"Do you think the Daleks have anything to do with this?", "It would be an enormous coincidence if they didn't.", Archer and the Doctor, "Resurrection of the Daleks" I was interested whether you would be watching the 4-part (the original planned format) version or the 2-part (as broadcast where they edited parts together to fit in with the Olympics time-slots) version. You can still see where the original cliffhangers were, of course. They released both versions on the special edition DVD release so I was prepared in either case. Sorry, the extended length caused you planning grief though. "I didn't quite tell you the truth. I serve the Daleks. I'm a Dalek agent.", Stien, "Resurrection of the Daleks" Nice to see Rodney Bewes, who plays "Stien", in Classic Who - and what a twist at the end of the episode! Bewes is probably best known for appearing on "The Likely Lads" sitcom. In my mind, "The Likely Lads" is has a loose similarity with another northern England sitcom: "The Liver Birds". And we can tie these together because we recently saw Polly James (a Liver Birds actor) in "The Awakening". "This place is falling to pieces.", "Huh. And you're seeing it on a good day. If you wanted to see everything spick and span, you shouldn't have asked for a transfer to a prison.", Mercer and Styles, "Resurrection of the Daleks" And nice to see Rula Lenska as Styles, the woman doctor. Fun Who Fact: Rula auditioned way, way back for the role of "Jo Grant". I know her from her voice role of "Lintilla" in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio episodes and from an episode of the "Private Schulz" mini-series (I love that mini-series). "So, they have returned to their creator. Like an errant child, they have come home once more, but this time they will not abuse me. This time, I shall take my rightful place as their Supreme Being, and under my control, the Daleks shall once more become triumphant!", Davros, "Resurrection of the Daleks" Surprising (is it?) reveal of Davros in this story - even if we did know it's a Dalek story - because it's been years and years since "Destiny of the Daleks" at the start of Season 17 (1979 to 1984). "The creatures of Earth have no stomach for judicial murder. They prefer to leave you to slowly rot and die. They call it being humane.", "Then you must be equally humane in your revenge.", Davros and Kiston, "Resurrection of the Daleks" This story is packed with famous actors. Kiston, the Davros-controlled engineer, is played by Leslie Grantham in an early TV role. He went on to have a huge role in the EastEnders soap (500+ episodes) - Fun Who Fact #2: His EastEnders character was married to a character played by Anita Dobson who is in modern New Who playing Mrs Flood. But to tie Grantham back to Who, he was pen-pals with Louise Jameson (Leela) who encouraged him to become an actor and now he is in Who. "What is that smell?", Osborn, "Resurrection of the Daleks" That was a NASTY, shocking death! That gas weapon is really horrible - actually, all gas weapons are horrible. Oh, and we should note that Brian Miller (married to Elisabeth Sladen) voices some Daleks - he was recently in the memorable "Snakedance" story (but some viewers may have been distracted by other things). "I cannot see. My vision is impaired. I cannot see. Warning. Warning.", Dalek, "Resurrection of the Daleks" Ah, we love these classic lines. And, of course, we all remember the lovely Wilf hitting the Dalek eye-stalk with a paint-ball in "The Stolen Earth" - only for the Dalek to report "My vision is not impaired."

A few big (or at least well known) names in this one: Rodney Bewes, one half of The Likely Lads Chloe Ashcroft, niece of Dame Peggy Ashcroft and as her IMDb page describes 'The surrogate "Mum" or "Big Sister" for an entire generation of 1970s TV viewers in Britain, thanks to her appearances on Play School (1964) (119 episodes) and Play Away (1971) (29 episodes).' Maurice Colbourne of Howard's Way fame And of course Dirty Den himself, Leslie Grantham, in his first TV role after being encouraged to become an actor by none other than Louise Jameson, whom he befriended during the ten years he served in prison.

Rula Lenska was fabulous as the evil Abbess, Morgwyn of Ravenscar, in the sword-and-sorcery fantasy Robin of Sherwood and the Hounds of Lucifer... her greatest role IMO....

My favourite vision-impaired bit is in the Tom Baker story, Destiny of the Daleks. when the Doctor chucks his hat over the Dalek's eyestalk and pins a bomb on it!: DAVROS: Behind you. DALEK: Visual circuit is impaired. DAVROS: To your right. To your left. DALEK: Malfunction. DAVROS: To your right. This way! DALEK: Malfunction. (The Doctor ducks behind a computer desk as the Dalek starts shooting at random.) DAVROS: Not me, you fool! DALEK: Vision impaired! Vision impaired! Malfunction! Loss of visual control. Malfunction! Malfunction!
