This is one of my top 20 episodes of the series. IMHO, Jensen and Jared really should have been nominated for Emmys for several episodes (if they had been on a different network they probably would have). This is one of those episodes. They both nailed the emotional turmoil of losing yourself (Jensen) and watching someone you love lose themselves (Jared). Plus Rowena is amazing.

This episode always tugged on my heartstrings, but it hits different now that I have a close friend with early onset Alzheimers. She's 43 and has been exhibiting symptoms since the pandemic (maybe even earlier but nothing was said until she had to retire from teaching). My friends and I still included her with our weekly friend gathering for pub quiz trivia, but a few months ago she had to stop joining us regularly, now that she can't leave the house without a wheelchair and requires a full-time carer. Since she and her husband live close to where we meet, we still stop in every week and visit with her for a bit. I can't even imagine what her husband is going through, but he's been determined to keep her at home instead of sending her to a care facility. They both knew this might happen because it happened to her dad around the same age. They opted to never have children because of that, and he was prepared (as he could be) for this eventuality. It is so difficult to watch someone you know just slip away like that, so yeah, this episode really hits hard once you've experienced it yourself.
