Hey, remember when you were feeling guilty about only being able to get a couple episodes done before the break? In a reverse of the first set, it's pretty predictable that we'd spend some time catching up with Vi after she sat out the last one, and yeah, this is what I had in mind about less healthy ways of dealing with grief. Welcome to Daisy Johnson land, where one day you'll be saying the eye shadow was just one of the bad decisions you were making around this time. But unlike last week, Jinx still has a substantial role here and we finally get to see them get a decent re-bonding. Her entrance has been a very fun bit for reactions, with just about everyone assuming she's in Vi's head at first, and I definitely appreciate the trust that we'll notice Jinx forgetting how reflections work when copying Vi's tattoo, with no extra attention called to it. Plus, just like Isha's hair, it actually looks like red hair covered in black, thanks to I don't want to know how much extra work from the animators. Everyone knows how sibling fights work even if they don't actually have one, the way they can instantly get under your skin like no one else and reduce you to swatting away like a five year old. So that was a ton of fun, while also doing a great job introducing the sound-based fungi for the more serious Zander fight (and well done having this setup make more sense than in Morbius, not that it's too hard). For a while I wondered if that was Ella voicing their mother, but it turns out it's Jeannie Tirado, one of those highly prolific voice actors who just keep plugging away without many people knowing their name. I know her best as Lana in My Adventures with Superman. One of my big comments on Season 1 was that I never once felt "Maybe this makes more sense if you know the game." And the Black Rose kind of had me thinking it, but I held off on noting it to see if they got any better with it, and this definitely gets there for me. I squeed a bit at Keston John being on the show after loving him so much in She-Ra, where he rivals Dee Bradley Baker in the different personalities he's able to give a bunch of clone characters with the same basic voice. I'd say the whole chain thing is ripping off Dean Winchester in Hell, but they stole it from Hellraiser, so who's keeping score anymore? Lovely to get the deal with Mel cleared up in a way that feels earned while also not being obvious.

Noted about the concealer and the streaks left behind by the copious tears. All things considered; I expected your makeup would be worse for wear. Looks better than it did after the Lilia episode of Agatha. Small victory, though it won’t last. Start with Mel. Figured she would live, for now. We both gathered about her brother at about the same time. You caught on his inhuman movements before I did. Now we seem to know that Mel is the child, presumably. Ambessa and Caitlyn have their hands full with the Ernest Thesiger gentleman. Or, should I call him, Dr. Reveck? Caitlyn calls him a monster. He, of course, knows better than most that “monster” is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We’re just used to being the cat. Ambessa earns my disapproval that she fails to notice that Dr. Reveck does not explicitly give voice to any promise. Not that she cares, I guess. Interesting to learn about Dr. Reveck’s, I assume daughter as well. Jayce has now made it back home, coming out looking all crazy and rugged. Women love that. He went to town with that hammer more than any of us did with the hammer in Super Smash Bros. Jesus Christ, son! All of this is preamble to the main event, and there is the need to prevaricate further. Namely, the catchup with Vi. We had shared reactions to her look. My first reaction to Vi’s new look was, “Oh, no. Not the goth phase, Vi, there are healthier ways to deal with a breakup.” You called it a grungy, emo vibe, which is apt, though it just looks weird on her as she’s a generation behind all the grunge. Or, well, actually, she’s more two generations behind that. Quite saddening a thing to see her trapped in her safety net of the cycle of the endless fight clubbing, and after that, retreating to her room where she drinks and snores and spits and wallows in filth and bemoans her station. This before Jinx comes in and explains about Vander. You summarize well Vi’s refusal to buy that. About the only reason she goes along is one, she finds she still cannot kill her sister, two, likely thinking and realizing Jinx could have just as easily killed Vi without waking her up, so Jinx at least believes she speaks the truth, and three, because of that, I get the feeling she’s going along to confirm the delusion is a delusion, whilst in the dark recesses of her soul, she has that first hope she’s had in how long. Whilst not great, I do like how you assessed the sisterly squabble as something that needed to be let out. The letter scene does get you. Gets Vi too. Leads to the flashback where we get some Silco again. It seems, despite my expectations, that we both got our favorite characters back in this season. Vander and Ekko for you, though Ekko’s just resting at the moment. Silco for me. Mind you, Silco is dead. Leading to the big moment. Vander lives. See you’re much sharper and far smarter than I am, as you caught that possibility instantly. Mind you, I watched this episode right after finishing the last one, so I didn’t necessarily ruminate on it much. But to see that scene strike your heart with ALL of the feels, I raise a drink to you for how quickly you put two and two together on that one, Jess. Me, when he called Jinx by the name of Powder, I went, “...the fuck?” And when the picture became clearer, I went, “...Oh.” and instantly anticipated your reaction. I hear what you’re saying of allowing the possibility of the idea that somehow, Vander returned, was never something seriously considered. A marvelous thing, is it not? A beloved character whom you’ve already made as much as you can peace with their death, they return, and makes you feel everything. Adoration is the word for all of your reaction to the final scene of the family. Vi allows the vulnerability, and like you said, sets aside the bullshit, and says to Jinx that she is family. Something Jinx only ever dreamed that Vi would say. Isha joining in on the hug, you said, “What’s one more?” and laughed. Me, I got emotional and quoted, “Oh! All of you, come over here. Big group hug. Group hug! Ooooh! Do you mind if I kiss the monkey? Mmm-wah! Ach! Ooh, hairball.” The family reunited. The siblings being allowed to see their dad again, have a hug again. Sounds like a lovely, lovely thing, and it surely was a lovely, lovely thing to witness your reaction to that. I am unable to improve on anything of what you said. What’s the Oscars for reaction videos, and can we just give them all to you right now for this show, pretty please with sugar on top? Two other quick things. The interview thing you brought up, I throw my hands up, and say, “I don’t even understand the reference.” And I apologize that you express the wish of a breather from the crying, and I cackled in response. Thank you so, so very much for this most beautiful reaction, Jess.

Given the first act, and first episode of this act, it stood to reason that Vi would get focus. There was brief uncertainty of was Jinx in her head or not. That would be something to break down: How much time it took for the animators, hair color-wise. That’s siblings for you. They always know which buttons to press. I also had a moment of wondering if Ella was the mom, especially when Jess mentioned the voice sounding like it. There is still plenty of stuff in both seasons that has that “Maybe this makes more sense if you know the game.” which leads me to note that when it happens, that I take it certain things are more for the hardcore gamers. I usually ask, “Without spoilers: Something I should know? What am I missing, if anything that’s vital?” Thus far, like the Black Rose thing, it feels layman friendly enough, though I still get the sense that the gamers are getting more from it. We’re both not lost, so it all works out well. The chain thing feels very Hellraiser. Curious how many of the teenage girls especially accuse lots of stuff of ripping off Supernatural like the show was the first thing to do shit. I remember it happened with The Wolf Man in 2010 with Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. There was a belief that it ripped off Twilight, when it’s a remake of the original film that now is over eighty years old. Kids today. So, one episode left of this set, and Jess is caught up before the last third, so, when it comes to Arcane, she can finish it up in one morning when she gets back from her break. Goddamn shame about how her concealer’s not going to hold up, presumably. Cross that bridge when we come to it.
