(Wall of text a-go-go, baby.) ...Whoa. The Patreon notices for this comic have had a lot of moments that really took me aback over the last month when I opened them, and that's often just from the textless, uncolored WIPs. This one was no exception. I hoped the next thing we saw would be of Vanessa and Rookie somehow. I also hoped that some of Rookie's plan was from telling Vanessa everything and she helped put the plan together... But seeing her like this made it pretty clear that no, she didn't. I can't exactly put myself in his shoes even though he's usually been the POV (and at first didn't even have a face or a voice), but this was yet another time I flinched. Just from the textless WIP, I can feel the "do you have any idea (how worried I was/what you could have done/that I could have helped too)" energy. Then I saw what I could only assume was a cigarette, now it definitely is (a lit one no less), and it sunk my spirit more. I hoped we wouldn't see her smoking again however the Mandy Saga went, and she was "starting to leave them" and quitting isn't an overnight thing...but despite it not being a big surprise, that hurts even more to know it stressed her out so much that she was back off the wagon. Now that there's words, I see how much she's been through in presumably less than a week. Seeing her acknowledge both her own eye bags and his, the feature of hers that we've focused on (and noted had been disappearing, but now they're back), is like her way of saying she knows how bad her life was and now she sees even worse in him. And...finally...we have his real name just to drive the last point home of how serious she is. I'm sure this will work out when he's explained everything, but time to show their relationship is really meant to last a lifetime. Last thought: Yet again, as amazing as her body is, her best feature continues to be her eyes and how they alone say so much about her.

Damn, hearing her say that his eyebags are worse than hers, seeing how she's been through the motions... and to find out that the resignation was real after all... it hurts to read. Side note: I've always resonated with this comic more than any other, mainly cause I can relate to rookie a lot on a personal level... and to find out his name is Alex, which is also my name, really makes me appreciate it even more. I know that's obviously not gonna be the case for everyone else, but it makes it more special to me. That's why I really hope this comic has the best ending we've ever seen, cause I think these two are the best characters we've ever seen.
