I’m very much a Godzilla guy, he’s all over my house, and this is my favourite of the movies, probably watched it 10 times. I took my apprehensive gf to see the re-release, and in her words “I like the parts where things were happening, but most of the time nothing was happening”. A mild success, I’ll take it.

Sony does have a streaming service and it makes just as much sense as you’d think a Sony streaming service would. It’s called Sony Pictures Core (CORE apparently stands for Center Of Real Entertainment). It’s mostly a digital purchase / rental service, but if you have a PlayStation Plus Premium or Deluxe subscription you can access a small library of Sony Pictures films for no extra cost. It was thoroughly unappealing to me in just about every way, but I was able to watch Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Devil’s Backbone” while I was a premium member.

I got to see the Godzilla : The Art exhibit when I went to Tokyo in June. Very cool and the first museum in a skyscraper I've ever seen. Not much Shin Godzilla material ( the Blu-ray was in the gift shop though) . There were some video pieces that focused on the destruction Godzilla would cause and that struck me as being somewhat inspired by this film. Also I had a Godzilla Burger at the museum cafe. He tastes like a teriyaki meatball apparently

I got the blu-ray years ago, but I was able to see this movie a couple of weeks ago, in theaters at 10:30 on a Monday morning, I was the only one in the theater, it was awesome. I think the movie is very funny, the constant barrage of officials' names and locations for the first part of the movie is so funny to me. But then of course when Godzilla starts blasting lasers everywhere it is the most hype shit. People say this movie is boring and I just completely disagree, I think it rules. Glad you all covered it on the pod!

Get in the title, Shinji. (Shin Godzilla, ShinG)

So excited to hear y’all cover a Godzilla movie (shin is fantastic, easily top 5 for me). I want to make sure everyone is aware of the Anno crossover media shin universe robo, a short/toy of a megazord-style combo of Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, Shin Kamen Rider, and Evangelion. It’s so insane and incredible. I’ll briefly also add that a Godzilla month could fit in November (as an anniversary of the series as a whole) and push again for a kaiJune/kaiJuly for future kaiju media. Really enjoyed the episode and am so appreciative of all y’all do. Keep killing it.

Went to one of the few screenings where i lived in Australia when it was released. I'll always cherish the feeling of the air getting sucked out of the theatre during the atomic breath scene. I also made the pilgrimage to the Shin Godzilla statue in Tokyo while I was there. Also would love to hear what Heather thinks of Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans so far.

Regarding Matt’s question as to what the other great Godzilla movies are, I heartily recommend turning your attention to the Hesei Era, namely Godzilla vs. Biollante, which I am certain was an influence on Anno. Tell me if this plot sounds familiar: a grief-stricken scientist attempts to preserve the soul of a deceased loved one by combining their DNA with the cells of Godzilla and a flower, inadvertently unleashing the monstrous Biollante on the world. There are many other parallels to EVA, and Godzilla’s titular opponent is incredibly designed, like if Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors was a biblically accurate angel. (Google an image of Biollante to see for yourself.) In the words of Heather, it’s fucking rad!

One Piece didn't grab me until Arlong Park and then I watched the whole series in a year haha. I hope Heather sticks with it so she can hear the drums of liberation.

What other monsters do you want to see wreck a city as they rapidly progress through their nasty lifstages? For me it's Lugia and Grimace
