If you recall swan song (season 5 finale), at the end before they show Sam returning, chuck is finishing his book and he says “nothing ever really ends, does it?” And disappears. It was implied all the way back then that he was god.

To me, this has always been one of the most beautiful episodes of Supernatural. The writing, the performance (especially from Curtis and Rob), the theme... it is just gorgeous. Dark, sad, heavy, but with a sense of lightness that just, to me, has an ethereal, celestial feel to it. It isn't the most flashy episode, or maybe even the heaviest hitting (compared to Sacrifice, or Swan Song for example), but it is quietly, solemnly, beautiful and I adore it more and more every time I watch, specifically the scene with Rob singing and Dean kneeling beside Sam, holding and comforting him. Just *chef's kiss* perfection. Also, how the hell did they make me like Metatron in this?! (JK, it was the dog lol. The dog helped)

Also, as for Chuck being God, everyone on set/in the writers room knew Chuck was God in season 5. Kripke explained that Chuck was always going to be God. The only one who didn't know, ironically, was Rob lol. They were getting ready to film this episode and someone asked him how he liked being God and he asked them what they were talking about, so they had to explain it to him

Hateful character though Metatron has been, I kept living for Curtis; my brother and I are big fans of his. He seriously needs more appreciation as he was tremendous in this episode. That big speech especially being a high point. He was sensational. I’m a cat person myself, but yeah, that small scene with the dog further helped in getting us to like him. That scene with the boys when Sam is infected, yeah, the brotherly love and energy was strong with that one. Amusing to hear about the knowledge of intending that the part of God would be played by the Chuck of it all was not something that Rob got told about until filming. I get the secrecy, and there are some shows where not telling the actors helps sometimes. Good that they did make sure the twist was known before they filmed as this is one you make sure that people involved know. Sort of like the big Darth Vader twist how they only told Mark Hamill right before they filmed the big scene, and likewise told James Earl Jones, who had to say the line, and he thought that Vader was lying. Sort of curious as to what the look on Rob’s face was like when they dropped the divine bombshell on him.

wel the funny thing is they didnt intend for Rob not to know he was God! Kripke i think actually said he was shocked Rob didnt realize sooner! they just all thought Rob understood, so nobody ever mentioned it until they were reading the scripts for this episode lol
