Looks like things have finally gotten bad enough in this world for Uatu to take an interest. I wasn't sure how familiar you were with Jeffrey Wright, and it was a delight seeing you instantly know he would only be hired if this character was worth keeping an eye on. He's also the second actor to reprise their role from the games (some others have also shown up, but as different characters) and that physicality honed over decades of his prestigious career makes it even better. I distinctly remember watching Angels in America and clocking him as the actor most worth keeping an eye on, which has paid off tremendously. Apparently the first soldier we see talking here is some big teenybopper star, but I'm officially too old to care about him, so I wasn't too sad to see him go. Or any of the rest after they were all such dirty cop cartoons even more than in Daredevil, so when Isaac tossed those grenades in I only thought "Now you're following Rule 303, bitches." Which the show then masterfully turns on its head as the next time we see him, he's demonstrating why copper is the only kind of pan he uses. It costs money because it saves money. Even with his victim clearly being a cult fanatic with massive blood on his hands, you can't help being disturbed, and it's clear how spending five years with this guy as a mentor caused Abby to turn out how she is. Some more of the central theme here, that your view of who's a hero and villain depends entirely which side of the glass you're on. Luckily, things are a bit easier to watch with Ellie and Dina. Though first we have to get through what I found the absolute saddest moment of the show so far, where we learn that apparently all the positive parts of the LGBT community had their meaning lost to time and they're cut off from this important part of their own history. Luckily, it's followed by a flawless recreation of perhaps the second game's single most iconic scene, Ellie's rendition of Take On Me with three chords and the truth. And yes, this is the reason the show's initial trailers all featured the song, even beyond its use in the mall episode. Bella may not be as technically accomplished a singer as Ashley Johnson, but in this case that just adds to the impact of someone doing the best they can to find a bit of happiness. Isabela has revealed it wasn't scripted that she tear up during this scene, but she just couldn't help doing it and everyone agreed it had to stay in. The rest of the episode becomes by far the most the show has felt like just a direct lift of the game since the first season's second episode, with stealth segments, shooting, running, and quicktime events all represented. And that all works fantastically as more of the crew clearly taking to heart the complaints about a lack of Infected last season. And all leading to the moment we all knew was coming, allowing both Bella and Isabela (boy, is that an awkward duo for the portmanteau shippers) to knock it out of the park. I feel like Ellie could have done a bit better job explaining herself even under the panic of the situation, but if you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady, I guess. I can see some getting frustrated with the cutting away once they get physical, but I didn't mind given the relative youth of both actors, plus I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable asking Bella to act out (and believe me, I wish I could come up with a better way to put this) having sex like a girl. The next morning does a great job building in some much needed laughs, though I did miss one line from the game where Dina says after revealing her pregnancy "It isn't yours." Speaking of, more game notes: One change I was very happy to see was Shimmer not getting blown up by a booby trap once they enter Seattle, and I'm very curious how her presence will affect things from now on, assuming she's not just being left in the music shop forever. The show from the start has controversially removed the Cordyceps' use of spores since it could only be believable as a video game mechanic unless they wanted the actors wearing gas masks at all times, so they had to come up with a new way for Dina to think Ellie was infected rather than her mask getting broken, and this is about as perfect a job as you could do with that. And you probably noticed that "Day One" caption once we enter Seattle, unlike anything the show has done before, and I'll just say whatever you're thinking it could mean, close, but you're way off.

I’d be more concerned if his watcher compatriot, Jason Isaacs (Hell of a coincidence with the name by the way.) got involved. Don’t recall exactly the first time seeing Jeffrey came to my attention. I know that whenever he shows up, you got some real good acting. Nice to see Jess knew what was up in that respect. Technically, I’ve heard Laura Bailey is in the reprising the game role as apparently, she voiced a nurse in the game before having the cameo as the nurse last season. Two scenes in, Jeffrey is killing it. “Teenybobber”, I’m not sure is the right word when describing the one cameo, but semantics. He was a big kid star about twenty or so years ago. Never really did see much if any of the show he was in. Honestly didn’t even catch that’s who that was until this morning, though when watching last night, he did look vaguely familiar. The torture scene makes an impression. As I mentioned, Isaac is less interested in the chicken and the egg cycle, particularly as he sounds familiar with the idea of perspective in that a chicken is an egg’s way of making another egg. And you go down that path, it never ends, which is why he’s very adamant about this cycle, that they need to SNAP OUT OF IT, hence the copper. He does show a glimpse of what was probably his discipline with Abby. The “what side of the glass” thing, it’s like Tim Curry when he sang about the pirate’s life, namely, “It’s how you look at buccaneers that makes them bad or good. And I see us as members of a noble brotherhood!” The meaning of the LGBTQ+ icons being lost is very sad. You hold onto how the girls viewed it as optimism and happiness. The latter being particularly not incorrect. The sting does hit you pretty hard. Never have seen any of the trailers for this. Knew of the song connection as people were LOUD about it last season. Still just love when it did pop up last season, Jess had the strong reaction, which made me remember, as I said then, “Oh, yeah, that’s right, you said that was one of your favorites!” Bella not having necessarily the strongest or more polished voice compared to Ashley works well for the scene. And it’s not like it’s distracting how good the singing is, because then it could easily sound like Lorna Patterson belting out River of Jordan, and it would kill the mood. The quieter, more subdued singing here from Bella, they did great. Neat fun fact about Isabela’s tears being real. Still think the complaints about the dearth of infected scenes was stupid, but they are striking a good balance here of having more of that, without overtaking the drama and character moments. Good note on the shipping name. As I said, I feel that Ellie should have mentioned something about her immunity after they embarked on their journey, though I fail to think of how you begin that conversation. And Ellie not having the best explanation, like you said, ask a straight lady if you want a straight answer. Could see the frustration that you highlight, though the age of those involved, not a big deal. The apology of wanting the better way to put your one part of the comment, yeah, I can’t think of a good possible alternative. It is the one thing of even when you’re talking to people that know you mean no offense, you still predicate with statements like, “I’m sorry to sound indelicate” or “I’m sorry that I’m probably saying this wrong.” Or when my mom was still new to the concept of people being non-binary, I explained the concept as best I could, and I’m recognizing that my description is poor, and I noted mid-explanation, “And, this is, uh, I’m not doing a very good job at explaining this. I know.” Good to see they made the change of Mr Ed not going kerblooey in the show. Heard about the spores thing, hence why Bill had the gas mask in his introductory scene as a nod to that. The new method to prove that Ellie is shooting straight so that Dina does not shoot straight and hit Ellie right between the eyes is good. Noticed the day one thing. Seeing that makes the immediate thought be about the army of Marks that Angstrom unleashed, so, yeah, I would venture a wager that I am off the mark by a fair margin.

Yeah what do they do for toothpaste in the apocalypse? Tbh, bad breath is the least of their concerns here! So we meet Isaac. I heard he was in this ep, and I figured Abby would be too since in the game anytime he was around, generally she was in the vicinity. Nice that we got a bit of a back story about him here, and how he sees FEDRA is working against the people and the nascent WLF rising, so decides to join them. More than we got on him in the game, I feel we'll see more of his back story to come, which will be interesting, and Jeffrey Wright reprising his role from the game too, delivers, as always. The kid he took on who we see later become a hardened lieutenant soldier in the WLF after 11 years with this group and the ongoing war with the Seraphites; I wonder if he is Danny? We don't see Danny in the game but hear about him; that would be awesome if so, just to flesh him out some more, as by all accounts, he is something. The woman at the start that Isaac meets too, perhaps I'm just flailing around her, but could she be the prophet? Again we didn't meet her in the game either, and I would like a bit more background on her, if that is the case. Anyway an excellent introduction to the WLF leader, I hope he becomes a more prominent character than we see in the game. That was some lovely cookware btw, you get what you pay for! The music store scene was beautiful, and Bella killed it with her lovely singing voice. When I heard Ashley Johnson's Ellie sing in the episode where Joel was killed, I half-thought they might mix her in here with Bella, but no need, Bella was great. And glad to see how you reacted to the guitar stuff Jess. The music sections were so important in the game, and there was several major story beats surrounding the guitar, and its link back to Joel, and the way it was shot was very similar to the game as well. Perfect. The showrunners are keeping the gamers on their toes here, especially this episode, as though there are plenty of moments we see here from the game, its altered and done slightly differently to keep us wondering with certain things! I don't need to go into details on it, but in the main I like the changes they made, not better, and certainly not for the worse. I love Ellie putting her arm in the way for the infected to bite and protect Dina. In the game its spores and Ellie's mask gets smashed and Dina offers to share before Ellie stops her. Here Ellie sacrifices a bit from her arm to ensure Dina makes it. Also the stuff around the pregnancy, Ellie in the game is shocked and hurt when Dina mentions it, but the pacing here is different and they are just developing their relationship, so its nice to hear Ellie mentions hilariously that she'll be a dad! They'll need to let Jesse know first though hehe! How they are going to get on now that Dina is getting regular sickness, we'll see, as we start Seattle : Day Two.

That is strange you mention about the nudity being flagged on Youtube Jess, I've watched LM Reactions and they didn't cut a lot of the nudity when going through The Wire. However yes, I know they are strict about swearing, songs and nipples - yet are happy to let misogyny and hate speech run rife there, but hey boobs and willy's are the devil's work!
