Been looking forward to this. My favourite episode so far and my favourite reactor!

Regarding the thanks you offered to the fandom. I could think of probably dozens of people who are far more ardent and passionate members of the fandom than I. But you say that they were most gracious and kind to you with the break, then it is lovely to hear that it meant a lot to you, Jess. I do know waiting for the reactions whilst you’re on break is never a problem. You enjoy your breaks. I’m a patient man, that’s what being brought up a Cubs fan will do to a man. Now to the episode. In a surprise twist, though the tears came back, I must say that your makeup held up better than it did during the episode which confirmed the Somehow, Vander Returned business. KNEW that you would so CHERISH this episode. The SECOND I finished it, the first thought was of you, and how much you would as I say, CHERISH it. This reaction proving that was lovely. Ekko is much stronger than I would have been. Then again, the animation does so well in that though he is figuring out a way to get home, his senses being assaulted by the proverbial and literal ghosts of his past is taking a toll. Shared thing of not blaming Ekko for trying to keep Jinx at arm’s length. You feel for Jinx in this universe. Jinx is going through depression in this universe. Not overtly so, but she’s going through it. Very subtle and not all that noticeable if you don’t know what to look for. The one big takeaway: So, this whole mess could have been avoided if Vi had just died in the first episode of this show? ...That’s a dark twist on things. (That’s a fucking joke by the way. It’s a joke. I’m not being serious about that.) I will say that the show proves how dead inside I am, as I wasn’t even the tiniest bit sad about Vi being dead in this universe. Had zero response. Made me say, “Wow. Really? Nothing? Not even the tiniest prick of the heart? ...Jesus, how cold and heartless am I? ...Fuck.” I know the holiday season exacerbates the being dead inside, and even then, it’s a shock. Now seeing you have the emotional response to Vi being dead, great, now I’m the asshole shitheel. You think I’d be used to it by now. Heimerdinger was perfectly content to just live his best Bob Dylan life in this alternate reality. Quite adored your reaction to Heimerdinger singing his little Dylan sounding tune. Leads to unintentionally humorous dissonance as we clap along to the beauty of that, then the show goes, “Meanwhile, Jayce.” and drops us into that hauntingly desolate, yet colorful and vibrant, as you put it, nightmare. A recurring pattern throughout the episode. Quickly talking about Jayce. Not much to say or add, barring his broken leg made me scream. You spoke well of the analogy how the Arcane makes people like Jayce pathetically predictable; like a moth to a flame. Ekko being your number one guy in this show really shines through here. God, does it get you seeing Vander and Silco together. And even in this idyllic world, Ekko needs to get back and help his people, knew you’d greatly appreciate that. First, he does get some healing in, namely that bit with Benzo. That part got me the worst. They say that people are fond of saying, in moments of sorrow and loss, that “no one’s ever really gone.” It seems to bring them solace and I respect that. Be nice to feel it sometime. Me, I gather Ekko’s carried the weight of losing the people he’s lost and was denied goodbyes. As they say, “Five minutes would have been enough.” and he proves that with his quick words to Benzo which got both of us bad. Bit worse in my case; you handled that one better than I did. Love Heimerdinger letting Ekko have his party. He did better with that than I would. I don’t know any of the music or artists in this show. I’m already shit at dancing. Can you imagine how dreadful I’d do at the party? Leading us to Ekko and Heimerdinger’s success, albeit after Ekko saw the one traumatizing image, loved the scream you let out on that one. Lord, did it hurt seeing how Heimerdinger’s sacrifice blindsided you. We both loved his sentiment on really living in his time with Ekko I was under the impression that Heimerdinger was popular with the fandom in this show. Or at least he’s not a character people don’t like. I didn’t find him underrated, but I have been wrong before. Nonetheless, lovely to hear you give him love. One down, two to go. You might just wish to throw in the towel, makeup-wise, but I leave that to you. Thank you for this beautiful reaction, Jess.

Welcome back, Jess! Glad to hear Rocco's doing well. Can't wait for you to meet the Skeleton Crew.

When I saw Jayce in the cave writing on the wall, the first thing I thought was, "oh he went full Fred Burkle". I've watched so many Arcane reactions and you're the first one to make that reference. That's why I love your reactions!

Josef Schiltz

It's so lovely to see you back after your break, Jess and I'm so glad that your pal Rocco is getting better.

Apologies for taking this long to comment, I’ve been having an exceptionally busy time and was barely able to squeeze Skeleton Crew in there. For as much as this show has had a disappointing lack of Ekko, it turns out when he does get focus, it’s well worth the wait. I loved every bit of this alternate world, and it was a big relief to see it still exists at the end. I’ve seen a few jokes about how Vi is seemingly keeping the world from being perfect just by being alive, but it was pretty clear to me from the start that the point is Jayce’s experiments killing a teenage girl wrecked the potential of hextech beyond recovery. They also clearly wanted to make the most of Heimerdinger in their last ride with him, and it’s especially impressive how his prior characterization makes it fully believable that Ekko would make way more progress in a day than he managed in three plus years, just because he wanted it more. Ella gets a chance to show a whole different side of Powder, sounding much more like Jackie Taylor, which just makes me more eager for that show coming back. From what I understand, this four second jump is Ekko’s major skill in the games, and it’s much to the show’s credit that it feels like a totally natural story progression, rather than just a Rick Dalton moment for the fans. I wouldn’t mind if whatever future shows this franchise has find their way back here, maybe going more into what’s happening with Caitlin, Jayce, and Viktor.

My uncle is a Jets fan, and the rest of the family keeps torturing him about it. My latest line: “Every time the Jets lose, an angel gets its wings.” Once again in this season, I have no idea if something was supposed to be funny, but I still laughed quite a bit at Ekko and Heimerdinger both getting to hang out in a perfect world, while Jayce is stuck shouting “I slept too long!” Also not ideal timing coming back to this episode as I’ve just barely cleared up a serious fingertip infection that caused some gnarly colors, so everything with Jayce’s leg was even more painful.

Thomas Corp

I confess that I’m fairly neutral on the Jets. Past few seasons, I really, I have nothing against the Jets, I just, want everybody to beat the SHIT out of their current chief quarterback. Clarence would approve of that angels line. There is some dark comedy of the contrast of Ekko and Heimerdinger being in the idyllic world, contrasting Jayce stuck with the alternate ending of Army of Darkness. Whilst I’ve not gone through a fingertip infection, I hear you on the timing. By that I mean I had a gout attack/flare up in May. Could barely move as it went at my foot something fierce. Shortly afterwards, we rewatch the episode of Bad Batch in which Tech’s leg got busted up, and he’s still getting up to fight and help, and I felt that so much more than when I first saw it.

This time of year, it feels like everyone’s busier than normal, though your one comment mentions the fingertip infection. The delay in your comments, I was assuming either general holiday business or just maybe you were waiting for all the reactions to act three to be up. They gave Ekko a hell of a day in the spotlight. It is a nice touch that the world he ends up in still exists following his departure. More, the variant of Ekko in that world does not die, which is nice. Yeah, no, I got the implication of Jayce’s experiments having killed Vi, Jayce being so torn apart by guilt that he never pursues any hextech inventions from then on is the real point of divergence. The way that information was presented just came across in not the best way, hence the “Vi is seemingly keeping the world from being perfect just by being alive” jokes, which I know I shouldn’t laugh at them, yet they’ve made me cackle something fierce. Heimerdinger gets a grand final hour; good notes on the characterization. Ella does get to showcase her impressive range. You said Jackie Taylor, I queried, “...Yellowjackets or Sweetpea?” hit Google, and said, “Ah. The former, gotcha.” First I’m hearing about the four second thing being part of the games. I thought it was just a narrative way to keep the device from being TOO too powerful, similar to how Disney’s Aladdin is chiefly responsible for the rule of three wishes, and ix-nay on the wishing for more wishes. That’s it, three. Uno, dos, tres. No substitutions, exchanges or refunds. Or as a way to preemptively shut fans up as to why Ekko wouldn’t get more ambitious with it to say try to save Vander years ago. Sort of like how in the book Order of the Phoenix when there’s the specific mention of during the climactic sequence, a stray spell striking the case of time-turners which then are destroyed, repaired, then destroyed again, which continues on repeat, rendering them functionally useless. A passage put in precisely for the purpose of cutting fans off from asking why the time-turners aren’t used to go back in time to save, Sirius, Dumbledore, Dobby, etc. The four second thing, as it’s shown here, they gave it a good build-up. Hell of a scream it gave Jess when Heimerdinger went Scanners, presumably.

Part of it was also being very preoccupied with the One Hundred Years of Solitude miniseries. One of my absolute favorite books, considered totally unadaptable for decades, and suddenly we have this completely perfect one. I’d been figuring the new Dunes had filled up my lifetime quota for that.
