just to feel something. So Damon is in big brother mode, he couldn’t leave him chained up and miserable and Stefan couldn't possibly let Damon die, those two do love each other. Stefan doesn’t need to be work at, by some Lexi torture routine that would take decades to work, that is not the way to motivate someone to switch back to humanity. Stefan needs love, tenderness, and some kick in the ass by his big brother. As Elena pointed out, only Damon can bring him back. Elena is always the one that can get information out of everyone, from Elijah, Katherine and now Rebekah. She is so smart and she can read people like no other. I absolutely love the little intimate interactions between Damon and Elena, specially the little scene at the end, where they look like a married couple telling each other how was their day laying in bed together. Elena bedroom is becoming Elena and Damon private place where they really have their own private meaningful conversations about important things and feelings. That scene in bed together, feels so intimate, they are so comfortable around each other. Elena would have never let him stay while she was falling asleep in season 2, now she is just totally at ease with him so close in bed with her. Delena is just adorably real. The way Damon looks at Elena at the end.....he is so deeply in love. TVD is not about a love triangle, is about family, family values, friendship, and love of course but mostly love between family members that sometimes could be very trying, see the Salvatore, and the Original family, poor Rebecca. By the way I love when the brothers walk side by side, same type of walk, same pace, same way of dangling the arms, they so look like real brothers. And the way the Salvatore brothers can pull a leather jacket it's a story on its own. 🔥😁

Harry dear, couldn't you include your thoughts about this episode, at the beginng of the next one? It could be interesting since you might have had the time to think about it.

It is a wonderful episode! Kudos to the writers for always being so careful with how they drop hints earlier in the seasons and how everything eventually links up. In short, they never leave loose ends. Having the backstory presented about the origin of vampires and why they have certain weaknesses that reduce their power is extremely intriguing; it makes so much sense that it is nature fighting back to maintain balance. I feel bad for Rebecca, because she's been kept in the dark for too long (it's an understatement). On the other hand, like she said, she's got no one else and immortality isn't the greatest gift for her. Yet, I love how she threatened Elena to let her know she won't forgive anyone who hurts her brother. I love her attitude, but she's very gullible too, like Elena said. For me, it is such a joy to see Damon and Stefan together as brothers. This was the first time they were just hanging out with each other and being honest with each other. There was a lot of past tension in Season 1, and in Season 2, they were at each other's throats about how to deal with Klaus and the sacrifice ritual. But now Stefan is back after he left with Klaus for Damon. Seeing his baby brother give up, you can see how unhappy Damon is. He doesn't want to follow Lexi's tactics because he doesn't think it works and I agree with him. Instead of just giving up on his natural vampire instinct for blood, Stefan needs to learn how to control his blood lust. One of Damon's strongest traits is that he doesn't judge others since he knows what it's like to be judged. It doesn't bother him if Stefan is on the edge, so long as he can avoid falling off, not for anyone else, but for Stefan's own sake (his guilt).I personally think if Stefan could see things from this perspective, it would really help him. But he needs to make the decision for himself. These two brothers love each other and that love goes way too deep. They don’t like to express it in the typical mannerisms but we can always pinpoint exactly how much they care for another. Damon can’t let his baby brother rot in a cell and Stefan, even under compulsion and with his humanity off, couldn't allow himself to not care about his elder brother’s life. But of course he had to act as a smart arse which I’m happy about that Damon gave it back to him. One of Elena’s greatest strengths is her ability to read people and she is able to find weak spots and it works like magic for her. She did it with Damon unknowingly but with Elijah and Rebekah we can see how she is very smart about her wording.I guess because she understands emotions; she knows how to use them too when there is the need. She takes the risk of upsetting people who can lose their mind and literally kill her in a second but she doesn’t let that stop her from going about things at her own pace. I don’t think we can blame Damon for being worried but notice that he believed she could handle it and didn’t stop her. And Harry you aren’t alone when you say you like their team because I have said it from the beginning; they make the best team. The scene in Elena’s room at night is the perfect ending to this episode. They both had a long day and different experiences and at the end of the day spent time speaking to each other about it like best friends or a couple would do so. She tried to get him to move but at the end gave up and slid into her bed. It goes on to show how much progress they have made since Season 2 for sure but also we can’t forget how these two have always shared this kind of intimacy from the beginning. Damon and Elena spoke to each other about how she wasn’t liking cheerleading and she found out about Katherine from Damon in Season 1. It’s just how they’re with each other. But what has changed is the physical closeness and Elena’s comfort with the same. Yes he wasn’t in bed with her because he was lying on top of the duvet while she was under the duvet so there still is that space which is great and respectful. But I love these intimate moments!! The moment Elena spoke about loving someone recklessly and blindly even though it consumes you; notice the look these two exchange exactly depicting how they resonate with this statement and both of them know. It’s so damn beautiful! What won my heart was Elena acknowledging that the brothers' love is greater than their love for Elena! It’s not an easy thing to accept for some people but I love that she said that to Damon and they both just understood the undertone. It had the right vibe and made me super happy! I think it was important for Damon to hear this too; needs to know that Stefan does care for him and love him no matter how much his baby brother tries to deny.

I forgot to give one explanation. Stefan was compelled to turn his humanity off, he was never compelled to keep it off. So if Stefan is motivated enough, he can decide to turn his humanity back again. The problem is the will to want to do that. That is why is Damon's love the key to this, because love is the most powerful emotion there is and the love the two brothers have runs very deep and at the end of the day is the most important thing they have.

Harry Allen

If that is something you would like to see then I would definately be down to do that! I don't like having intros be too long but I can just edit it out of the YouTube version! Will need to skim through the episode again tho as my memory is that of an almond lol

Harry Allen

Honestly I am still blown away at how intricate this show is, the fact that EVERY SINGLE weakness a vampire has had since day one actually has a logical reason for being there, wow, just wow

Patpet

The writer of this show are amazing, that is why this show is so popular and watch by so many over and over again, everything is connected explained and motivated. You know now everytime I watch a show and I see something, a villian for instance I ask myself, why this guy is a villian? Hardly ever a show give me answers. TVD answer to everything and so briliantly. Thsi show is a puzzle, they give us all the pieces to build an entire world that makes perfect sense and where all characters even the most hidious one are the hero of their story, have motivations to act the way they do. This show has such huge dept.

Patpet

I would, I don't know the others but I pretty much can guess that everebody would be interested. Great part of the show reaction fun is the conversation that opens up.

I agree with PatPet and Archna about how Lexi dealt with Stefan’s blood lust. It was not the best method for Stefan because it reminds him of the negative aspect of vampirism instead of dealing with the inerrable of needing human blood since he was a vampire. Avoiding vampire nature and guilt-tripping was the last thing Stefan required to help him since he was already drowning in guilt. Stefan keeps repeating the same cycle between the ripper, bunny diet, and guilt, believing that feeling guilt made him a good a person. But how far does feeling guilt will take anyone? Stefan’s method of feeling like a good person seems unrealistic and a form to avoid the the truth about himself. I agree with Damon’s method of dealing with Stefan’s blood lust by showing his brother the futility of drowning in guilt and that moderation is possible for Stefan without making his brother feel guilty of being a vampire. Damon is aware that regret and self-righteousness made Stefan go over the edge multiple times. For Damon, the bunny diet was an unrealistic lifestyle for Stefan since he failed that diet several times. Still, worse of all, it made Stefan's hunger for human blood a dangerous situation for his brother Stefan and Everyone around Stefan.

It is easy to see that Damon and Elena have similar traits, such as confronting obstacles with almost whatever they can to save the people. They love hard even if it consumes them. Damon's facial expressions when Elena mentioned those words about Rebekah are priceless. It makes my heart flutter. You guys know what I mean ‼️ They also share essential core values, which are valuing truth and realism. For Elena, these values shine brighter when she is around Damon. It is so beautiful to see them being themselves and relaxing around each other. It is like watching a live couple through a window. It almost feels real. Now, what is up with Damon with Elena's teddy bear?!! He is always playing with it. 🤣🤣 I love how comfortable he is around Elena, talking about his day with the teddy bear by his side. I love how Elena does the same with Damon, talking about her day with him. It makes me laugh seeing Elena trying to go to sleep on her bed and pulling the blanket from Damon since he was lying on top of it. It was not Damon's intention to get under the blanket with Elena., The blanket pulling is such a couple of things to do. I lost count of how many times I had to pull the blanket from my husband. For Elena feeling too comfortable sleeping next to Damon can only mean that he earned her trust. Even after snapping Jeremy's neck, Damon didn't let that incident do something worst but worked with all his might to earn Elena’s trust in him, and we know how significant this is when compared to the upcoming episode 11. It was so heartwarming when Elena told Damon that he would save Stefan due to the love they have for each other, not because of her. Katherine separates the brothers. Lexi drives a wedge between them, but Elena brings those brothers back together.
