I love that you adore Rowena so much, she is such an amazing character. Supernatural really does well at having unabashedly evil, ruthless characters that are completely selfish and utter villains, while keeping them so entertaining and dynamic that you don't have to root for them, to enjoy watching their arcs and their stories and how they interact with the boys. Rowena, Ruby, Crowley, even Lucifer. You can hate what the character is doing, and want them to fail, but the writers and the actors do a phenomenal job of keeping them engaging and attention grabbing. Speaking of the writers, I love the parallels we are getting between Cas and Sam this season, that we really especially got to see this episode. The whole scene in Cas' mind, where Crowley goes in to try to get him to expel Lucifer is a great call back to when Crowley did the same thing with Sam and Gadreel. Both Sam and Cas were hiding out in the bunker (albeit less willingly for Sam), and both were/are suffering from inferiority complexes that make them feel like they have to do something drastic and extreme to prove themselves in some kind of way. For Cas it is feeling of use compared to legendary heroes like Sam and Dean, whereas for Sam it was proving that he could be good, he could do something right instead of just letting Dean down, but I do really love that Sam recognized Cas' choice and respected it. Even fought for it, against Dean, because Sam of all people knows what it is like to have his choice stolen. He has had his consent ripped away, or trampled over, or just flat out ignored so often, that when he sees that happening to Cas it isn't even a thought for Sam to jump in and try to defend Cas. To honor whatever Cas wants to do, to respect and trust that Cas can make the right decision, or at least what he feels is right, even if Sam doesn't like it. And the strength it has to take Sam especially in this scenario to do that, to respect this particular choice is unreal. Lucifer is literally Sam's worse nightmare. Not only was he one of the ones who walked all over Sam's autonomy like it was nothing, but he inflicted horrific damage onto Sam, and torments and tortures him whenever he has a chance, manipulating and blackmailing and abusing Sam just for his own pleasure. And Sam, being the most cursed person on the planet, keeps having to work with the people who hurt him (Lucifer, for obvious reasons, Rowena who sold him out to Lucifer, Crowley who has killed his friends and manipulated and controlled him, especially back in season 6) for the greater good, to save the world, even if what they did to him is PTSS inducing levels of traumatizing. So for Sam to put aside his own terror and pain and to sacrifice his own sense of safety or security to make sure that his friend's wishes are respected, and guarded by someone, is heartbreaking, but also just speaks volumes about Sam's integrity, but also loyalty and love to Cas. And while we did get to see a more visceral form of Sam's badassery here, with how lightning quick he was on that exorcism, and his practised, calm dealing with Rowena and Crowley, I think the quiet sacrifice, the subtle courage Sam is displaying deserves to be recognized here to. All season so far actually, Sam has been the foundation of Team Free Will, putting in the work and just never stopping in trying to do the right thing, at whatever cost to himself, while also holding Dean and Cas together and stepping up for both of them when they need it. And yes, this episode is primarily a Cas episode, with the big set up as you said, bringing all of our major players together and setting the stage for the rest of the season, but under the headlines of Cas and Lucifer, Dean and Amara, Rowena and Crowley, I really think Sam's silent strength and sacrifice, while often overlooked, is the glue that is holding our team here together, and he is who is keeping them all not only focused on the real goal of defeating Amara, but also moving towards it. And circling that back to my point about the parallels of Cas and Sam, I think Cas is doing what he is, saying yes to Lucifer and letting him take this shot at Amara, because he is following Sam's lead, doing what he has to for the sake of the world even if it costs him his own life, which is exactly why Sam said yes to Lucifer the first time as well.

I love all your reactions, but I shouldn't be seeing this one yet. I'm on the "Full Reactions" tier, not the "Early, early access" tier. Someone goofed!
