"To be perfectly frank, Herbert, when I go, thoughts of you will be very low on my list of regrets.", The Doctor, "Timelash" I can't say this story is a favorite of mine either - but it was entertaining enough - especially Herbert. "What I don't understand is how the people of Karfel have accepted you.", The Doctor, "Timelash" Wait, Denis Carey was just a stand-in fronting for the Borad? I do like Denis Carey in Who - mainly due to his "Shada" appearance. "At last. Why am I being kept here? And why have I had this contraption fitted to me? Well, can't you speak, dumbo?", Peri, "Timelash" Nicola really didn't like this story, spending most of the time being tied up with the gas canister strapped to her or being threatened by the Borad. "That's me.", "You've changed a bit.", "Immeasurably for the better, it seems.", The Doctor and Herbert, "Timelash" It was nice to complete the 3rd Doctor callback after seeing a picture of Jo last episode, to see the portrait this time. A shame the mural got smashed at the end. "Think back to the tunnel when we rescued Peri from the Morlox.", "You're right. We saw a burning android.", Katz and Sezon, "Timelash" That's quite a nice story element - a time loop where we're shown the result in Part 1 and the cause in Part 2. "Sorry about this, but I was only getting in the way with the others.", "And what makes you think you won't do the same for me?", Herbert and the Doctor, "Timelash" Herbert is quite fun - although perhaps a bit annoying for a full-time companion. "He'll be harmless enough there. At least he'll have somewhere to swim for the next thousand years.", The Doctor, "Timelash" So, we get a second explanation for the Loch Ness monster after the Skarasen we saw in "Terror of the Zygons". Doctor Who is a bit like that isn't it - one explanation is never quite good enough to explain a mystery. "I think he'll return to Earth, don't you? After all, he does have an interesting story to tell.", The Doctor, "Timelash" So, Herbert was H. G. Wells. You were right, when you said "Well, this might give you something to write about, maybe". There are lots of "The Time Machine" references in this story. For example the name "Vena" sounds very similar to "Weena" who was in the novel. Also, the name of the Morlox creatures become "Morlocks" in his story. And I suppose we also reference the Well's novels "The Invisible Man" and "The Island of Doctor Moreau" in this story. Of course this isn't the first reference to H. G. Wells in a Classic Who story. We saw the Master reading "The War of the Worlds" in "Frontier in Space", in Shada we saw Professor Chronotis (Denis Carey!) reading a paperback copy of "The Time Machine". And in the 8th Doctor movie we see him reading "The Time Machine" in the TARDIS. "But who would know?", "I would. So would every other Time Lord from here to Gallifrey, and I can assure you, they're not all as pleasant and agreeable as I am.", Herbert and the Doctor, "Timelash"
