Can't wait for the finale!!! Btw, are you gonna post the last two episodes of Skam France s5?

Aaron Davis

It’s crazy how quickly I downloaded this when I saw it dropped 😅.

Emily Brown

This was such a rough episode. 😔

HalfLighter

I saw a Myers-Briggs analysis of Nick and Charlie that made the point that people with Charlie's personality type have a tendency to put off emotional confrontations because they vastly prioritize the emotional states of people in the current moment over potential future emotions. Basically, as soon as Tao became the last one to know about their relationship it became nearly impossible for Charlie to tell him because it was always going to lead to hurt feelings, which Charlie cannot tolerate. One opinion.

Harry Allen

Oh my god thank you for reminding me!!! I was unable to recover episode 9 (same with Picard which was upsetting) but I will upload episode 10 right now! Sorry for the wait tho I was seeing if I could get episode 9 back however after I couldn't I just forgot to post the finale 😭

Tom Bendall

Ben’s behaviour is absolutely inexcusable. But under the surface, he’s also a scared & insecure kid who hates himself, and I think Bash’s performance captures the nuances of that really well. Making you despise a character *this much* without turning him into a lazy caricature villain is an underrated skill.

Charlie

I really liked the question/comment about the broken glass theme for this episode. I think in part it’s symbolic of Charlie’s broken image of himself and his self worth. Even the mirror in his room is designed to resemble fractures in the glass, so every time he looks in the mirror he’ll always see distorted versions of himself. This episode in particular starts to set up a lot of the mental health storylines that will be further developed in the next two seasons. There’s definitely going to be darker undertones to future episodes, but the beautiful thing about Alice Oseman’s writing and the style of the show is that it will show even the darkest themes through an optimistic lens.

I'm a reader, not a watcher. But: My kid forced me to watch Heartstopper with them, and NOW guess who's the one who became obsessed with the story. Yeah, that's right, it's mum. So after having watched it multible times (easily more than ten), of course having read the graphic novels nearly every evening since and then starting to watch also reaction videos (a first for me) I think I have a pretty good understanding about the dynamics of the story, and it's so, so good!! It's the kind of stuff where you spot a new detail with every time you reread/-watch it, even more in the novels but in the show as well. By the way, your reactions are my favourite ones. They are so impressive, very funny at times, but first and foremost sooo insightful and that on your first time watching... I like it. So now two things I'd like to mention. I absolutely hated Ben and Harry the first time watching the show, and I still do in a way, but I genuinely believe that there's hope for both becoming better persons when they grow up. Ben needs to face some things about himself first. (Plus he needs to stay away from Charlie!!!!) And Harry needs to grasp, that if his "jokes" hurt someone, they are not funny. I also think, even spewing all that homophobic stuff, he is less homophobic than for example Ben. He "just" picks up on anything that might be a possibility to make fun of people. He's just as ready to pick on Tao about Elle ("Who's Elle? Your GIRLfriend?") as he is on a possible gay relationship. Doesn't make it better of course. The most homophobic person in the series in my opinion is that long haired girl in episode 6 who genuinely thinks that Tara and Darcy are gross. That's so sad!

The second thing is Nick's friendgroup. I once took the time to watch all scenes where they are in and focus not on the action but on the people watching in the background. They are not all reacting the same way. Some are always laughing when Harry starts being mean, but others are standing in the background looking uncomfortable. (It's mainly Sai, Christian and Otis from the novels. I like that they cast them and hope to see more of them on screen in the future.) I also like that Charlie is more forgiving to them than Nick is. Another thing that I noticed is that the year11s also laugh when Tao get's the better of Harry. That must have pissed him off a lot, hee hee. Well, I'm looking forward to watch your reaction to the finale!! Have a nice day, Harry, and have a nice day fellow Heartstopper fans. :)

Also I very strongly recommend - even to people who don't normally read - to give it a try with Alice Oseman's novella "Nick and Charlie". It's short and prose, not a graphic novel. Set around the time when Nick graduates. I like it even more than the original Heartstopper. I had happy tears with the graphic novels and the show on multible occasions, but that was the one that got me happy sobbing by the end of it.

That's too bad about episode 9... But thank you for posting the finale ♥

Charley

There’s something I haven’t really seen from people talking about Nick’s reaction to Harry’s bullying and their friends’ passivity and that is that he’s not just defending Charlie. Harry and their friends don’t realize it, but Nick knows that all the stuff they are saying and laughing about is about him too. I think while a lot of Nick’s reactions are definitely in defense of Charlie because he cares so deeply about him and wants to protect him, there’s also a part of him that knows that his friends could start throwing around the same homophobic rhetoric about him the minute he decides to come out and that is also a really painful realization. Like when he’s in the car with his mom after the fight and he says, “I’m just so angry with myself for not realizing that all my friends suck,” that’s not really a realization that they are shitty to Charlie. He’s known how they feel about Charley and how they’ve treated him for a long time. Maybe he thought he could make some of them see the issues with their behavior, or maybe he was just scared to lose all the people he’s called friends for the past 4 years, but he’s just now coming to terms with the fact that that same ire and disgust could be spewed in his direction with the same ease it’s spewed at Charlie. Nick’s also now seen how far his friends will go in not standing up to Harry, even when he’s throwing around slurs and egging his so-called friend into a fight when Charlie isn’t even there. That’s a horrifying realization to come to, that no matter how long they’ve been his mates, they would rather avoid confronting Harry and getting added to his shit list than stand in solidarity with their friend. I think those of us who have read the comics and even folks who have just watched the show a number of times, can see the increasing uneasiness with Harry’s behavior by several of their mates, but all Nick can see is that he is alone in standing up to someone who is saying disgusting things about not only the boy he has feelings for, but about him too. I just thing this is such a crucial part of Nick’s journey in coming to terms with himself, even if it is so painful. I can remember the first time I heard someone say something homophobic and thought, “Oh...they’re talking about me...” rather than, “You shouldn’t say that about people because it’s mean and bigoted,” and it’s such a relatable moment of despair and grief and anger.

Oooh, thank you for pointing that out! Now I remember the scene in episode 5 when Tao starts "verbally fighting back". Nick begins standing up for Charlie and Tao until Harry says "Are you gay for them?" Then he falls quiet and Tao takes over. After reading your comment that scene clearly comes to mind again and makes even more sense.
