And just think, this might be where we'd be taking a four month break if the crew hadn't realized what a bad idea that was. I have to say, the relative lack of Cecil in these last two episodes is getting to me, especially now that it's official that Walton never got to make an appearance in Cobra Kai. At least his one scene here has some promising setup of him and Mark both approaching this mystery from different sides, and I know who my money's on finding this guy first. After going through all of Steven Universe, I'm rather less forgiving than I used to be of characters ignoring obvious hints like "You haven't gotten sick again?" just to keep the audience in suspense, but I guess I can accept Mark's focus was very much occupied elsewhere. I've seen Ross Marquand in quite a few things, but I've never before seen him get this kind of big acting showcase, and I'm very impressed with how well he pulled it off (I stopped watching Walking Dead before he showed up, so maybe he did something similar there). And nice to see them sticking with the idea that every single other Mark is The Worst and this one could slip into the same thing all too easily (I look forward to how long it takes him to say this killing was an accident). But we all know what the real attraction here is, and I got excited as soon as we got the return of Paul F. Tompkins as the narrator with the worst timing ever. I never would have called Rogan and Simmons having such great chemistry, and adding Michael Dorn on top is even better. I also noticed Dorn seems to be making much more of an effort than last time to give Battle Beast his own unique voice that's not just a copy of Worf, and I even had to check that it was still him. Simmons continues to knock it out of the park as a more remorseful, downbeat Nolan, making it to where you can't wait to see him get his groove back and be willing to reply to this kind of interrogation with "If you want my comeback, you'll have to check the back of your mother's teeth." That final reveal is a real jaw dropper, and I actually think it was a mistake to go back to Mark and Eve for a pretty pointless joke rather than just let the episode end on that note. Either way, I'm definitely more raring than ever for what the season's second half is bringing.

Yet again, another roller coaster of an episode, and fantastic to watch and share with you, Jess. Continuously stunned and impressed is a fair and accurate description of response to this show, yes. Start with the Rae part of the episode. Loving the dynamic with Rex and Rae this season, and it’s nice to see you show appreciation for it as well. Loved your assessment of why Rae is really wanting to cook. Great how Rex is... Rex about it, but when Rae got more emphatic, he changes his tune and is supportive. Another small Rex moment that was great was how he knew Mark was going to fly off the handle a bit. We are on the same page of assessing Cecil, and his not being the one behind the probe. More specifically, how he is still spying on the Grayson family. Which, well, yeah, of course Cecil is still watching the Grayson family. Paranoid as he is, I’d be disappointed if he wasn’t, especially now that Mark’s soured on him. That being said, paranoid sumbitch though Cecil is, he’s not stupid. And there is NO way, like I said, that he’d monitor the family in such an overt manner. Cecil himself even points that out. You pointed it out. Love how he never denies the spying, so he cannot be accused of lying. He simply shoots straight that the one probe is not his, which gives him pause. Interesting to see again the duo from the season premiere. Share your skepticism, though at the very least, they sounded more desperate than outright malicious or malevolent. We’re both Slytherins that are as paranoid as Cecil. See if they come back. For immediate purposes, they had the Immortal gone made in this alternate future. I KNEW you’d hold love for his voice actor given the Ross of it all. Showcasing, as you said, another deep dive into one of what seems to be the overarching theme of the season: What are the rules that you have? How much can you hold onto them before the grey areas grow too dark to completely ignore? And how do you retain humanity when you’re forced to cross the lines you do not wish to cross? I would try to reassure Mark that technically he did not kill Immortal as you could just reattach his head. Still, it leaves him shaken enough to ask Eve about his morality. And because he told her about her variant, she uses that knowledge to help him through it. Leading to the night of romance that yeah, Debbie knows what’s up; one cannot pull the wool over the eyes of the Mama Boss. The credits playing early threw me, so it ends up being a good bait and switch. The big fun is Allen getting Omni-Man to embrace the pillow. Addressing that, what you said about the fans not caring for that. Maybe calling Omni-Man a pillow is not, not QUITE his tempo. But such an appellation bestowed is most definitely your style, Jess, so I’ll get behind it. Allen makes his executioners work for it, and in the process kills a lot of those Ivan Ooze looking motherfuckers. They’re all so frustrated that each time, Allen, he didn’t even lose a limb. An eyeball. Bladder control. The team-up finally does happen, and it is lovely to see it, and now your reaction. On top of it, we had the Battle Beast come out to play, all the while bellowing, “Heghlu’meH QaQ jajvam!” during his fight with the Viltrumites. Good times. Hell of a move that he had with the acrylics. Loved your dread of Battle Beast. Could have been worse, seeing as Battle Beast clearly was not wearing his patient pants, as you put it. Allen and Omni-Man likewise did the work. That last tag-team punch was gross. Makes a man yell, “Jiminy mother loving toaster strudel!” upon seeing it. And they drop the bombshell about how the Viltrumites are more endangered than the Sith and the Jedi. Should prove interesting. Should be a hell of a thing to pick up on in about three and a half months when we, oh, wait, there’s no mid-season break this season, never mind. All joking aside, should be interesting to see what comes next, especially as you’re now all caught up. Look forward to the next episode late Wednesday night, followed by your reaction when you have it uploaded. Until then, thanks for yet another great Invincible reaction, Jess.

I couldn't help noticing the one flaw in Mark and Eve's arrangement: What if they both go bad at the same time? So how long until we get the same complaints about new Viltrumites like what happens with the Jedi, even though we have, what, 43 still unaccounted for?

I seem to have not been all that mad about the last season’s mid-season break. Other shows have done it, and sometimes with a wait of a year, so the Invincible one wasn’t that bad. I heard the backlash, was surprised. In any case, they’re not doing it again, so, problem solved. Yeah, sadly no Walton in Cobra Kai, nor Michael Ironside either, which is disappointing. Was also hoping that Hilary Swank would appear, particularly as I know she was game for it. No such luck. Alas. Hope you liked the last stretch of the show as I recall that you said wanting to try staying up to binge the final episodes. Cecil is my favorite, so I hear you on missing him some. He does get the good scene here. See you caught the line about Immortal asking if Mark got sick again. Hear you on the aversion of characters ignoring obvious hints. Here, Mark’s very clearly just processing everything at once, so yeah, his focus wasn’t on that. Ross did get some good acting moments as Aaron in The Walking Dead. (Jess will heartily vouch for that.) I still am impressed with his damn good Hugo Weaving impression as Red Skull in the more recent MCU projects. Speaking of that, I’m not seeing Captain America this week as it turns out. Weather’s gotten brutally cold, my buddy lives an hour away, so we cancelled plans. Schedules at the moment aren’t looking favorable to be able to reschedule, so I might be missing it in theaters, so I won’t be able to tell if I have the “wrong opinion” or not for a while. Can for sure call certain spoilers given press announcements a year or so ago, combined with previews. We are keeping the every other Mark is the Worst theme going, though it is nicely ambiguous what happened to the one that was talked about here. Actors that you would not expect to have the great energy, yeah, that’s in play here. Michael Dorn in the mix is definitely a bonus. His timbre remains familiar, even if not as overly Worf as it once was. Omni-Man getting his Milton Berle energy back will be something to see, good use of that line by the way. Hell of a final reveal, which yeah, should be interesting to hear if fans complain about new Viltrumites like what happens with the Jedi. Good note as well about the flaw of what happens if Mark and Eve go bad at the same time.

I'm still pretty awestruck that Cobra Kai was as good as it was all the way through, and actually makes the entire franchise feel like something that could have been a 40 year epic story all planned in advance (except New Karate Kid, which they apparently found so unsalvageable that they refused to reference it in any way). And I was able to do a full binge from 3 AM. Some pretty exciting Marvel news this week, as apparently the Daredevil Born Again crew is so confident in it that they've already started work on Season 2. So suck on that, everyone who was mocking them for totally scrapping the original show idea. I also imagine Thunderbolts is going to be the real sign of the MCU's future viability, since from what I understand Brave New World is the final project from the period when their plans were totally fucked by COVID and needed a ton of reshoots to keep the new order making sense.

Glad you got in the Cobra Kai binge. They pull off quite the accomplishment with tying all of it together. (Save the fourth film, hence the absence of the actors mentioned.) Heard that work started on season two of the new Daredevil continuation. Thunderbolts will likely be the first sign of audience interest going forward. Should be fun if they continuously shit on Walker in that. They seem dug in on the newer plans following dropping Kang, which I’m continuing to be vague about so as to avoid spoiling anything for Jess. Still baffled by the big casting announcement from last Summer, saying, “Ok, Feige, I’m going to have to stop you right there. What the fuck are we doing?” Maybe it’ll be good. Maybe I’m wrong to have the response. Sounds weird as all hell at the present moment is all I’m saying.

Also relevant to the community, Denis Villeneuve just announced that he's switched his schedule around to make Dune Messiah before any of the three other films on his plate right now. My expectations couldn't be higher after what he's pulled off so far.
