Start with the first order of business: the graciousness of the show that it did not leave you in a puddle of tears following this penultimate hour. Ah, victory, as you say. Yes, a lot of the penultimate hour is the focus on the relationships, the characters, where everybody is compared to where they began. Good to see Mel get out from the thorns of the Black Rose, who by the way, I only find out later that the voice is provided by Minnie Driver, leading me to do a double take, saying, “Really!? What, THE Minnie Driver!?” You say you don’t think you can trust the Black Rose, the old saying, “Oh, good God, don’t. Never trust anyone.” Viktor was dead, but thanks to the dark science of Dr. Reveck, he’s feeling quite rejuvenated after resting from the long squawk that left him tired and shagged out. You speak well of the relationship between Viktor and Jayce, and what’s become of it. Now the two worlds will have to unite to combat the glorious evolution, particularly as it provides the final nail in the coffin for Vander, knew that would get to you some. Love your support of Sevika. Quick sidenote: how you say you wish to remain quiet for fear of missing something being the curse of being a reactor. Wanting to pay attention yet not say anything. I’m not a reactor, and it happens to me as well, so I feel you on that one. It speaks to Mel’s character how she makes the effort to get through to her mother. Unfortunately, Ambessa, with her non-denial denials shows how far gone she is, and how onboard with the glorious evolution she is. Bringing us to Jinx and Vi. I love how Caitlyn admits to self-awareness of how Ambessa used her. And how she reveals that following Isha’s death, once Vi was safe, Jinx just surrendered, and was arrested before Caitlyn could even process. Seems Caitlyn’s men believe that one good deed is not enough to redeem a lifetime of wickedness, though it seems enough to condemn. Strangely a sweet moment when Jinx tells Caitlyn that she didn’t know that Cassandra was present when she fired off the rocket, whilst simultaneously admitting that it likely wouldn’t have made jackshit, difference-wise. But for what that is worth, how she imparts that killing Cassandra wasn’t strictly speaking personal, and Caitlyn does sort of silently register it. Ends up being as I say, strangely sweet. ...Isn’t that fucked up? Ella sells Jinx being in the deepest pit of despair. Lovely to see Silco again. I was not expecting any Silco in this season, let alone the amount we got. He is my favorite character of the show, so I’m not complaining. Just surprising is all. Love how freely open his spirit is about his sins. And as Silco says, killing is a cycle. And the cycle... the cycle never changes. Vi makes the move to free Jinx, leading to a moment that got you worse than it got me: Jinx having the realization that Vi really will never give up on Jinx. That has been her whole life. Moments of seclusion where Vi crawls into a bottle of booze and pickles herself notwithstanding, her entire life has been trying to save Jinx and push her to be the best version of herself. The big sister drive and instinct. We’re both the younger of two, so it is a trait that we do not possess, but I can see how it gets you right in the heart. Tis an unwavering trait, hence why Jinx flees to take the matter out of Vi’s hand. Jinx declaring to Vi that there’s no good version of her, shit, that’s uh, that’s a familiar and far too goddamn relatable sentiment. Nice that she offers the blessing of Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship and says that Vi deserves the happiness. That trait is one that’s more relatable: being that deep in depression and despair yet encouraging others to be happy and not be as sad as you are. All the while, you fail to adhere to your own advice and encouragement. Then Caitlyn reveals that she more or less let Vi free Jinx, leading to the big damn scene, causing a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of shippers suddenly squeed in triumph. See, you got into the romance of it all. Me, I would have, were I not distracted by the scene happening in the prison cell. I said, “...You guys want to maybe put a blanket down first, or take this somewhere else before, oh, ok, we’re doing this right then and there. Fine, but just so’s you know, doing this in the cell does NOT look sanitary or hygienic is all I’m saying.” On the other hand, like you said, they won’t get another chance before the finale, so they’re allowed to let off steam as they see fit. Plus, I have zero experience with any of that; takes two to tango, I don’t have anyone to tango with. Which also means I’m in no position to talk or judge. Thus concludes the penultimate hour. You expect heartbreak and tears in this finale. Well, supposing they do just rip your heart out with the finale, and I imagine you’ve already seen it, but say you hadn’t seen it yet, supposing they do rip your heart out... Just have fun out there, Jess. Thank you for the lovely penultimate reaction to Arcane.

I was pretty worried where Jayce’s story was going during the middle episodes, so it was quite a relief to see the end of his story isn’t just “This is Dan, he’s a dick again.” Especially nice to see him get over his suspicions of Mel so quickly, following the awesome scene where you just want to shout (I realize I’ve been over-referencing this movie lately, but the chance just keeps coming up) “You can’t fight in here, this is the war room!” You fully get where both Jayce and Viktor are coming from, no small fear when one of them has the perspective of a god, and much like the introduction of the Borg, we’re left with the question of how the hell they’re going to fight an army of these things when Mel’s powers could barely handle one. But forget all that, because everyone knows what the real main attraction here is. One nice part of working in animation is that if a sex scene comes up, you don’t need to worry about what you’ll be making actors do and can just take it as far as you damn well please. Aroace here so the whole concept is totally foreign to me, but at this point I’m certainly familiar enough to be happy for the feelings it’s giving so many people to have this kind of representation, and in particular I’ve seen a lot of appreciation for Vi’s difficulty getting Cait’s pants off as something that happens all the time in real life but you hardly ever see onscreen. And boy, Vi probably didn’t think she was being quite so literal when she said the undercity would “eat you alive,” huh? And yes, I did skip over Jinx’s role here, but that’s because my thoughts are impossible to untangle from the next episode, so I’ll pick it up there.

I briefly dabbled in reacting before deciding I was no good at it, and found that just turning the subtitles on allowed me to understand the dialogue perfectly while talking over it. Now if only I could make some actual use of that ability. What really gets me about Jinx saying there’s no good version of her is everything with Isha proves it’s not true, but the way that ended makes it perfectly understandable that she can’t see it that way.

I watch with the closed captioning all the time to help keep focus, cause even without a channel of my own, I tend to do like Jess where I talk at spots that you think are quiet, and when the captioning pops up, I redirect focus. Similar thing too with what you said, you can multitask where you understand the dialogue perfectly while talking over it. Even then, there are scenes you refrain from that. Would be nice to make some actual use of that ability. Yeah, Isha refutes Jinx’s claim, but the trauma, grief, and pain from what happened leaves her mental and emotional state to deep in that black and seemingly bottomless pit that I get completely how she’s unable and perhaps unwilling to see that.

I’m remembering how you pointed out about Mel’s armor glowing during the one scene. Rather liked how they have a rather understated confirmation about that. IS there such thing as over referencing that film, or really any of Kubrick’s films? If you want an alternate line with a similar vibe, there’s the great line from In the Loop that my brother and I occasionally use, which is, “Don’t raise your voice here. This is a sacred place. Now, you may not believe it and I may not believe it, but, by God, it’s a useful hypocrisy.” They do well on the balance of the perspectives of Viktor and Jayce. And definitely they sell the fear of Viktor having become the Borg, Skynet, and Smith in the second and third Matrix films all rolled into one practically. They excellently sell the threat level when Mel struggles against the one. Animation does mean not worrying about actors and the intimacy coordinators, true. Experience-wise, I can’t offer anything. I am happy for all the people cheering about the representation. I’m not knocking or shitting on that at all. I just got distracted by the scene happening right then and there in the jail cell. Happy for those that weren’t distracted by that. Hadn’t heard any comments on the difficulty of getting the pants off. I would assume Vi was being hyperbolic, and everyone’s noting that line. The writers definitely planned that one in advance. The being unable to talk about Jinx due to the tangled feelings. That’s one reason why though noticeable, I didn’t think TOO too much about you not commenting right away. Given how some of this is hard to talk about without discussing stuff in future episodes, one does wish to be shtum until you know Jess has seen the episodes. Hence a thought I had of you were waiting for all three of act three’s reactions before getting into it. I know I make the effort to try to treat her reactions as a week-by-week thing. The somewhat recent Pyramids of Mars business made me more paranoid about it than I already was. Even when, such as each set of reactions to all three acts of season two of Arcane, where I’m already certain that Jess has seen the whole thing, I still say, “I’m not saying one goddamn word until I see Jess react to this!” One thing I will reiterate: I was not expecting as much Silco that we got in this season. Not that I’m complaining what with him being my favorite character of the show.

The one time I’ve been distracted by the setting of a sex scene was the end of Die Another Day, where they do it on top of a bunch of diamonds. And maybe this one Buffy scene where they demolish an entire house just for how stupid it was, fitting for how I always hated the pairing.
