Fun fact: Asato Asato originally wrote 86 as a short story for a local competition. This episode is how that story ends. However, the public reaction at the time was so overwhelmingly positive it convinced her to continue writing.

RIP Shin...? This is the end of part 1, we had to wait 4 months for part 2 back in the days.

Imagine having to wait months for the next episode as this originally aired as a split cour with a break in between parts 1 and 2. It was such a brutal stopping point before the break for us watching as it first aired lol So yeah...where do we go from here? Well there is Lena of course. But damn, what about our intrepid 5 from Spearhead? Us viewers just basically had broken hearts after this episode...with not a clue as to how the story will go on. I love Steph's stubbornness to accept what she saw and reject the idea that Shin is dead haha. Whereas Wes seemed to be more pragmatic and accepting of it. Awesome chemistry...it's almost like you're married or something lol

Ive only ever cried to 2 shows this episode with the letter and violet evergarden also with the letter from the mom to daughter i think a letter but be some kind of trigger LMAO

86 is my all time favorite war themed light novel. The first 3 volumes, which the anime adapts are a standalone masterpiece.

Counter Force

The .5 chapters are only compilations so no need to watch those. Also the second opening have A LOT of spoilers. So make sure to skip it. Ending is ok though.

This episode always gives me such 'Girls last tour' vibes it's crazy, hope it is an Anime we will see on this channel someday too! Really have to rewatch it >.< 86 is such a good show tho and the second opening is one of my favorite songs for a while now, it's in my playlist ever since i first saw and heard it. It will be such a bummer to see them skip it~

Post-apocalyptic settings are the best. Other than Girls’ Last Tour, “Touring After the Apocalypse” and “Heavenly Delusion” are also great animes about journeying in a post-apocalyptic world. And then you have Tatsuki’s the weirdly charming “Kemono Friends” and “Kemurikusa”. All are really underrated (at least outside Japan).

I like how you began the episode discussing that WW2 pilot and how some people handle Gs better than others and then Theo is in the episode complaining about the Gs of Shins machine! The novel specifies that 1/1000 of the 86 survive their first year on the battlefield. The spearhead squadron are all in their 4th or 5th year (because they need to be killed off before their "5-year conscription" is up). 20:25 Kaie planted those... You can see her watering the plants in the first 3 episodes and then after she dies the plants slowly start to wither over the following episodes.

I personally wouldn’t say second opening has “a lot” of spoilers. Should be fine after episode 14 I believe.

Just a heads up. Next episode is a special recap episode. so you don't need to watch it and should skip straight to episode 12. They just did this because they had a huge pause between ep 11 and 12 when 86 was originally airing.
