I've said it before, but I absolutely loooveee Sam's arc this season. I feel like we are really seeing him excel in hunting, in a way that we haven't before. He is becoming more confident in the actual combat side of hunting, rather than just the research. Not that he hasn't always been a phenomenal hunter, but there is something different this season, in the way Sam holds himself, the way he fights, the way he is able to take down such massive threats (like the god here, the alpha vamp, standing up against Lucifer, repeatedly.) We are watching Sam sort of level up as a hunter, and it is so gratifying to watch, having followed his story so far. The confident, self-assured way he walked in and just took down the god, as if it was no big deal is such a far cry from the angry, scared kid he used to be. I also really, really love the maturity of the boys conversation at the end, of what the Winchester legacy will be, and acknowledging they aren't going to be worldly famous, but they still matter, they still make a difference and that is what is important. And, that freaking montage of them carving their names, first in Baby as children, and now in the bunker as grown men... I feel like this is them marking the Bunker as home. Yeah, they have lived here for a while, and its been a haven, a shelter, but I think carving their initials is sort of the Winchester way of signing a deed. It's their signature, staking a claim in the bunker. Making it theirs. Which is wholesome, and lovely, and beautiful, but with the BMOL sneaking in and bugging it and stealing their pictures (Ketch!), also incredibly insidious, that they finally take this step, accept the safety and security of the bunker, when it has never been more dangerous for them

Sam has been excelling with the combat end of the hunting lately. He has shown great strength in the bookish side of things, and as you’re saying, he’s been kicking it up a notch on the combat side of things. The boys did have that good conversation at the end. Feels like the bunker has been their home for some time now, they’ve just sort of kept that idea at arm’s length to avoid getting attached to the idea. Carving the initials, as you note, means they’ve embraced the idea. Makes it all the more rotten with what the Brits did. Especially what Ketch did with taking the picture of Mary, I yelled, “Oh, THAT’S dirty pool!!” Take a man’s picture of his mom, maybe the only picture of his mom that he’s got, THAT’S LOW, that’s a sick thing to do.
