I completely agree! This episode is messy and harsh and emotional, in the best possible way, it is so brilliantly written! The way these three women are all shown to be vulnerable in a way that enhances how strong they are, instead of taking anything away from that strength is super refreshing. Claire and Alex both are allowed to not only show their trauma and their insecurities, but also embrace it and grow from it without either story eclipsing the other is just incredible writing and the actors just absolutely nail it. Both arcs compliment each other beautifully, showing that as different as the girls may be personality wise, they are so much more similar than they think! You also gotta love Jody being a total mama bear. She is that perfect blend of tough love and emotional comfort for not only Claire and Alex, but also Sam and Dean. And I love that this episode gives Sam and Dean some much needed home comfort. The fact that the boys get so excited over a simple home-cooked chicken dinner just shows how starved they are for normalcy and I love that moment where Jody grabs Sam and tells him to sit and stay, because she wants him to know he is a part of the family. And every interaction Jody has with each of them, Sam, Dean, Alex, and Claire, it is motherly, but unique to each person. She doesn't treat them all the same because they aren't, and she adjusts to whoever she is talking to. Also, the conversation between Claire and Sam is so important, especially with Sam's arc this season. After his visions and his meeting with Lucifer, he absolutely could just melt into hunting and disappear and avoid dealing with anything, but he knows he has to face his trauma and deal with it head on. He can use hunting to cope but he can't bury himself under it, and the fact that not only does he know that, but he uses it to try and help Claire see the same thing, to help pull her through the dark spot she is in just speaks to his massive inner strength. Overall, it is such a heartwarming episode to see this wayward family pull together to help save each other- emotionally and physically

Yeah, a real good emotional time with Jody, Alex, and Claire, all of it delved into so well. Jody is one of the best in this show; such a sweetheart that if you mess with those she loves, you got trouble. That dinner scene got me emotional something fierce seeing Sam and Dean enjoy the proper dinner. I hope they stayed for breakfast before leaving as I doubt that they’ve had a proper breakfast since God knows how long. Does an effective showcase of, like you said, how starved for normalcy the boys are.
