My impression of every reviewer of this episode: "Charlie Cox gets to use his real accent, so that's a fun meta joke...what's that? He's English, not Irish? Well, are they at all particular about that...oh my." Though it also got me thinking "Don't you proud Irish guys realize this is Owen Sleater?" It's pretty clear that this one was more or less untouched from the original show's more episodic structure, and after all the complaining I did about all the Netflix MCU shows needing more of this kind of thing, I'm totally fine with that, even if I also totally get why they felt the need to pair it with the next episode (on top of getting the season finished before Andor starts). It's a kind of story for a character like Matt I really love when it's pulled off right, where the villains really aren't that threatening and I could see them getting wiped out in a freak gasoline fight accident, but because he's out of costume with a bunch of people, he's forced to bide his time and find more subtle ways to fight back. And of course it helps a ton that we have Yusef along for the ride (they reportedly started out wanting Kamala herself on the show somewhere, but quickly decided she wouldn't fit well). Matt has this indefinable quality where he feels perfectly natural interacting with characters from any corner of the franchise, and this racks up another good one even with the occasional clunky line like we might forget who Yusef is (it wasn't much of a surprise that one of the writers here worked on the CW DC shows, where that kind of thing happened all the time and the smarter shows leaned into the silliness). And when Matt brought up his mother I wanted to tell Yusef "Yeah, sit down, that's a whole other story." I was wondering if we'd ever see Kim again after that glimpse in the premiere, and she makes a really great showing here even if she doesn't get to actually do anything in the end. The joke I'd go with: What's the difference between Matt Murdock and Wanda Maximoff? Matt can handle not having vision.

Given the statement that you made on youtube, I expected this later than it was, so that’s something. I must say that hotel Wi-Fi is slow with the downloading of the reaction, but it downloads well, thus avoiding the buffering. Concerning the episode. A solid St. Patrick’s Day episode, even if it is a little late for the holiday itself. Yeah, I recall you mentioned that at least once before that St. Patrick’s Day happens to also be your mom’s birthday. Very much a bottle episode, very much a breather, which it is lovely to see you love it so. I had caught word that Mohan Kapur was reprising his role as Yusuf. As I see Ryan noted, evidentially, we were originally supposed to see Ms. Marvel herself before they decided to have her dad appear. How and when, that I wasn’t sure on. One nice thing is that despite the disparate tones of the respective shows, Matt and Yusuf had a great energy with each other. You feel bad that Yusuf can’t green light the loan, even with the inspiring speech that Matt gave. It got you enough that you’d give him a loan, which fits as I recall you saying in the Fargo reaction how you’d likely not make the best car salesperson. It is sweet how though Matt’s not happy on not getting the loan, he notes that Yusuf was a very sweet guy. Gets you, the fatherly pride that he has for his daughter. And it makes you feel Matt’s desire to prevent anything bad happening to him when the robbery starts. Said robbery made me say, “Damn good timing of you seeing Dog Day Afternoon, wasn’t it, Jess?” The bad guys had the bad luck with the timing. On the other hand, they are also fortunate to not be trying to hijack a subway train as Kingpin is uniquely qualified to combat that threat, what with the insider knowledge and all. Kim got a good showing dealing with the ringleader. In terms of choice of joke, my brain went to the one from Boondock Saints, or there is a recent video of Vincent and Charlie reading dad jokes, and Vincent had a good one, maybe go with that. Quick sidenote, you asked about the snakes. As was taught in Sunday School, yes, Jess, St. Patrick, (who, incidentally, is the namesake for my church growing up,) was responsible for banishing the snakes from Ireland. A fact that you, of all people would greatly appreciate. Another quick thing to note: They make all the Guinness jokes. I’m not quite half Irish, and I’ve yet to have Guinness. In any event, the day, you usually stick with preferred brands if you tie one on for the holiday. There is the enjoyment of Matt tippy tapping, we both quite liked the music dropping out during the fights. The second fight, you screamed, I had similar reactions to the broken leg. Good on Matt for the trickery, leading to that great moment with the lady with the steady heartbeat, good catch, with the candy, and Yusuf with the gem. Very good eye with the latter, you’re such a sharp gal, Jess. We shared the reactions of the sweet moment when Yusuf extends the dinner invitation. You spoke well how this episode does highlight well Matt’s strengths when not tippy tapping. And yes, even if only for a moment, he felt like Matt back when Foggy was alive. All in all, a light episode that I would have been perfectly happy with this being the sole episode this week. Alas, the teenagers especially have zero fucking patience, and I’d imagine there is the pressure of Andor around the corner. Bringing me to the complications that you dealt with. I hate when work is done where power is cut/other forms of outside interference happens. I hear you on holding no ill will toward the workers. Putting myself in your place, I wouldn’t mind so much the power being cut as much as I’d mind the lack of an advance notice, which you said you got today. I know damn well what you talk about with the domino effect, made worse by the impending busy schedule. Not to mention how it would feed anxiety and OCD something fierce. It is therefore lovely that this ended up being a comparatively light episode that you loved. No problem on the delay of the next one, we shall be patient. Thank you for the fun Daredevil reaction, Jess.

I knew that Charlie is English. Never heard his natural accent until the recent video of him and Vincent having the dad jokes. His natural voice sounds higher than I expected, which tends to happen when actors adopt an accent regardless of what side of the pond one is on. The question of “English, not Irish? Well, are they at all particular about that?”, yeah, that is, shall we say a tender subject. Good shout on the Boardwalk Empire of it all. This did feel relatively unchanged from whatever original plan. I would have been happy with just this episode this week, though I guess the impending Andor release was an incentive with the double drop. I expected a Punisher and Daredevil two-parter, but this was a nice surprise. Good notes on the balancing acts with the bad guys. Honestly curious how having Ms. Marvel appear would have gone. Yusuf was lovely in this, so there are no complaints. Keeping watching Supernatural to see the reactions Jess has, tis true, CW does have some clunky lines. Reasonable response to the mention of Sister Maggie, which that is a long story. Kim did very well in fulfilling the Charles Durning role. Makes an excellent foil to the bad guy being the wannabe Robert Shaw, Alan Rickman, and/or Jeremy Irons. (I realize that the show was probably going more for Clive Owen in Inside Man, but my brain went to the older films.) The joke that you’d have gone with, yeah, I heard that one before, and it is a really damn good one.

I wanted to say something about them wanting a trip to another country like Wyoming but couldn't figure out where to put it in. I'm half Irish, but also don't drink. No big secret behind it, I'd just rather not take the chance with my OCD.

Ryan

I remember when a British reporter on the Oscar nominations tried to claim Colin Farrell's for Banshees as one for England, and quickly got frog-marched back out to apologize after the station's switchboard blew up.

Thomas Corp

Yeah, I wanted to put in a line or reference to a trip to Wyoming too, but like you said, couldn’t figure out a good place to work it in. And more than fair enough on the avoiding drinking so as to not take chances with the OCD.

Thomas Corp

Somebody thought Colin Farrell was English? Jesus, the switchboard would be bad on that one. Be like Slim Pickens dropping a bomb on it.
