Again, the shared thing of avoiding the trailers, particularly as this is The Walking Dead, I don’t wish to take chances, spoiler-wise. An opening with some style is a good way to come back to this show. Apologies about the copyright struggle with the song, I’d imagine. Fair prediction of characters testing the nerves. You assess well the echo of Negan living the high life in the cell. As you say, Negan can be one stubborn asshole when he wants to be, I know the feeling well. Man raises a good goddamn point of if they want to get to Hershel, they got to get past the mama bear that is Maggie. You note that there is uncertainty if the Dama and the Croat have Annie and her and Negan’s kid. Saying is one thing. Showing is another, as you say. Negan can’t afford to take the chance. Hence his reluctant performance in the church. If I were part of the filming for the church scenes, assuming they filmed in an actual church, I’d be crossing myself after every take, and I’d be looking up, saying, “Don’t hold this against me, Lord.” If I were Negan, I’d be a wiseass saying about the organ music, “Could we get some Toccata and Fugue up in here!?” Negan still puts on the show, subdued though it is as it was Negan providing the looking price. The King of the Saviors performance comes later. Oh, I knew you’d have the look when Lucille was resurrected. I will not argue against anything that you say if Lucille is let loose like in the old days. You have my complete sympathy if we go down that path. So, I see that we have the shared thing of knowing in advance that Kim Coates would be in this. Caught a headline or something. Funny though, being reminded of that made me go, “Oh, yeah, I did hear that he was going to be in this.” Man does have some serious chops. Looking forward to loving his character. Probably a loathsome villain. I’m going to live for the theatre as he looks like a fun one. Like how you express a similar prediction. One episode back, and I realize how much I have been missing Željko as the Croat. Lisa, likewise, is putting in the strong showing as the Dama. The Maggie and Hershel scenes got to you as I knew they would. Quiet sadness between mother and son is a good description. She’s bringing an energy that Pedro brought to Joel where it feels like she can sort of just have her son back with minimal trauma. And she’s lying, more to herself, about the Negan of it all. She’s in that “I saved him.” mentality with Hershel, and it hurts her that there is the tension between her and her boy. Not helping is that Hershel looks to be hiding something. Good to see more of Ginny. She is one to keep an eye on. Much though I do admire your confidence in the promise that Maggie made to Negan about Ginny, the rub that lies therein is that, far as Ginny is concerned, Maggie’s proven herself untrustworthy, so the promise is worth two things: Jack and shit, and Jack left town. Perlie is another character to keep one’s eye on. You can tell that he’s knowingly selling bullshit, and is trapped into doing so. It is nice how Maggie has that leverage about the truth about Negan over Perlie’s head. Loved your finger snaps at that. And he would be in a mess of trouble about that, a real pickle. Problem is, so would she, when that comes to light. Maggie still throws some good looks, which could kill, although, I don’t know, if looks could kill, Maggie would have had Negan six feet under years ago. Loved how unconcerned you were over the walker demonstration, complete with the dramatic walkers who know that they had a big entrance ahead of them, loved your comment on that. In terms of new characters to keep one’s eyes on, Kim’s character stands out. As does the new character played by Dascha Polanco, who her name popped up, and I said, “Oh, shit, didn’t hear that she was going to be in this.” Players are set for the impending war. “War” is the proper word, I feel. Reiterating my comments on the upload time. Again, sorry to hear about the bad night of sleep. The reactions will be uploaded when they are uploaded. Take all the time you need. If they’re ever late, frustrating though I very well know it is for you, it’s ok. Given the busy season, that’ll be just the way it crumbles, cookie-wise. Praying that it does go smoothly. And in any event, one episode back, and it is beyond great to be sharing Dead City again with you, Jess. Thank you for the terrific reaction.
