Somehow I knew the thumbnail would be from this scene!

Boy, that mid-season break went by fast, didn’t it? Felt like it was just last week when we put a pause on the season. Agree that this felt like a (comparatively) light episode of Invincible for you to enjoy before your flight, best of luck with that by the way. Noted much the same of this episode being on the lighter side when I watched it late last night. Continuing the season long theme of Mark dealing into the complexities of the world; how it’s not as clean-cut as they say in the movies. In this scenario, this manifests in helping Titan again. The show does good with Titan, giving us enough scenes of his family to understand his motives. Knew you’d love the discussion of feathered dinosaurs, made me say, “Yes, Betty too.” Love your own delightful “Betty!” at that part. Liu was a hell of a threat, and quite the creature he morphed into. That looked like a Gyarados, Smaug, and the dragon from Dragonball Z all rolled into one. Hell of a fight, and like Eve said, they could charge double to save up for the apartment, which made me quip, “The lady makes a fair point.” Interesting choice of part-time job for the two of them. You say that they’re like Angel Investigations. ...I don’t even understand the reference, but I gather the universe you refer to. We both clocked Titan living from the fall, and I had Tommy Lee Jones on the brain with that one. Quite great how he and Machine Head had their sort of team-up, even if as the ending shows, they weren’t entirely successful. Get a laugh out of Machine Head was inclined to acquiesce to Titan’s request. Concur with what you said of loving how this show brings back characters. Multi-Paul seems to have gotten loose, so he had better luck escaping than earlier. The claustrophobia of said earlier attempt, I KNEW would trigger you, I even noted, “Oh, she’s not going to like that.” and as the scene progressed and became more grotesque, added, “She is REALLY not going to like that.” I could see it getting to you even if you didn’t give much voice to it. Looking forward to more of his and Kate’s backstory. Oliver continues to make us nervous. We had a dread when he snuck out. Says something how Mark considers calling Cecil for help. I think Cecil would do Mark a solid about that, even offering, “Why didn’t you come to me? I mean, this is family. It ain’t business.” Dread increases when the bullies showed up. They did give me an icebreaker when the one bully asks why Oliver is purple. I didn’t even blink before saying, “Oh my god, Karen, you can’t just ask people why they’re purple.” Like how Mark and Debbie are in favor of Oliver just being a kid, and that they will ensure he stays out of trouble. (He said hopefully.) Concerning Mark and Eve wanting to get the apartment, there are the mixed feelings on that. As you and they say, it is moving a bit fast. To your point, they have known each other for some time now, which makes up some of the difference. The flip side of that is as you say, living together is a whole different ballgame. One I can’t relate to or add anything of value. That line Mark said about he can’t live at home with his mom for forever. ...Some of us have made it to our early/mid thirties and are still doing it, mind you, there is the absence of other options. Like how Debbie is wary yet supportive, and ultimately when Mark says they’re putting the apartment on hold, she had a sweet response to that. And when it came to Mark and Eve, to the surprise of no one, Debbie knew. Then there is the main event, the big Rex and Rae scene; I’m starting to get really on board with shipping them. Something I would not have expected four years ago, but here we are. You were completely on my mind when I saw the scene because I knew you’d adore it so, Jess. Called the wine likely being vinegar. I also commented with the food being from the meal pack, “Probably tough as a rubber sheet.” though they seemed to like the food. The scene, twas most adorable. Again, knew you’d live for it. You are a pillow and a softie, per your description. You mention how there may be comments being averse to this being the part of the episode you loved the most. Not me. You love the SHIT out of those scenes, and I’ll stand by it. I even yelled that during the reaction, yelling, “You love the SHIT out of these adorable as all hell scenes all you want, Jess!! I ever tell you otherwise you PUNCH ME IN THE FACE!!” Guess that’s it for this week of Invincible that we both greatly enjoyed. Godspeed with the trip this weekend/hope you’re enjoying the flight if you are already in the air. Just thank you for the lovely reaction, and all the best to you, Jess.

I'm surprised you didn't have more of a reaction to the threat of Liu turning into a giant snake. Maybe Enter the Dragon sucked out all your energy for a while. Lovely little counterpoint scene to the time in Season 1 when Mark walks in on his parents and they all silently agree to never talk about it. But add Oliver in the mix and suddenly that's much less of an option. Very grateful that they knew exactly how far they could push this and then stopped before it got old. And I'm very much into Mark and Eve going all "Toss a coin to your Witcher," though I have to think Eve's powers would give them a ton more money opportunities. These are the times I really have to remind myself these characters are much younger than the actors. Though conversely, including what I assume is a line straight from the original comics from two decades ago that Mark doesn't know how to use email was a really weird choice, reminiscent of the days when a show as self-consciously hip as Buffy could still unironically have dialogue like "I met him online." "On line for what?...Oh." It's now very clear that having Debbie's influence for 17 years was the x-factor that let Mark be the one version of himself who turned out a decent guy, and I adore all the writing of her doing the same with Oliver, never crossing the line to just being preachy as she stays fully believable, and Sandra is clearly loving it all. After how she was fucked over in the last season of Killing Eve, she deserves this. After Battle Beast's return, I was really hoping we'd also get to see more of Machine Head, and he doesn't disappoint. I also have to give huge props to Todd Williams, as I 100% thought Titan was still Mahershala the whole time. The first escape attempt was a total blast, always a treat when this show takes advantage of being animated to go even further with this kind of thing than The Boys can. The scheme was a tad predictable, but I have a hard time caring when it results in an epic dragon fight that a good portion of the season's animation budget clearly went to. What I will complain about is the mid-credits scene, which felt incredibly low key after their usual major reveals, and it doesn't help that I highly doubt we'll be seeing these two again this season. Speaking of, where the hell is that mummy?

Caught the line about the giant snake. They also kept flip flopping on describing Liu as dragon or snake, so maybe that helped Jess not get worried. I did think the same though. The scenes of the awkwardness with Mark and Eve, they do have that go on just long enough. Eve’s powers would be helpful in getting them the bread. Caught the email line too and noted that being odd in this day and age. I would be more willing to excuse that by way of Mark being a modern-day teenager as, from what I understand, younger generations have less working knowledge of actual computers and things like email. What stops the pass from being given is Machine Head talking about needing to learn about Microsoft Word, which I assume is also from the comics. Sandra, and the writing she’s given just keep her at the very close second to Cecil for being my favorite of this show. Debbie really is the heart of all of this that kept Mark on the straight and narrow. Hopefully, she can keep Oliver there too. I seem to be one of the more forgiving of the last season of Killing Eve, which I adored that show. Its last season did suffer from some serious confusion of identity, I admit. Sandra, likewise, did get the fuzzy end of the lollipop with the last season, true; I take your point on that one. Main thing that tempers most of my negative thoughts with the last season is that I had no expectations that the show would have anything close to a happy ending. (Though I have since found out that such a happier ending is in the books.) I don’t disagree with people being pissed off how the show ended, mind you. Still adore the show. Villanelle and Konstanin are my favorites on that one. Great to see Machine Head again. I found out about Mahershala not being back last week, but I too thought it was him. Maybe Marvel needs him available for Blade. (Cue Deadpool fourth wall break on that one.) What little I have caught of The Boys, the animation here does suit the creativity and gore better, I agree. Mid-credit scene did feel tame, and it seems likely it will be some time before we get sidetracked by that bullshit, just like that mummy. Talked with my brother a day or so ago. He’s at episode three when I talked to him. He’s holding out some hope for the Maulers. He concurs and got a good laugh with my observation of Oliver being, “The Incrediboy energy is strong with this one.” Kept quiet about last week’s episode. I told him about the Debbie and Paul plotline how the Cliff Curtis of it all has me hyper paranoid and concerned about that. He barely batted an eye as he knew exactly what I was talking about. Still playing the waiting game on that one. Sure as hell just hope that Paul is an honorable sort like Smiley in Training Day.

I also can't stop thinking about a superhero story having a love interest named Paul is a hugely loaded thing at this current moment. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the story of Zeb Wells' recent run on Spider-Man; it's absolutely nuts and I'm 50% sure the whole thing was a deliberate troll job on some fans who pissed him off.
