S02E06 Melora

This week we get to see a much more sincere Dr Bashir and I'm here for it! Curious to see if the character introduced here will stick around or pop into future episodes or not. Engage! ðŸ––

Me personally, now that I'm older and have more life experience, I can appreciate what they tried to do with this episode. However, the only bad thing is Julian dating a patient. Yes, the way they made their characters fall for each other seems sincere (the actress playing Melora, and Siddig, really knocked it out of the park!), buuuut from an ethical standpoint, Julian really should have put up more of a boundary. On the other hand, i understand he's the only doctor on the station, so we do have to give a little leeway here; can't expect the dude to be celibate forever if everyone on the station has him as their doctor! 🤣 Besides, they're two grown adults and should have some maturity in navigating a complex relationship.

In the original Little Mermaid story, the Prince marries someone else and the only way for the little mermaid to return to the sea is for her to stab him with a dagger and drip his blood on her feet to return to being a mermaid. She can't do it and ends up turning into sea foam instead. Disney decided that wasn't the ending that they wanted for their version of the story, of course, so the movie ending is happier.

Its no "Duet", but its also not remotely an "If Wishes Were Horses" either. For me its just an enjoyable, middling episode that I can just have some fun with whilst waiting for the weightier, story-arc episodes.
