You can now watch the Earthshock Tales of the TARDIS without spoilers.

Although Peter himself wasn't really convinced, when he was asked by JNT to play The Doctor, his performance was beautiful. William Hartnell's wife, Heather, said that Peter reminded her of Bill as a young man. The Caves Of Androzani really is peak Doctor Who viewing and the best of Peter in the role. My own personal favourite though, has to be The Visitation and that is just because I like the period and Tegan's observation of the forest within which they landed - supposedly having aimed for Heathrow Airport - that they had ". . certainly let the grass grow since I was there!"

Darren Seal

Peter Davison is seriously underrated at times - his performance his is stellar

Hamish Steele

I'm so sorry sorry 💙🩵

The fifth Doctor and his era get overlooked and underrated by a lot of fans, especially because he followed the fourth Doctor. For most people he, alongside David Tennant's tenth Doctor (a Doctor and era you sadly and controversially don't seem to care much about....) defines the role and show, so it's quite nice and interesting to see you love him and his era so much.

Ian Smith

Is it malicious that I've been eagerly counting the hours in order to see Jess being upset..? Yeah,ok; it is. A great era, without a doubt. It tends to be overlooked, simply because he wasn't Tom Baker; but, for me, it's quality over quantity. Three excellent and underrated seasons.

David Cole

There was once a comedy panel show in the UK called It's Only TV But I Like It, on which Peter Davison was a guest. The host jokingly introduced him - much to PD's amusement - as "everyone's third-favourite Doctor Who!"

David Cole

I had a feeling this one would blindside you as it's not at the end of a season. When you said, "First Tegan, now Turlough; what next? I can't take much more!", I thought of that Michael Scott awkward grimace GIF. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the first classic regen to get you as emotional as a modern one?

Azmat Mahmood

Just got to the end of your post story discussion and I found your comment about you loving the fifth and eleventh Doctors more than their predecessors, both of whom are the two most popular Doctors, quite amusing. At least you're self aware! And yeah, it is interesting and makes your reactions unique and fun to watch. Now, considering the fact that the tenth Doctor is my favourite, do I wish you liked him more? Absolutely, but I've been ragging on you about that for years and I've just accepted it now!😅

She's been emotional at all the regenerations in classic Who so far iirc, but I would say her reaction to the third Doctor's was about on par to this because it also caught her really off guard. She knew when both one and two would regenerate and because his era had been going for so long, she had mentally prepared herself that she could lose four at any time.

I’m just with her on finding it amusing how her favorites of the respective eras follow the “best” Doctor of the respective eras. In terms of who my Doctor is, I’m a Twelve man myself. Seeing her reactions to Eleven, I knew that Twelve was never overtaking Eleven for being her favorite. I was just going in with the hope that she’d at least like Twelve. And he ends up as her choice for very close second, which made me say, “I’ll take it.” To your point too, the fact that Jess and her favorite Doctors is contrary to popular opinion does make her reactions that much more unique and special.

James Fish

Thank you for a wonderful reaction and summary Jess. I felt as though I held my breath for you throughout these final two parts in knowing what was coming and feeling that you wasn't ready, also because of how much you personally loved 5 and this era. The beauty of you watching Classic Who so many years after it was originally broadcast, I feel, is that you're not necessarily swept along by the majority views of the fans and you can very much pick and choose your own treasures and personal favourites from this series without being swayed by what others feel. I will say it that I think there's a lot of hard baked bias from us oldschool fans & I'm just as much a victim of this as I am a perpetrator. This era did have some absolute gems which I didn't fully appreciate at the time as I was so sad about losing 4 and for a long time I felt that when he went, he took some of the magic away. However, I have since come to see the greatness of the other eras and in particular, this story, which I explained in your last reaction. And so, as we come to the close of another major chapter of this amazing series, it only remains for me to say 'see you next time!'

After the 7th Doctor, will you do a rewatch of the 8th Doctor TV movie?

The other thing to note about Peter Davison's portrayal is that he wanted it to harken back to the vulnerability of Patrick Troughton's Doctor. A vulnerability which he felt had been mislaid with Tom's version. Maybe, in some way, Jess has picked up on that in his era and was touched by it. As a side note to the final scene, the phial used for the 'bat's milk' had been thoroughly cleaned before being used in the scene and Nicola said that the milk tasted distinctly of the detergent they had used as if they hadn't rinsed the phial properly. Blah!

"Change my dear, and not a moment too soon..." "NO." Says it all. <3

Josef Schiltz

Jess was narked off at Pat's Doctor being dispensed with by the Time Lords the way he was and she was really quite upset when Jon left. Not quite so visibly with Tom, I don't think. Peter really took Jess by surprise and she had got really rather attached to his performance.

Josef Schiltz

Sixth Doctor: "No? . . . NO?? Well! That's some kind of a welcome I must say!"

Thomas Corp

Yeah, well, that’s somewhat part and parcel of the types of greetings that each new Doctor can receive. You get so used to one, you don’t want some new guy and/or gal to come in. I think I saw the guys on Blind Wave on youtube, when Ten regenerated into Eleven, the one guy said, “I don’t like him.” Then the same guy got really into Eleven, and upon first seeing Twelve, threw his hat down, and yelled, “I HATE HIM!” and it’s instantly pointed out by the others that he expressed the near identical sentiment one regeneration prior. It’s a continuous cycle of Doctor Who. I admit that I am curious how Jess is going to respond to Six. Should be interesting.

Josef Schiltz

Just wondering if either of you have seen the Dave Gibbons illustrated strips of Five? Specifically 'Stars Fell On Stockbridge'? Dave took a little to get his likeness but, after he had more stock photos supplied him, he really got him right. I was a bit saddened after Steve Parkhouse took over - Sorry, Steve! In the end I suppose, it's down to personal taste and there was a certain elegance to Dave's work that I really took to. Arthur Ranson - who had previously worked on Sapphire And Steel in Look-in took over to work on Colin's Doctor and did some fine work drawing Nicola, Colin and added a companion, a shape changer who's preferred shape was a penguin called Frobisher.

Thomas Corp

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing those, no. They do sound interesting.

Josef Schiltz

It's part of The Tides Of Time series, Volume 5. Published by Panani in 2017, paperback/softcover. Collected reprints of strips that appeared in Doctor Who Monthly.

or Dimensions in Time ;) (Only when classic who has been completed)

Josef Schiltz

I suspect by now she has already seen him in action. It will be interesting to see the result!

James Morgan Belcher

I have to say, I’ve always felt a bit sorry for Peter because he was in two regeneration stories and didn’t get first credit in either of them, including his own!

BF Jonny

NO!! the best reaction to this regeneration. As a kid I felt exactly the same when it happened.
