"Frontios buries its own dead. That's what they say, isn't it?", Range, "Frontios" This is a dark story. And the imagery of Captain Revere in the mining machine is pretty shocking. "Oh no! ... On the other hand, with a touch of spin. ... How's that?", The Doctor, "Frontios" Oh no! Another cricket reference! "We remember them! The people of my planet will never forget!", Turlough, "Frontios" I like getting mysterious hints of Turlough's story. "This is ridiculous, running about like rabbits in a hole. If you ask me.", "No one is, Tegan, so shush.", Tegan and the Doctor, "Frontios" And I love the Fifth Doctor and Tegan interplay. "Listen! You're an android -", "I most certainly am not.", "- because if they think you're alive they may get the idea of adding you to their human Meccano set.", "I'm an android", The Doctor and Tegan, "Frontios" deleted scene The episodes were overrunning so some scenes had to be deleted or trimmed. Some of the deleted scenes pick up on the character of Cockerill, who was the orderly who didn't get pulled into the ground and then became the leader of the deserters. He had a deeper and growing rebellious streak in the deleted scenes - he observed the group going to collect the battery in the previous episodes and didn't interfere and later he spotted them again on the top of the ship when they were returning and let them continue. "I got it cheap because the walk's not quite right. And then there's the accent, of course. But, when it's working well, it's very reliable. Keeping track of appointments, financial planning, word processing, that sort of thing.", The Doctor talking about Tegan, "Frontios" How Tegan (Janet) can walk around in the caves (cave sets) in those heels is astonishing. "Nobody expects you to go back down there.", "No, of course they don't. I'm Turlough.", Norna and Turlough, "Frontios" I like the two-coin deception that Turlough plays on Norna. "Besides, what would you want with an old Type 40 Time and Relative Dimension in Space machine, hmm?", The Doctor, "Frontios" I get partial TARDIS in "The Doctor's Wife" vibes (or the other way around given I saw "Frontios" first) as the TARDIS is reassembling. "We can't go dragging around the universe with a dormant Gravis on the console.", Tegan, "Frontios" Funny. On the whole, I didn't think this story was as fun as Christopher H. Bidmead's other stories - but perhaps that's an aspect of the difficult TV production - and the slow-moving Tractators etc. Perhaps it works better as a written book - I'll have to go and dig out the novelisation I have and find out. Christopher Bidmead was on one of those Toby Hadoke podcasts - I should give those a re-listen to see what he has to say about "Frontios". "And I loved the hat-rack!", sesskasays, Reaction to "Frontios" +1
