I bought a Friedman IRJ, its pretty badass

I've never ever owned a distortion pedal. Always used what amp had to offer.. at least in younger days. In 1988. I was armed with a kramer guitar and my dad's old Peavey Bandit 65.. in 1990 I got a Carvin SX-200. Friggin loved that amp.. I miss it. It lasted until 2007.. these days I just use a Fender tone master pro. Pretty cool unit. You tried it?

Dave

Guess you were right when said that Bad Cat takes pedals like a champ.

Chris

I'd like to give that a try myself. Affiliate link?

Chris

Whoa ... 269 bucks? I think I'll stick with what I've got. Did the sender tell you when it'll be released?

Matthew Briggs

Yep, it's got gain alright! I'm all set with my RevvG4, it really packs a punch. 3 channels of delicious gain.

I've gotten into building my own pedals over the last 18 months or so. Really scratches that "LEGO" itch of building something with my own hands that I can then play with. But I've also found that a light hand is almost always better with pedals. My current bedroom rig is a Green Pony (a Maxon OD820 clone, which is basically the bastard love child of a Tube Screamer and a Klon) into a Vox Cutting Edge (which has a Korg NuTube in it), into an Orange Micro Dark. I use the Green Pony at maxed volume cut gain to tighten my signal, then match the gain on the Vox pedal and Orange amp at about 10 O'clock. It comes reasonably close to a Mesa Dual Rec at about 1/10th the price.

Good sounding pedal….damn

I 2nd that, killer Marshall on roids tube tone. The Purple Nightmare tune preamp pedal is pretty sick too.

What speakers did you plug that Badcat into? Those matter too, ya know! :-)

It’s all UA OX like I usually do. Mostly the greenback 30 cab on this, with some layering of the V30 cab.

I have the original MXR 5150 Overdrive as well and I think it sounds great. My go-to, however, is my Empress Heavy. It just hits the levels of saturation that I love (though I am not above boosting it with another overdrive). Plus, it's got a lot more tonal control than most distortions.
