In the show Elena’s transition to a vampire symbolise her transition from a girl into a woman. Her not knowing what she wants, even in regards of the two the brothers, is very much related to the fact that when you are in that transition period, it is very difficult and could be unsettling to let go of your childhood, to your certainties, and enter in a new territory, not knowing what you are going to become and what you want from life. Teen Elena was very judgmental, very preoccupied with what her friend think of her and what everybody expect from her, specially because she was put in a position of having to be responsible for Jeremy and to grow up faster, but remaining a very young girl with the insecurities and the lack of experience that being so young brings. Becoming a vampire made you change, because your emotions are heightened, but are still your emotions, but are much clearer, much more obvious. That force you to face your inner self and your impulse, that force you to make choices that has humans you could buried and ignore, making the entire process of growing up into your adult self much faster and more sudden, as it happened to Caroline that became her real self once she became a vampire. That is why the Elena, Stefan and Damon, thing is not a love triangle but a journey in the life of these three people, what is the significance of these three people have in each other life and how they influence each other in evolving as a person, because this is not just Elena evolving, it is also about the brothers letting go of their traumatic past and finding inner peace in a present that is not related to the past. But they all have to understand their limit and their compatibility and accept them, Stefan explain very well to Caroline why he and Elena are not the most compatible choice, his unresolved issues with blood lust are a problem, he can’t let himself go and he is holding her back. Even Elena knows, in her hallucination she knows she is much more like Damon than she is to Stefan, as human Elena and Damon as vampire are both impulsive, passionate and reckless, and now that she is a vampire, those traits are even more obvious, not to mention her physical attraction to Damon so clear when she went in his room looking or the white oak stake and she stared at Damon’s body, undressing, at the point that he had to ask her if she want to stay for “the show”. On a personal note, I would have stayed....😜😆 A part from the jokes, don’t be impatient, Harry, trust the journey and the writers that the lingering has the purpose to make the journey truly significant and memorable. Damon doesn’t show his feelings he is very much a man of the past centuries, where man don’t cry or show weakness in the presence of others, and also being a vampire in constant danger he is used to now not to show his vulnerability. But it slip through. If Alaric was alive her would have call him to help. But he is not around anymore, he cannot talk to him and cannot call him for help. So the closest thing he has of him is Meredith, and by involving her, he is expressing how much he miss Alaric in his life as he said in the episode before “...no candle can make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is a hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be...” he says petting the bottle at the end. He is going around wwith a hole in his heart, so this hunter thing and Elena’s problems are the things to distract him from not feeling deeply alone and lost, with no purpose in life. In the car with Stefan he said he would leave town only because Stefan as usual, pushed him into it, like, ok if you do it then I’ll do it, but he doesn’t want to, really and even Stefan doesn’t want him to go, at this point.

PatPet, l love your comment about TVD not being a love triangle but a life journey for each character. In addition, seeing the story through Delena and Stelena's mindset steals us from the opportunity to see the beautiful arc each character partakes in. If we must put a geometric shape into this equation, TVD was never about a love triangle but a matter between four characters: a square between Damon, Elena, Katherine, and Stefan. At the beginning of season 1, each of these characters had a triangle in their heart, making this love story into a dodecagon, which has been closing into a smaller shape as the story moves along.

So true, even if Katherine is not around at the moment, she is very much a strong presence, we are not allowed to forget, because the consequences of her doings are still so intertwined with everybody's life, and the effct of it are activelly lingering in Elena's, Stefan's and Damon's present life. The players here are 4.

I think I'm going to miss out on somethings because today I'm just not feeling good about being able to gather all of my thoughts but let me try😂 Firstly, I want to talk about Stefan and Caroline's scenes in this episode. I think it was last in season 2 when we got to see them forming the bond as friends and since then it's only now, we can see the tables have turned and this time it's Stefan who is seeking her help. I totally am on board with the friendship because I think these two have a good understanding and it works beautifully. There is a lot more honesty on Stefan's part when he is with Caroline because he never had to be this perfect role model with her from the beginning. But I have to say this, I don't think Caroline is good at being a vampire only because of Stefan. No don't get me wrong, I know that it was Stefan who believed in her ability to make this work for her, and he had put in the effort to show her ropes but to be nothing but honest, she is good at control because she was always a control freak even as a human. The thing that changed for Caroline was that she no longer was insecure after being a vampire. She found the strength and confidence to be nothing but herself and it worked out for her. So, while I like the bonding between Stefan and Caroline, I just wish she would also give herself some credit for being good at being a vampire. Stefan is noticing the changes in Elena as she herself is facing these changes. I know he is feeling like he is holding her back and he would like to enjoy things with her, but he can't risk being a ripper. I get it, it's not a good feeling but then I can't help, and think is that all? If he is thinking that he is holding her back, would he be ready to let her go? Is he ready to accept these changes in Elena? I think all of these questions must be bothering him. And I loved that you picked up on the changes Stefan has been going through himself since the first episode of this season emotionally and mentally. But I get it, things can never be easy especially when you feel the person you thought you knew completely is changing or maybe just becoming and accepting more of themselves as they're growing up. Damon isn't being dramatic and it's the truth! He honestly doesn't know how to be around in town anymore although he doesn't want to leave because why would he wanna roam the world alone when he can be with his brother, around Elena and others. It's like he is trying to be the grown up one, so he is keeping himself occupied with the hunter and seeking Meredith as a friend in moments but then the man has to allow himself to just let his own feelings sink in too. It would be painful but how long can one go ignoring? I do miss Alaric in these moments because if nothing else, he would have someone to just to share things with. Elena's hallucinations were interesting to say the least. She is in the middle of this intense make out session with her boyfriend however her mind ends up picturing Damon and it just makes me go wow no surprises here😂the physical/sexual attraction she shares with Damon has always been apparent, but she has buried it into the ground most of the times in the past for good reasons like the fact that she was in a relationship with Stefan. But in moments like these, her mind just ends up reminding her that there is still something she hasn't fully gotten over with. The moment in the bedroom was so domestic of them! She is just messing up his things in his room like she owns it and the fact that he could read right through her about what exactly she was looking for in his room. I love the banter as always when he just teases her to lighten up the mood😂But I loved that he was there for her when she lost control with Matt. It was important in the moment to make sure Matt would forget about the incident and wouldn't be scared off Elena in the future otherwise her shame and guilt would add. Damon's right, she doesn't need to be ashamed but only learn how to control bloodlust and he's the right person to teach because he knows how to control his bloodlust. There's no way he can leave her behind and go out of town knowing that she is going to be miserable. I honestly wonder why Damon went to Elena's place at this time. Was he going to say bye to her because he was going to leave town but then he saw that she needed his help and hence his plans changed? I am not sure but it's just my assumption. Let's see how he is going to help her out. Lastly, I'm glad you said that you know it's not just about a love triangle. It's actually about these three characters who are linked to each other and can't do without each other. They each need the other two and it's the fact and in this journey amongst many other journeys we keep learning about how they evolve as individuals but also in their relationships whether romantic or platonic friendships.
