Yes, we are just moving it along here so we can get to Rogue One. Jumping right into the René Clément arc of this show, fun times this week. A slower paced start to said René Clément arc and done so well. You continue to speak true how the show takes such the large concept of the rebellion and tightens the focus on the people, and all that they go through in the fight. Strip it down to the characters, like you said. A fantastic montage of Mon Mothma trying to drum up support, which grows very difficult, as you say. How Ghorman is so deep in the shit that they’re in, it reaches the point where they do not wish to risk the Emperor’s wrath. How you say that when does it go from fighting to do the right thing, to just trying to survive, make it through the day and be able to sleep at night. The line can very easily blur. Nice to finally see Ghorman. I too caught the French, but not French. I’m not fluent, nor conversational, but I did pick up the accent. “Ghormans” is the most consistent way I’ve heard them referred to, to answer your one question by the way. Sneaky of Karn being quite the looky loo for Dedra. You saw through the subterfuge on that one quick. Eedy, it seems, did not. You see that the propaganda is doing a number on Eedy, who as Karn notes, spends way too much time watching Fox News and NewsMax. Rather says something when the resistance fighters overhear all the correspondence, and come to the conclusion, that Eedy sounds like a real bitch and that Karn needs to set some boundaries. Give him credit, when Karn is given a job to do, he gets shit done. You mention about how some fans are wanting Karn to have a redemption arc. I don’t. I COULD see him getting to a point where he TRIES to have a redemption arc. What that would look like would be less clear, and it would be moot as he would undoubtedly fail, fall, die trying. Dedra’s plans seem to be proceeding as she has foreseen. See you made note of the previous line in the season premiere. My ears perked up at the mention of the Tarkin Massacre, making me note, “Oh, the “Tarkin Massacre”, you say?” Love how you continuously advised the leader of this resistance against recruiting Karn for the rebellion, having the consistent thought, “Mon frère, I don’t think you understand what a BAD idea this is.” Love the scene of Partagaz losing his cool some, then cooling down as it’s acknowledged that ISB has the problem to deal with. Great scene where Luthen is blindsided by Dedra’s assignment, and Lonni cannot offer more concrete information for Luthen to do anything with. The Cassian and Bix scenes do get you. Complete with the references to this soldier that Cassian shot because he saw Bix’s face, and how, as you note, tis a slippery slope. Cassian justifying it by saying he was simply an Imperial, and how you observe how he’s lost so much already, that it fuels his ruthlessness. He doesn’t care to think on it further, when Bix no doubt thinks that the soldier’s sense of duty was no less than theirs, I would deem. She wonders what his name was. Where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there... in peace. War will make corpses of us all. And it leads to the one big moment where Bix lays it on the line: If they are to burn themselves for a sunrise that they know they will never see, then victory had better be the endgame. Like how nicely complicated it is of Cassian being overprotective which Bix not unjustly bristles at, yet he’s got good reason to be. And quick thing: Look at you recognizing the fruit that Hera wanted. Rather interesting as well to catch up with Wilmon being sent to help out Saw, lovely to see Forest as Saw again. He’s surprisingly patient about Wilmon’s non-answers, as that would drive me up a wall. Always a pleasure to see Forest work. Oh, yeah, even though it is a slower paced Andor episode, it’s still an episode of Andor, hence it is excellent, hence the fantastic reaction from you, Jess, thank you.

I'll admit it, for a while I was wondering if Gilroy had gotten a bit too overzealous in trimming out the rest of Season 3's story and just dropped us right into the middle of Syril's face turn after breaking up with Dedra. And once the whole thing is revealed, I got quite a laugh out of his turning his mother into an unwitting scene partner, knowing she'd inevitably start saying some racist shit that he could argue against. Also quite fun to see Partagaz has finally reached the point where even a dream boss like him just starts randomly snapping at people, with silent support from Denise as Dedra dies inside at her replacement on the Axis assignment fucking it up like this. Gilroy has indeed confirmed that Ghorman is meant to be an analogue to France in World War 2, a bit odd since Ryloth has been serving that role for years, but it's working so far. Also some neat canon rejiggering here, as the event known as the Ghorman Massacre in the Legends novels now actually happened in the new canon while we're still waiting to see the other event by that name as heard about in Rebels, which will drive Mon Mothma into going full "I'm gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see." We don't see much of Mon this time, and she's just stuck in the West Wing episode from Hell as apparently every single other Senator is fully onboard with "The best thing to do is give these demons everything they want, and eventually they'll stop asking." Though it's nice to see apparently she hasn't developed a full drinking problem which honestly no one would blame her for at this point. Much like Picard after Best of Both Worlds, it's always nice to see a story take PSTD seriously and make clear how hard it can be to live with. As a bonus, this also means we get more of Joshua James in a role he's utterly perfect for (I realize that's not exactly a compliment, but if the shoe fits). It took me a while to realize this dead Imperial wasn't actually one of those we saw Bix kill last week, and it feels like another thing cut from the larger plan, but I actually find it works better as just a noodle incident we're left to imagine the particulars of. I've never really been that invested in her and Cassian as a couple, but I still want to see them get as much happiness as they can, so even this slower story kept me engaged the whole time and I'm left on the edge of my seat wanting Bix to recover from this. Luckily, I didn't have to wait, and, well, see you there.

That speech should have been kept in the theatrical version. They knew people would be pissed at them messing with Faramir's story so much, so why not let him start out with such a great moment straight from the book before asking them to follow him there? The big irony with the French Resistance analogy is the leader is played by a German actor who's played Nazis several times. For a while I even wondered if he was Christoph Waltz under makeup with how similar their voices and deliveries are.

Does take a second to adjust and ascertain what happened with Dedra and Karn, and once it’s revealed, it’s great, especially that bit about Karn setting his mother up. Partagaz snapping shows that even dream bosses have their limits, and it shows what level does something have to be at so as to get that kind of rise out of him. I feel Dedra’s pain on dying inside with her replacement. We now have two planets analogous to World War II France, though this one is leaning into it in a more overt manner, so I have no complaints as we ask the question, “Is Ghorman Burning?”. Love how the alteration of the Ghorman Massacre leaves both the uninitiated and the initiated waiting with bated breath for what is to come. Certainly, we’re all behind Mon Mothma going full-on Garrert Morris. Any amount of Mon is good. The comment about it being good that Mon does not have the drinking problem, understandable though it would be if she did, makes me think of my mom as she’s said over the years that if she’s not become an alcoholic following the years of teaching, plus the madness of the world, she likely never will be one. I don’t argue the point, and I respect how she rarely drinks, especially nowadays for health reasons. The diving into the PTSD as has been done here has been great to see. Horrible for Bix. From a story standpoint, great to see. We do keep saying that Ian is so sublimely and utterly perfect as the Emperor who is one of the most pure evil characters in fiction. Saying that Joshua James is perfect here as Dr. Gorst, means the man has done his job. It’s like Paul Reiser saying his sister punched him in the gut after seeing Aliens, and his own mother cheered when his character is brutally murdered, which he took as high praise. Did take a sec to put two and two together on the soldier that Cassian killed. That is something I like with Gilroy with the thing of noodle incidents that we’re left to imagine the particulars of, as you put it. It’s something I loved about Michael Clayton. There’s lots of things in the backstories of that which we never see, yet the performances and dialogue build such the lived in world that your imagination works in great harmony with all of it. Loved how that’s continued here with Andor, and why I’ve had zero complaints about the streamlined seasons being crammed into one, as Gilroy’s style fits perfectly. Even if one isn’t super into Cassian/Bix, and I confess it’s not the biggest positive for me, the character focus is so excellent, that yeah, you have no trouble with the slow burn and playing the waiting game.
