A solid episode to start back with. Always a pleasure to see Jody again. Kim is awesome. Particularly as she and Crowley are the last two standing of my top five favorites of the show. Praise indeed that you say she might very well be second to Bobby for being your favorite. Giving it some thought, she’d be about tied with Rufus for third behind Bobby and Charlie for me. Rather love how she knows the score as soon as she sees the Impala, and has a rather affectionate, “So, how do you two plan to fuck up my week?” Then it becomes known Claire called them. And I’m with you on liking how Claire, though her spirit’s in the right place, needs to take it down a bit. Sam did well with his very thoughtful talk, and Dean delivered with the big brother talk in telling Claire that she should show a bit more appreciation for all that Jody’s done. Love that you loved both talks, Jess. Similarly, Alex, like you said is still contending with the lingering heaviness of her past. I felt the boys’ discomfort when Jody enlisted them as back-up on giving Alex the talk. I was them, I’d try to book it too, though Jody made them sit. She looks to them for help, I’d say, “Uh... Yeah, I don’t think I can help here, Jody.” When she did it again, I’d say, “Jody, I’m telling you, I really don’t think I can add or offer anything of conducive value to these proceedings. I don’t have any experience to draw from.” The flipside is Sam and Dean, more Dean, have the opposite problem, experience-wise, though it cracks me up how they both embarrassingly and silently acknowledge that they’re not ones to give helpful advice in that area. Like that they’re self-aware about that. You can tell both young ladies are bristling some with living under the same roof as a cop, not to mention the sheriff. If they think that’s bad, they should try having a parent who’s a teacher; you can’t get away with jackshit. Believe me. The vampire business was interesting of Alex’s past sins come back to haunt her. The acting on our heroes when the revelations are laid bare, good work all around. Gets you when Alex offers herself to save Claire. Jody, you knew she’d be safe as I now know that safety-net. Namely that Kim is playing Jody tells us that she won’t die, or at least she won’t suffer an horrific and appallingly disgusting and insulting manner like the one the writers subjected Charlie too. Still, second the motion that we don’t fuck with Jody. Like how the case does a quiet reminder of showing how the boys are very good at what they do, in that as soon as the head vampire is on their radar, they solved shit quick. Likewise, Jody shows her skill as she clocks the guy being fishy quick as well. They all did good taking them down. Figured you’d have a response to the younger vampire saying he should have had his way with Alex. Me, I would have said in response, “...Hold him down. We’re cutting his balls off before we lop his head off.” A very lovely ending that warms the heart to see how it got you. One other note of interest, the food commentary. First, that double-donut and bacon monstrosity. Concerning healthy eating, I’m not one to talk, and even then, that thing just sounds like hell. How is it even remotely palatable? I swear to God that Dean outdoes my brother in eating anything. Amusing to hear you say that you’ve probably eaten worse. Then there’s that scene of the boys having dinner with Jody, Alex, and Claire. And just how they thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. That’s the part that got me emotional to the point of crying some as you can just tell that the boys have not had a proper dinner in such a long time. The feeling is mutual as it’s been some time for me as well. I got sadder at the end as I hope that the boys stayed for breakfast. That would be the better treat: having a proper breakfast. I haven’t one myself since... You know, I honestly can’t remember when the last time was. But it’s like you said, the episode dealt with some heaviness, albeit that particular heaviness is done with a more subtle touch. Got me pretty good though, and now your reaction to the episode has gotten me pretty good. Much appreciated. Thanks, Jess.
