That's why we love Horimiya. It's so realistic. You can be brave, make good moves, try as hard as you can. And still won't make it.

I'm sure you might've picked up on it, but I want to explain this anyway because it's such good writing! But when Japanese people refer to each other, they don't say "you" unless they're being rude or don't know each other's names (even then, there's ways around it, like calling them "kimi" meaning friend, or "onee-san/onii-san" for older girl/boy, "obaa-san" for aunty or elderly lady, ect.) They refer to each other by name "I like Yuki's hair" instead of "I like your hair" (granted they cut out names and nouns entirely at some points) so in Toru's argument, we understand through context that he's telling Yuki not to melt herself for someone else, and not to talk bad about herself, but he's doing it verbally too. By saying "Yuki only melts because Yuki chooses to" it verbally can be taken as him talking about both snow and Yuki. I really love this about Japanese language and writing~ it's so unique and clever and allows for really beautiful storytelling, and it's sad that it gets lost in translation so much in novels. Like in the book, "Barely Human" there's so many words used that have more than one meaning, so reading it with an English lens, sometimes you'll be like "why did they use this odd word here?" Or sometimes it goes too blunt in translation so it destroys the author's creative expression. But it's such fantastic use of words that adds to the poetic side of the language 🥰

I like when a show manages to make it hard for me to know, what to think and feel about something. And HoriMiya did that in this episode.

It definitely feels to me like Toru knows Yuki likes him. They've clearly been friends for awhile now and it feels like he's just waiting for her. And like maybe he feels Yuki needs him more than Sakura does. If I was in the friend group and knew all this I'd figure Sakura would bounce back. Given how long Yuki has been giving up on what she wants I'd be seriously worried that she wouldn't. That she'd just keep spiraling if she didnt learn to go after what she wants

Yeah this was weird for me too because i did start shipping Sakura and Toru but that was mostly because I wanted to stop seeing Toru being hurt over Hori and Miya. I knew he got over it way before Sakura entered the picture but I guess, him being interested in someone else would somehow put a lid to that part of the narrative. Anyways, becuase Yuki has such been a great friend to everyone that I already love her and when it shifted to her POV, I also started rooting for her. And it feels just as conflicting as what she would have felt because Sakura's such a nice girl and she's been built up across a few episodes. This is why I don't like love triangles. Especially when everyone in it are a bunch of adorable and wholesome characters. But I'm actually somehow satisfied with the conclusion?
