"For obvious reasons, like... broken ribs, or... burned feet... we don't trust the brits." This line from Sammy breaks my freaking heart, and honestly is the best line in the episode (which, in and of itself is a great episode, with the focus on family ties, and familial betrayal). Jared and Jensen's acting in that scene with Mary, where she confesses what she has been doing is just phenomenal and heart shattering. Dean's pain, and betrayal, and Sam's lost confusion... they look so young, and devastated in that scene. Like kids, who just lost their mother all over again. And I love, love the parallels between Rowena and Crowley, and Mary and the boys. The lying and deceit, the direct/indirect way the actions of the mothers hurt the sons. I love how Crowley, Sam and Dean all react completely differently to Mary and Rowena's betrayal as well. Crowley is stunned, and almost disbelieving, and detached. Disappointed, even. As if he should have expected it. Dean is hurt, and betrayed and furious. Because his mother, the woman he grew up idolizing and memorializing, who he gave up his childhood to avenge, who is supposed to protect her children, took the sides of his baby brother's tormentors. And for Dean, for who family is absolutely everything, nothing comes before choosing your family. You do everything for them, especially when they have been hurt, and to see that his mother doesn't seem to share that view... you can see in his eyes just how world-shattering that is to him. And Sammy... Sam just can't even seem to understand it. He looks so confused, like he can't grasp what his mother did. The innocence in his face, the lostness, like he is searching desperately for an answer, a reason, to make this make sense, is just.... Jared just freaking ripped my entire heart out lol. And, even worse, because just a second before, he lit up like a kid on Christmas just seeing his mom come home. Man, the acting in this episode is just superb.

Broken ribs, char broiled foot. And, you know, the, what was essentially rape, which it seems the writers are just continuing the trend of pretending that it never happened, which is disgusting, yeah, Sam does a number with going at the heart listing off how the Brits do not have their trust. It is something how the boys regress when Mary makes the revelation and it feels like they’re losing their mom again. They do look young in that moment, as that happens in life when faced with losing parents. They definitely had that when Bobby died. That look they had at the end of that one being two boys losing their dad. It is a familiar feeling. Here, they’ve lost Mary before, and it looks like they’re losing her again, hence the regression. Very good words on the boys’ exact emotional responses. The parallel is the mom and son business with Crowley and Rowena, the former surprises me with the line indicating he’s a Cubs fan, making me like him even more than I already did. It says something when Ruth expertly sells how Rowena indicates though she does not regret getting the revenge against Crowley, it still hurt her to help kill her grandson. And Crowley is definitely disassociating and detaching so as to not feel his heart crumbling from losing his son again. Proving old Crowley does have a heart. An itty bitty one, but it’s there. Mark conveyed an immense amount with minimal facial acting combined with the detachment in his voice, great stuff.
