I had assumed that, as you said, you had a day yesterday. You did mention a while ago about the possibility of either Last of Us or Dead City having a delay or two, and I figured that this was what was up yesterday. No problem. Good to hear you say everything’s fine. That’s a lovely floral print on your top by the way, and it matches very well with the orange. Now to the episode. Yes, I do believe that this one was most fun and delightful. Unsurprisingly, Narvaez is still on your nerves. Interesting scene that she had with Ginny who has spilled the beans about Negan being very much not dead. Hear you on Perlie. It feels like he’s still trying to hold onto the idea of New Babylon, and not so much the truth, the weakness of it. We do hope that he’ll come around. He and Maggie do raise the good question: Children never knowing the before. I keep thinking that with 9/11, and over the last five years now, the pandemic. I recall Daryl and Isabelle discussing it in the Daryl and Carol show. The question does pose a great thought experiment. And indeed, the thought, who are you really trying to restore the world for. Sweet when they compare their longing for food. Of course, you would miss tacos the most in this fallen world, Jess, and I knew you’d assess Perlie’s response as very New York. Answering the question that you asked of us: Not sure what I’d miss most. Steak would be up there. I would dearly miss the option of having a nice big bowl of gnocchi. Very likely I would have cravings for bagna càuda from time to time. Maggie mentioned jelly donuts. Don’t go for the jelly donuts myself, but with donuts, I’d miss my local donut shop if the world fell. We get further confirmation that we are right to be wary of Hershel, though his one revelation about the fireflies is sweet, man does it get me seeing how it got you. The sweet thing, cheering up one’s mom in the down times. Me, some years it was just letting my mom vent about the really rotten school years. Some days she’d come home, you saw she was at her wit’s end, so you started the ball rolling by asking, “Bad day, Ma?” Nice that we get the spotlight on Kim as Bruegel. Unsurprisingly, he is a psychotic, though he brings some damn fine drama, so I live for that. A big highlight was the Croat and Bruegel having their petty and catty back-and-forth. Villains partaking in the passive aggression whilst engaged in the witty repartee does wonders for the soul. Don’t you think? Željko and Kim sell it all so well. Tensions reach their breaking point when Bruegel mentions that he has a few addendums, a couple of quid pro quos. Good on the Croat spotting the fortuitous track record with the walker fights, even if he came to the wrong conclusion. Loved how our young Benjamin Pierce, (the name, by the way, I really have to not think of Hawkeye, and by extension, I have to stop expecting Alan Alda to show up in this show, lovely though he’d be in this universe, and really any show or film for that matter,) when he spoke of the Dama’s past, you had great worry for him. An interesting reveal that the Dama used to be a regular Hedda Hopper of the theatre scene back in the day. See she did peruse the one book and saw Hershel’s drawings; I was waiting for the payoff on that. Big moment when Negan and Maggie have their one scene. Love Negan’s response to Perlie piling on the palaver pretty goddamn thick. Negan was kinder than I was when Maggie accuses him of not really being a prisoner. Funny her saying that, considering how she never really asked the Croat why he wanted her to find Negan, though it makes sense as her laser focus was on getting her son back. And credit where credit’s due, when Negan mentions about his family, she does soften her stance somewhat. Speaking of his family: You reiterate that you are not entirely convinced that the Dama does indeed have Negan’s family. That is my current assessment as well, and you can tell that Negan is starting to entertain the idea, whilst he still knows that until he knows that for sure, he can’t afford to take the chance. I’m allowing some benefit of the doubt that travel would be slower in this world, yet, it is suspect that we have not yet seen his family actually in custody, so we share that skepticism, whilst acknowledging why Negan has no choice but to consider it to be the truth for the time being. Good on Negan for trying to warn Maggie that she should not ask Hershel why he doesn’t pass the time by playing a little solitaire. Obviously, Maggie refuses to listen at first, but then she sees the Dama, and you can see that she’s letting Negan’s words marinate, which will be joined by the seasoning that is what she’s clocked already as she keeps watch over that boiling pot, which is still simmering. Shame she’s not the best at sneakiness. Yes, Maggie doesn’t earn a particularly high grade on her sneaking out report card, as you put it. The Dama probably already knew that she was there, granted, but the Croat likely didn’t, hence you kept telling him to keep his eyes down, and turn a deaf ear. Whilst it wasn’t exactly a shared response, I don’t blame you for having the reaction that you had to Bruegel’s opening and closing scenes. That last scene was rather gruesome. Revealing that his champion fighter was indeed his previously mentioned bodyguard, Tony. Just like you called, Jess, goddamn, you’re sharp. And since Negan let Bruegel know that he knows that Bruegel is a lying bitch, as you said, the days of fixing that game is over said and done. Meaning that as of this episode, we have like five or six different factions on the board. This game of chess is getting spicy. All in all, a very wonderful reaction that was worth waiting for. Thank you for the reaction, and again, no worries that there was a delay, Jess. Take care.
