oh, so excited to see your reaction to this ep. unserious question, but was the tao/charlie kiss on your HS season 2 bingo card bc it certainly wasn't on mine 🤭 the teachers! i love them sm and it was one of the things i was excited abt seeing on screen this season. were you expecting the twist of mr farouk being gay? what do you think is going through isaac's mind this episode? did you notice that the james and isaac first kiss paralleled nick and charlie's first kiss? do you think the show is handling things like teen sex and consent for that kind of intimacy well - and realistically? seems to be a point of contention for a lot of viewers who are weirdly obsessed with seeing these teens have sex, so i'm curious how you see it or if you have any opinion on it?

Some people have criticized the Mr. Ajayi/Mr. Farouk storyline as being out of place and distracting in a show largely about and for teenagers. I'm curious about your take on what is added (or taken away) by including the teachers' story.

Isis Rose

To be clear, I personally STRONGLY disagree with that criticism, and love them immensely.

Now that you’ve met Nick’s dad, do you have any new thoughts on the Nelson family dynamic? Some comic info for more detail (I promise this is not a spoiler, it’s supplementary material from the Yearbook that doesn’t give anything away - unlike the Tao outing Charlie thing, which I don’t know why people wouldn’t think that was a spoiler, it’s in Volume 3 😬). Nick was five and David was nine when their parents divorced, which may explain some things about how differently they turned out.

Now that you’ve met Nick’s dad, reflect back on the scene in Episode one when Charlie remembered Nick’s favorite chocolate bar from a passing comment and how appreciative Nick was. Do you think Charlie’s attentiveness is part of what draws Nick to him? Also, do we think his dad’s neglect and how much it hurt(s) has been part of the motivation for Nick to be the caring, attentive person he is? I don’t think he wants anyone to feel neglected or unseen because he knows how that feels. Do you think Nick’s dad was hoping to get out of meeting up entirely by making it difficult - last minute, inconvenient location, they have to come to him while on the school trip?

nick throughout this season is constantly having to reiterate to everyone that hes bisexual when everyone just assumes hes gay because he is going out with charlie, what are your thoughts on how most people’s assumptions are that gay or straight are the two ‘defaults’ and never stop to consider any other sexuality? nicks dad mentions coming to england and meeting up with nick, his mum and david, how do you see this scene playing out and do you think it will be a positive or negative one based on what we know about the 4 of them?

you might have talked about this when the scene was taking place, but I'm curious as to your thoughts on Charlie's constant deflecting of his own well-being in general as well as his feelings in regards to Nick's coming out, with Charlie saying it doesn't matter how he feels about it anyway because it's Nick's coming out and directing the conversation back to Nick's feelings instead. it's pretty consistent with how he's been behaving so far, but that scene felt like one of the most blatant examples of Charlie putting Nick's needs and feelings over his own, and Nick very much taking notice: "Charlie you literally /fainted/ on me today."

There is lots I love about this episode, but I'm curious about your thoughts on Nick's coming out to the party, do you think his protectiveness of Charlie played into that somewhat? Also, Charlie saying "No!" to Harry, is like... an MVP level scene. What are your thoughts on the teachers storyline this season? I think the teachers it's wonderfull, it's great to show teenagers falling in love, but I think the teachers, because they're older, are wonderful representation for anyone older who may have given up on finding love, It's never too late

I would like to know your thoughts on the teachers storyline. I think they are very cute and I would have totally been for a teacher relationship going on however, as a former teacher myself I just was a bit perturbed by the implication that they hooked up during a overnight field trip when they are supposed to be chaperoning students. I found that incredibly unprofessional and just in general not okay at all. The codes of conduct might be different for field trips in the UK but in the US that could be grounds for some disciplinary action or worse depending on the situation so it just didn’t sit right with me. I do really like them and would have liked to see a storyline unfold for them that moved into a romantic partnership but I take issue with that specific aspect of the relationship happening during a school trip where they are chaperones. I would have preferred it happened after they returned and were not “on the clock”. As a teacher, chaperoning trips is not a vacation, as much as it may seem like it to students or those who are not teachers. It’s an extension of the job. Just my thoughts.
