I ended up splitting a chapter in half again. Chapter 20, which contains events that were planned to be in this chapter but which would have made it way too long, will likely be the next thing I work on, while it’s fresh.

Also, the $3 tier is now no longer a thing.

edit: fixed the missing space between “game” and “ends”

The build up and foreshadowing this chapter. I feel like shit is gonna hit the fan real soon.

This was confusing: “She got out of the locker room inside five minutes, … Halfway to the locker room,” Two-ish paragraphs later it becomes clear that second “locker room” is the staff locker room, but I think it would be helpful to avoid the confusion. And, of course, a wonderful chapter.

dorley's got me going, relax, maxine, honey, don't you know statistically 80% of women are born in basements? i bet you half the cheerleading team is trans. but then i remember that this is the US lol. also, gotta say, i find it hilarious that thus far the only thing mama giordano makes, unless i'm forgetting something, is meatballs.

godddddd this chapter makes me so nervous!!!! they're too happy!!! shit's gotta hit the fan soon, i just hope it isn't the worst case scenario that being said obviously it's lovely to see them this way and the chapter was fantastic

She works, so I figure she makes a huge batch and freezes them so they eat them every few nights

Nynaeve Sebastian

fair enough. they've probably got an enormous freezer, and i doubt anyone but her cooks in that house to get in the way of her food storage

I'm honestly really excited for things to get messy again. This status quo is nice, but I think the story is most fun when the gang is scrambling to deal with minor criseses hehehe

This is so sweet and gorgeous, and I'm so nervous for Maxine. Also I badly want Avery to know how well her Max is doing because she's going to be so happy.

Such a wonderful read. An amazing cliff. Then there is all the tension slowly building through the chapter! This is such an amazing story! I cant wait till something happens to clue in Mom or Dad Giordano, or the payoff that Maxine is going to have. Its either going to be supper supportive, or there will be one hell of a payoff. Maxine has got the support network set up!

I think the epub file was accidentally replaced with The Catch, can’t seem to see Chapter 19’s epub anywhere! Hope this is fixed soon, I want to read it so bad

Zenmadster

Curses! You already caught the real typo before I could score a point!

Zenmadster

Only a subjective suggestion, because my inner narrator switched accents: "pried herself free from". Mostly because "prized" feels not-Californian (even with the Z :p ), and "free of" tends to end with phrases like "dyes and perfumes" over here.

Maxine-without-Taylor is such a big step. Probably the most anxious I've been this whole story, waiting to see that the other girls would be okay.

Endera

Kennedy’s “I just know guys, Maxine,” has me thinking she was either assaulted by (a guy like) Gordo, or she’s trans herself and heard the shit toxic boys/men spew in private. I adore this story, and glad to finally be catching up with it.

I haven't finished reading yet but the "Good thing she's not here, then, isn't it" had me cackling knowing Taylor has narratively sealed Max's fate. 🤣
