Pride and Prejudice (오만과 편견)

I love that they delve a bit into her perspective here. Ung is kind of oblivious to how much she struggles because he's had it a bit better, but she's also not going to be vulnerable like that and say she needs help or support

Kate

Also it was what, mid college/young adulthood when the breakup happened. We're all pretty dumb and unable to communicate at that age, and it really sucks that it had such big ripples for both of them

A big part of her decision is her inability to be vulnerable. Being vulnerable is easier said than done especially if you didn’t grow up seeing it. Her grandmother has always taught her to be cold/selfish to be strong, so that was the only way she knew how to love. I love this show for the complexity of the characters.

I think yeon su didn’t want to burden him with her situations because his dream was to live a carefree life . Although she may think he is not serious about life, she never held it against him and never judge him and accepted him for who he was .But for him , he use to think she work too hard and did not understand her . That’s why he said he appreciate her now for who she is . Pride is her and prejudice his side.

I love how realistic, layered, and nuanced all the relationships in this show are, not just the romantic relationship between the two leads. I can't wait for you to learn Ung's backstory, because it explains a lot about the way he is. Also, about her last line of how the reason they broke up was because of her pride,,, I think there's a layer that can be overlooked because of the translation because the word she used to say "pride" in Korean is somewhere between "pride" and "arrogance". To me, as a Korean-speaker, it felt like she said "We broke up because my arrogance told me that I could live without him." I think she'd lived her life up until that point by choosing what was more important for her. Like, her friendships weren't as important to her than succeeding in life and protecting her grandmother. Since she had something more important, she didn't let having no friends bother her. Keeping her pride was more important, so she didn't let being poor and people talking crap about her bother her. She was always making choices based on priority. So when her world started crumbling, she went into survival mode again and thought, what's more important? what are the pros and cons? and said, Ung was the only thing available to her that she had the choice of giving up, hence her words, "you're the only thing that i can throw away." It was a very bad decision that broke both their hearts, but as you've discussed, sometimes you gotta make stupid decisions to learn.

Yeon-Su also felt like she is dragging Ung down, as you mentioned the opportunity he turned down, she might've felt that part of it was because of her. As he does not want to be away from her if he took that opportunity overseas. Adding the family problems of Yeon-Su, she might've felt that she does not want to bring him to her world. That is why in her internal monologue she mentioned only Ung is the one she can throw away (from her perspective she is saving Ung from her life).

I felt like Ung was the only thing she could throw away because it was the only “thing” she had. Everything else was hers by blood or debt. Crazy b* behavior, how could she give up the only thing she has?!? Arrogance at its peak. fangirl time: I love how every frame of this show feels so thoughtful, to see customers slowly showing up at her friend’s restaurant is such a simple but good way to show passage of time and change, and Ung’s scenes when he started and finished his drawing section in public in contrast to Nu-ah’s, so good. We got to see the introverted Ung, is easy to forget he doesn’t like attention when he can be so himself with his friends and family, so I thought that was a really great scene.

i completely agree with that being a big part of her decision and thats why they showed us that scene in this ep where he tells her how his dream is to love a carefree life- he always said that and he also complained about how she's always working when he asked her to go see the cherry blossoms so she felt a bit ashamed to show her reality to him

Shreya

i really like the actor who played ji ung in this theres a series called "do you like brahms " where he kinda plays a similar role which also has eun bi the female lead from the extraordinary woo its seriously underrated show its highly unlikely youll ever react to it cause its not as hyped among western audience but its a great show to watch
