Ben saying “I haven’t spoken to you properly in ages” as if he *ever* spoke to Charlie in public is so ??? he’s so gross and awful

There is a video where the cast reacts to scenes from the show and Bash said of Ben “I want to punch him in the face, and that’s my face” 😂😂

Charlie

Can we all just agree that Nick and Charlie are the most Instagrammable couple ever? They literally look adorable in every single photo

Ever since I watched this season I have needed someone to react as viscerally as I did to Ben sitting down next to Charlie, and you did not disappoint lol. That scene made my skin crawl. Also, I don’t know if you caught Nick starting to get up before Imogen went off, but Alice answered a question on social media asking what Nick was about to do, and she answered that he would have probably gotten up to quietly ask Charlie to switch seats with him, and told Ben to leave Charlie the fuck alone (because he wouldn’t have wanted to make Charlie uncomfortable by causing a big scene, but he wouldn’t have left Charlie sitting there while Ben tried to talk to him).

While I did think the chat between Charlie, Nick and Imogen was sweet, and very much needed. I can’t help but feel like that moment didn’t play out the way it should. Or at least how I’d have liked. Now I’m a dude, so my understanding of “Girl Code” and the like is gonna be limited. But I found it incredibly hard to believe that Ben and Imogen had that argument, He calls her a B****, she goes off to what appears to be the bathroom in tears, and NONE of the girls immediately rally behind her?! Imogen expressed that she doesn’t have many friends. But looking closer, it seems like she doesn’t have any GIRL friends. Besides the girls she screamed with at Harry’s party that we never got a look at, we’ve only seen her with the rugby lads and Ben until recently. My theory is that she is terrible at balancing her relationships, and her platonic ones (with girls in particular) suffered in her pursuit of romantic ones. Simply put she may be a bit “Boy Crazy.” I truly believe having the girls support her in that moment (as they should have imo, Elle in particular given their earlier chat) could have been reeeeally good for Imogen, and hammer in the fact that her life does not and should not revolve around boys. I don’t know it just felt really weird to not see that moment. Unnatural even.

I think it made complete sense for her best friend, Nick, to be the one to console her after that moment with Ben. Especially since she is only just starting to hangout with the girls in the core friend-group. Her only real connection to them so far is through Nick and having a past with Sahar

I don’t know. I think they interacted with her more than enough to rally behind her in an incident like this. Especially Elle since they had a chat about Ben the same day. Now mind you I am all for Nick checking on Imogen. He SHOULD check on Imogen. But I genuinely believe that specific moment in time should’ve been for the girls.

Ah Ben…Ben Ben Ben. I remember in S1 E1 when Ben said something along the lines of “I really like you, I’m just figuring stuff out” and immediately thinking “Boy please!” I had assumed the same resentment he has for Nick also applied to Charlie. But even after everything that’s happened, what Charlie said to him after the race in the final episode of S1. The way he looks at him this episode……holy crap, he liked Him, and STILL likes him! I actually went and watched past scenes with him and Charlie and it kind of shifts my view of how he reacts to things. Like him lashing out at the theatre. I always viewed it as a him being a Narcissistic, possessive asshole. But now he’s a narcissistic, possessive asshole….who’s hurt. Perhaps even heartbroken 😂. Even this Dinner scene. Obviously his audacity to speak to Charlie is crazy. But I can’t help but make note of what to me looks like desperation to be back in Charlie’s good graces. Ben has NEVER interacted with Charlie publicly (well except for that one time when he essentially called Charlie a stranger). To try to talk Charlie now so familiarly, in front of Nick, not to mention he and Charlie’s friends. Hell, HARRY?! Ben saw an opportunity to speak to Charlie and he was NOT going to let it pass him by. I guess I now find him a little more interesting since he kinda shows how people can genuinely care about someone, yet treat them poorly. How liking or loving someone is just not enough. Now as for redemption arcs, I’m fine with it going either way. There are people like Ben. People who have to watch Heartstopper secretly in fear of Family and Friends. People who’s self hatred is hurting everyone, even those they care about. It wouldn’t hurt to show that they can change for the better. However if they do go that route, I really, really, REALLY hope Charlie doesn’t forgive him. It would be a nice lesson in actions having consequences, how repentance does not guarantee forgiveness or reconciliation, and how neither of those things are necessary to overcome trauma and heal.

Harry saying to Ben that there’s no need to call Imogen a bitch makes perfect sense in that he might be a complete dick most of the time, but he and Imogen have been friends and have been hanging out since season 1 and he sticks up for her because of that. I tend to see Harry as an immature, idiotic character who needs to grow up and Ben as much more dangerously toxic, much more sly, vindictive and cold. But he still definitely comes across as full of pain, anger and self-hatred, largely down to superb acting by Bash. When it comes to Charlie, we’ve been seeing plenty of small but telling clues since season 1 that he has issues with eating. Not eating his packed lunch in the art classroom, gazing at his bowl of cereals at home and stirring it but not eating anything…It’s very good representation too that the show is exploring how eating disorders can affect boys and men just as much as girls and women, as in my experience, it’s been a common misconception that eating disorders are associated with adolescent girls and are about dieting, rather than actually about a need for control and mental health issues, which can affect anyone.

I about died laughing at your "Ben rescues a puppy" scenario. Truly epic.
