I would like to make a little statement regarding EARLY Early Access Edits and Full reactions (specifically in regards to my Classic Who lovelies) If it is still the Friday a certain reaction should be uploaded, the reaction is not late and I will notify you if for some reason it will not be up on that Friday.

Particularly with Classic Who, there is a copyright battle every single week with the BBC. Some videos take longer than others to get passed these copyright issues. And sometimes in the middle of said copyright battle, I need to go record. I know you are excited to see these reactions and I am excited to share them but please give me a little grace and hold off on sending me messages asking where these reactions are when it is in fact.....still Friday. And please (this is not directed at the majority of you) refrain from sending nasty comments my way because something is not uploaded the moment you would like it to be. It's beyond frustrating to go through a continuous copyright battle week after week and spend extra hours re-uploading edits to then check my messages to see insults hurled at me.

Those of you who sent messages today asking where the reaction is (without insulting me), please do not feel bad. I'm sure most people don't know the constant battle I go through behind the scenes with Classic Who. Just in the future, wait until Saturday to pester me. Thank you. I hope you all enjoy!

People, chill out a bit

Figured there was at minimum, a copyright struggle given I got home from work, and only the Resurrection of the Daleks reaction was uploaded, and the time stamp on the upload was somewhat later than usual. You’ve mentioned in the past things being particularly difficult with Classic Who, copyright-wise, so I was just hoping that it was simply a case of that, and not something more serious. Though like you say, if something was more serious, you’d say something. Rather strangely fitting there’s bad luck today on Friday the 13th. Sorry to hear you had a bit of a bad time of things. Hope otherwise, everything’s going well for you, Jess.

Like I said, I got home from work, saw only the one reaction was uploaded, and when seeing the time stamp, noted, “That’s a bit later than usual. Is the BBC in a mood this week? Shit, that’s rotten for Jess.” It’s happened before, Jess has mentioned that, so I know the delays happen sometimes. No problem.

I was just catching up rewatching "Space Babies" (it was at an exciting bit, Eric was just being attacked), but I know where my Classic Who priorities lie! Dropping "Space Babies" for now - not literally, of course. Thanks for your efforts to get this out.

Peter Grimwade, who’d been with the show since Spearhead from Space, was so furious at the experience of writing this story that he permanently cut ties with the show. He was given a staggering list of elements to incorporate into Peri’s introduction that conflicted with how he wanted to handle it, and the professor being cast with a young actor clashed horribly with his writing the character as elderly (I guess we can count ourselves lucky it wasn’t Clayton Rohner).

I didn't insult you as you know Jess but I deeply regret asking where the reaction was - even though you have said it is fine. I'm just so excited as you are approaching my favourite ever era!! x

Well, we can’t always get lucky with Ian McDiarmid believably playing half a century older than he was. Or I saw one meme recently pointing out how Dick Smith did such a good job with the makeup on The Exorcist seeing as fifty years after the film came out, Max Von Sydow looked exactly like Father Lankester. Supposing they had cast Clayton Rohner as the professor, that would be very short a season for the character, I’d wager.

"Timanov says Logar is benevolent. Perhaps he's waiting with a cool drink and new shoes.", Amyand, "Planet of Fire" We've been here before! And by "we", I mean your faithful New Who viewers, and by "here", I mean Lanzarote. The cast and crew of "Planet of Fire" got a location trip to Lanzarote to film this story (representing both the outdoor scenes on Earth and the outdoor scenes on Sarn) - as did the New Who production team when Lanzarote was used to film the lunar surface scenes in "Kill the Moon". "Yes, but it's still a wise precaution to send the occasional free-thinker to the flames. Encourages faith in our traditions.", Timanov, "Planet of Fire" Timanov has some nice lines in this story - my favourite is next week. Peter Wyngarde has a long IMDB list of credits but, honestly, the only highlight for me was that he was Number 2 in one of "The Prisoner" stories. "So what? I'm Perpugilliam Brown and I can shout just as loud as you can.", Peri, "Planet of Fire" Peri is played by Nicola Bryant. Her character is American - probably as an attempt to appeal to the (then) new American audience - but Nicola (obviously) , er ... isn't. And "Perpugilliam" - really? What was JNT thinking? "Earthlings!", Turlough, "Planet of Fire" The famous swimming scene! On "The Five Doctors" commentary track with David Tennant, Phil Collinson, and Helen Raynor, they went off-topic and started talking about Peri and Turlough in this very scene. I will merely mention that the young David and the young Phil reported they had been concentrating on quite different characters during this sequence. But the famous fun-fact from this scene, however, is that Nicola was "saved" from drowning by a German tourist who didn't realise she was just acting. (Actually, it was a German naturist and he later ruined a take by being visibly naked in the background of a shot). "You're not taking the TARDIS anywhere, and you're not listening to any more messages from Trion. You're finished, Kamelion!", Turlough, "Planet of Fire" We get Kamelion back for the first time since "The King's Demons". The prop never worked well. There was a scene filmed for "The Awakening" but it was edited out. And it's almost as if no one ever remembers he was on board all this time. "No one can order a Chosen One.", "Except another Chosen One. Now please, take me to where you were found.", Malkon and Turlough, "Planet of Fire" Oh, a Turlough backstory! We've all been waiting a while for this. "Have I seen everything today. A transgalactic payphone, a stepfather who turns into a robot, and a robot who turns into a gangster.", Peri, "Planet of Fire" This story is directed by Fiona Cumming (Castrovalva / Snakedance / Enlightenment - and I like all those stories). It was Fiona who suggested Lanzarote as a location because when had been there on holiday. It's Fiona's last Who. Well, her last Who as director anyway. "I have succeeded. Contact has been made.", Howard(Kamelion), "Planet of Fire" Contact has been made? Oh, no!

I also like Turlough. I would go so far as to say we need someone like him in modern Who. We've had companions who talk back and call out the Doctor on his BS, but I feel like a companion who has their own agenda and you're never quite sure if you should trust them is a nice change. Not that I think Turlough is untrust-worthy, he's just got his own stuff going on and he's not necessarily going to blindly follow the Doctor. As you said, in this story he could stand to let the Doctor in on things a bit more. I also like Peri though I struggle with the accent.

Who are these unbelievers giving you a hard time for no good reason? Send them to the fire! 😉 Really appreciate your efforts to get these reactions out. 🙂

It's a shame the BBC don't just give you a free pass with any potential Doctor Who copyright issues. They clearly enjoy your Doctor Who reactions based on their past interactions with your channel and your appearances in DW Magazine. I can also imagine there are quite a few people who have started watching Doctor Who over the years after seeing your reactions. If it were up to me, I'd give your channel immunity from all Doctor Who related copyright claims.

Thomas Corp

I second the motion of Jess and her channel being granted the immunity from the Doctor Who related copyright claims.
