I always enjoy the first couple of days in the studio — everyone’s excited, and getting tones and digging into the possibilities of the songs I find really enjoyable. Then the grind starts: take after take, and every f**k up is more time you don’t have. It gets stressful, especially when you’re really up against the clock and start having to make compromises. And then at the end it gets fun again, when you start actually hearing it all come together, and goof around with those last minute ideas (theremin, anyone?) that add that final pinch of zest to the whole thing.
