Six finally gets a good story!

Whatevs. Glad I’m firstish. This is quality Doctor Who. I saw this first in NYC at a “Creation” convention. As a pre-teen. Were any of you there?

Owen Wildish

The 6th Doctor did have some great villains in his era. Sil, perhaps (apart from one or two others) the 6th Doctor's best and most iconic foes, one that needs to make a return somehow in modern Who. He was in his time briefly kind of up there in popularity with the Daleks Cybermen, the Autons, Silurans & Sea Devils, The Master, Sontarans, Davros, and the Mara, but he's mostly forgotten about these days... I'd love to see him paired up with the Slitheen in a future story as their secret boss; that would be a fun surprise. Also, Sil & his species are like the Ferengi from Star Trek before the Ferengi came about, only more so...

The tortured man in chains is the son of the first big screen James Bond, Sean Connery, his son, Jason. Martin Jarvis was previously the Menoptera, Hilio, in The Web Planet. Hilio was the captain of the Menoptera spearhead to free Vortis from the Animus.

Thanks for a great reaction and set of after thoughts. I take this story to be one of the gems of this era. It's a morbid yet fascinating dive into a civilisation that descended as a twisted parody from its origins as a prison planet, which masquerades as some sort of functioning society. The whole notion of that which passes for Televised entertainment is crazy. Also how Governers have to submit themselves to the tender mercies of a cell disintegration device whenever they propose something which demands a compulsory vote is pretty twisted. That line of 'Congratulations - you survived the vote' was funny because it's a term commonly used in our own society but perhaps not in such a literal way! Really glad you're enjoying it. See you next time!

Yes, Owen Teale (Maldak) was in GOT. He also played the leader of the cannibalistic villagers in Torchwood 'Countrycide'
