Colin gave his all in his time as the doctor but was treated like shit, didn't like the costume he got, his first season was postponed for a long time and was basically fired over the phone I believe and was made the scape goat as to why tv ratings at the time weren't doing so well

As startling as the strangling is, what got me worked up watching this was that the Doctor's response is "No, I couldn't have done that. I'm not violent. You do seem scared of me though. Weird. I'll atone by being a hermit and making sure you're stuck with me. Feel safe now?"

They were thinking back to how the first Doctor was abrasive and distrustful of his "alien" (to him) companions. In the third story, set entirely in the TARDIS, he even drugged Ian and Barbara and was, in his own turn, seemingly about to be strangled by Ian in the cliffhanger!

Colin Baker is such a great actor, but he was never served well by John Nathan Turner's vision of the show. It is a shame you don't get to react to the Big FInish audios, I think you would adore Evelyn Smythe.

I absolutely love this serial and era. It's such a tonal whiplash and makes episodes so much more entertaining than had they had him asleep
