Quite the lovely new set-up with the redecorating for the new year when this publicly drops on youtube. The boys are presently going through it a bit. Nothing like a spooky case to take their mind off things. You expect things to get spooky when John Badham directs. Had a slight nerdout seeing his name in the credits. I know he’s directed past episodes. Good to see him getting the work. A nice relative breather of things with the Banshees who can’t just go around making people crack their heads open so they can lap up the brains. Why, you may ask, because it isn’t NICE. You say not the best cgi, hey, it is a CW show, so of course the cgi budget is shit. Dee Wallace was a lovely guest star. There is the slight criticism of her name is in the credits, and when she appears as Mildred, you already know that she’s not just showing up for just the one scene. Then again, similar to Mike Farrell guest starring back in season eight, Dee is not playing the villain and instead is playing the significant guest character of the week, and she’s great, no surprise there. The one talk she has with Dean was sweet, shared appreciation there. I do not disagree of not liking the past plotlines of the older ladies making the moves on either Sam or Dean, as yeah, it really is not funny, particularly, as you say, the not respecting of boundaries. Here, it’s not too bad, as one, Mildred is a nice enough lady, two, whilst Dean is putting up the boundary, he does have a scene or two that suggests he’s not entirely averse to the idea and only has the boundary because he knows it wouldn’t work out. And she does ultimately respect that. It does lead to the discussion of who’s the best Golden Girl. Sam being partial to Sophia, same as me, leading me to say to Sam, “Good man, Sam, good man!” That’s nice to hear that you’re a Blanche gal yourself. Really, there’s a case for all four of them, which speaks to how good that show is. Then there is Eileen. We both quite liked her. Shoshannah Stern was great. Rather sweet moment where Sam makes the effort with the sign language. You say you took that. I never did myself though I know the alphabet, plus a few words and phrases. I also know a few people who are fluent. Shame she had her HAL9000 lip read at a very inopportune time, though it got cleared up quick. You feel for her when the show confirms she is the baby in the opening scene. Everyone did the work taking that Banshee down. I love how Eileen already knows she’s been in the revenge business for so long that she kind of is unsure what to do now that it’s over. Seems like she’s off to keep hunting, and I like Sam having his farewell to her. We both want to see her again. She better not fucking die; I am NOT going through that FUCKING horseshit of what they did to Charlie again. Meantime, there is the problem of Lucifer. Nice effort on the one angel’s part. He is doing a decent job of playing Castiel whilst using him as a meat puppet. Concern is raised as he knows about Dean’s attraction to Amara. You know it’s bad when you express attraction to the Darkness, and even fucking Lucifer has a look that screams, “Oh, Jesus Christ! DEAN!!” I like how you note that Dean is in a quandary in that he does not entirely know what he’s feeling or going through. Contrast to Sam being relatable in opening up that he’s not ok, and when asked if he wants to talk about it, says not really, no, at least not at this time. I hear you what you said. When you go through shit, you prefer to sort it out yourself before bothering anybody else. That way, you’re the only one who suffers. Whilst not quite that here, it is in a similar feeling. Nice to see the boys be honest. Mildly critical of them having an “It’s probably nothing” thing at spots. To be fair, they come up with good reasons for them to express that, such as when Dean says Castiel seemed off, Sam does correctly note that he always seems off, which Dean nods to. Similarly, Sam accepts Dean’s logic on the Banshee as sound. On paper, both responses are valid, I’m just noting that the boys have been through and seen too much to be that dismissive. I would have liked it better if they had a “Yeah, I suppose. Even so...” type of response. Or at least make it more clear that they are having such a response. A great reaction, Jess, thank you.
