No worries! Take your time

It's-a me, Mario! In the year 2002 I saw a deer stand up on it's hindlegs and scream like a human. Mama Mia!!

hello hazelfromanime and maefromarmuta. this video made me lose my mind the moment I realized what was going on. absolutely loved it. what's the funniest creepypasta that genuinely scared you? bonus points if it's obscure! I once found a hampster dance creepypasta that shook me to my core. I was so scared I needed to have my mom come in and watch over me while sleeping and hold my foot. also the mario 3 gore fetish creepypasta

Powercell Zeke

This was easily in my top 3 videos from you, I thought it was brilliant! Simple question, but I noticed some footage from American McGee's Alice, and was just wondering what either of your thoughts are on those games? They're some of my favourites :)

somefeatures

did you have any particular vision for coming up with good fake usernames for this video? because "somefeaster" terrified me to my core... (and those incredibly well-observed minor details always elevate an already incredible bit. fantastic work :D)

PsiFae

bit spoiler-y, but could we please get more Hazel horror reads/creative writing? I legit got chills from that bit! >w<

a bit of viscera

this video was crazy and i shouldve caught on what it was the moment i tried searching online for the SHARETHIS image used in the video but came up with nothing. this question is kind of hard to articulate, but were the any other fake “off-brand” creepypastas considered for this video?

galoom

completely and utterly unrelated question to the video but have you ever seen any of shunji iwais movies? if not i very much recommend definitely my favourite director

Jordan Dotson

My partner and I just watched this and it felt like witnessing a feat of professional magic.

Will Ahern

Local Minnesotan living in Ramsey county checking in. The Peeker bit was superb. The caving blog was a dead give away but man was this video top tier. That said how can I get these foot prints out of my carpet? Dang things won’t come out. Keep up the great work!

Kitty ( The cursed existence of financial instability ) fo

Thanks for this video, it was interesting. I remember watching Marble Hornets and believing that Slenderman was real. question : have you ever thought of writing your own creepy pasta and seeing if the internet would run away with it?

Alexandria Cina-Bernard

Wow! As a Minnesotan watching this in my bedroom at night with my smoke detector blinking a single orange light in the dark, I was thoroughly creeped out, and grinning ear to ear at how much fun I was having being creeped out! I 100% was sure I had heard of the peeker before! Like, when you mentioned details about it, I was thinking "oh yeah, I think I remember hearing that before." Seriously, good job 😁

the wickedly talented adele dazeem

For the transition around the 22 minute mark, the fade to black focuses on the jimmyspokes profile picture and the Pokemon website mymountingsacrifies dot org. Was that a sort of tribute to ARG websites and Easter eggs? Because I did try to type in the website address myself and see if there was more hidden inside the video - I even tried to read the pfp with a QR code scanner (that was after seeing the ending twist and rewatching that section). I think I may have read too much into it, since I loved the Creepypasta meta-narrative.

Danmaku Poser

Hi Hazel, Mae and maybe Alyssa! This video was such a curveball in the best way and I really can't get over what a refreshing, electric work of art it was. I was heated at first because as someone with a weak stomach for horror, I only ever admired creepypasta from afar so I fell for The Trick hook, line and sinker. After rewatching the video and the "explained" bonus video though, it's clear that the hook of the video didn't come from a place of "haha, pranked you!" but rather a wild, creative joy that really shows through in the final product. Hats off to everyone involved. Possibly the best video on the channel and definitely the one that made me smile the most. OK, I have a question for Alyssa if she's there. In the bonus video, Mae mentions that the final version of Gabbit Rabbit came from her mishearing your rundown of the story, and that the original version didn't feature a mother character. Since the mom feels so central to the final version, I'm very curious as to what the original story was, in as much detail as you're comfortable with in case you still have plans for Gabbit Rabbit. (If Alyssa's not there or doesn't want to answer, Hazel, have you gotten to do anything cool with your new scanner since the Lucky Star video?)

this video found me in my "2 months straight trying to come up with clever idea for metafictional text-quest/dialogue-article, while always thinking of Nabokov's pale fire", and all i just want to say THIS IS SO FUCKING GREAT, i'm fully astonished, video was so clever, sounding so real, giving details about real creepypastas but not mentioning them (also because of my russian native language, knowntome creepypastas were somewhat different), i was completely sold on this stories and only in the middle of missing case i understood, that something is completely wrong with this narrative. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are both geniuses, hope this video will find it's fully deserved acclamation

Anonymous

For the question, I will maybe ask to tell about some your favourite meta-ish creepypastas/just pastas/novels, maybe intertwined in internet context (like Lain was, for example)

Vivifrombackhome

Hello! Just wanted to say I’m genuinely floored by this and I’m really happy that you’re making videos like this, there so expertly done and tapped straight into the weird collective online adolescence took me right back to when I tried to convince my friends I met herobrine. (They didn’t believe me at all but I kept pushing it)Really excited to see what comes next anyway I was wondering what your favourite part of this videos was to make, the Thor stitches rap was great and I loved the gabbit rabbits stuff

yolko

Great video! I've yet to watch the behind-the-scenes, so if the content is there, I will be happily redirected -- but do you have a list of the media you used in the video? (existing movies/tv I mean.) And pound for pound, what's each of your favorite creepypasta-vibes movie?

Shane

One question for Mrs. Hazel McDougal: 1) I am 1 year into learning piano and I was curious how you learned music, progressed towards writing songs and just got so damn good at guitar and production. Did you take classes? Did you have a mentor? Was it all self directed study? One question for all: 2) Do you think boring (non-pejorative) media can be competitive with the typical, hyper-stimulating content on streaming/social media sites?

Vaikus

Some of this video really reminded me of "In the Mouth of Madness" by John Carpenter. I know this was supposed to be a send up of horror on the internet but did any movies play a large part in forming the ideas for this video? Besides pulse lol

baudtack

Not gonna lie, I 100% got got by this video and i loved it. I just wanted to say thanks for making a beautiful piece of art.

Rose124

Hey Hazel. long time viewer, first time patron. I'm not quite sure what to ask here so I'll just ask your opinions on the pikmin franchise. Ngl you kinda give off huge pikmin vibes.

Elijah Sadiky

Hey Hazel and Mae (and maybe Alyssa). I wanted to just say I appreciated all the details in the visuals for the video, with like the fake websites and forum posts. I kept pausing to read the comments and the like when they appeared on screen. Anyways, after seeing the myhouse.wad footage, I was wondering if either of yall had any thoughts on House of Leaves, or like the genre of meta-fiction as a whole?

logan

Hey, this video rocked, it hit like a fucking truck and I loved it. I’ve also been listening to the Smiling Broadly EP and I was wondering if you could share any of your songwriting process?

Kyle J Javelli

Love the vid Hazel! One of my favorite forms of comedy is to fake intimate fandom knowledge with made up names. Seeing this used for horror instead completely enraptured me. You video got me thinking about horror trends across generations. From post satanic-panic urban legends, to early internet creepypasta, and now the current trend of malicious mascots (think Five Nights, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Poppy Playtime). For all generations its often about an innocent thing causing harm. What is it about this that captures the interest of young adults and how is this current trend is different than previous ones?

Katherine Nelson

the peaker really got me -- i used to be terrified of the rake and after watching your video, i lay awake in my bed staring at the bright red light next to the power button on the crt television on top of my dresser. i'm going to finish watching the explained video and then rewatch the original video, it's such genius creative work! i'm so genuinely blown away by this work, it's really inspiring. straight up, THIS is peak youtube. literally just before i watched it, i watched strange aeon's new video discussing creepypasta as folklore. this brings me to my question: do you think that due to the very imaginary, intangible nature of creepypastas, are these even "fake"? is it the widespreadness of a creepypasta that makes it legit?

Maverick

I’m glad to hear y’all had fun with this one! I was always an easy to scare kid so I never dwelled too much in creepypasta but I remember the phenomenon of Ben drowned being the moment where I at least knew this would stick with me in terms of how life online could just exist without any additional assertion of claims. I still haven’t seen the videos themselves despite knowing it’s all fiction, it’s sort of my way to honor the vision and totally not because I’m a scaredy cat who hates jumpscares I know you made use of myhouse.wad footage for part of this video and was curious if you had a chance to explore the Mario 64 B3313 hack? You made mention of the Mario personalization trend and I wondered if you had any chance to experience the hack since it seems like a very loving recreation of those snippets of hearsay and rumor milling over the years.

DaphneBlue

Absolutely loved this video. Also loved the fact that you called in LITERALLY the whole squad as collaborators. I do hope you’re taking care of yourself with all these videos dropping in quick succession. Stay safe! I was never a creepypasta girly, so I had no idea these were fake, but as soon as I saw Coffee with Egyptian Tomb Painting levels of eyeliner trying and failing to hide his accent I knew you were fucking with us. My question is: How the hell do you and all of your friends know each other? You all live in such different parts of the country and for some, the world, how did y’all end up forming the HazelCoffeeThorMaeDem+Friends Cinematic Universe?

Nick Ostrem

This video ruled, it was a topic I knew just enough about to be excited but not so much that I knew what was going on until you pulled back the curtain, it was very gripping. Also thanks for turning me onto Krick’s videos which hit a similar note, especially for a longtime Pokémon nerd. On that note, aside from the obvious winner (any gen 1 Pokémon game) what is the most likely game cart/disc to be haunted?

Tom

In keeping with the spooky mood, are there any Washington cryptids or (as some may be better described) near cryptids that have particularly caught your attention? I'm sure you have recently heard of a particular dead sturgeon of considerable size that has washed up on Lake Washington. I think it makes the story of the Tacoma Narrows bridge giant octopus more interesting. The Puget Sound almost 1000 feet deep after all.

Leland Goodman

Seriously amazing work, y'all. I wanted to share the experience I had watching this video real quick: when I saw the YouTube notification, I immediately went to download it for my flight back to LA from the east coast. I was in the far back of the plane where everyone had closed their window shades, so I was sitting in darkness, being periodically jostled by turbulence, watching the video and thinking to myself “dang do I remember ANY of these creepypastas?? I thought I was at least a little familiar with the culture but I guess I missed out on a ton of stuff?” Just as I was starting to piece together the story of the video— literally at the 59 minute mark when the video cuts to black, I instinctively went to open the comments— —and for the first time I was greeted with no video description, no comments, no icon next to the hazel username— it was all just black. Because I didn’t have wifi, obviously!!! But this was also the first time I’d ever even downloaded a YouTube video, so my brain was FULLY unprepared to be confronted with just… a void. I don’t think I’ve been internet-spooked like that in a very long time, and I feel lucky to have gotten such a specially catered viewing. (I took a screenshot because the moment was too good, hope this link works!) https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/dlz6qr1cm4z8vsvj6k8io/2023-10-04-15.26.13.png?rlkey=39cq5w5l7xs53x2hj8jbyg6ug&dl=0

Sean

Fantastic job. Loved the pay off at the end, and how slowly it built up to it. It was like I was a fog not being aware of the water around me slowly coming to boil. I'm sorry if this is somewhere already that I've missed, but what is the film you sho frequently at the start of the video?

Fran O'Farrell

Phenomenal phenomenal phenomenal!!! What a fun few days of sitting with this and the explainer video and the gmod stream, truly cutting edge stuff lol I'm curious if y'all've seen "We're All Going to the World's Fair"? I feel like it is absolutely barking up a similar tree, even though it's fully film and not talking about creepypasta with the form of creepypasta itself. I saw it recently and really loved it, gave me a lot to chew on

Isla van der vliet

Great video as always! In it there is a reference to the gmod stream. Are there any other pieces of horror that uses Internet specific mediums like that did? (Watched it, loved it, now feverishly looking for more)

Bean

I physically cannot stop thinking about this video, you guys are incredible!! I keep oscillating between wanting to tell everyone I know about it and begging them to watch it blindly. Anyway, you guys both seriously have a gift for horror writing, do you write fiction regularly or was this more of a one off thing? Apologies if you’ve answered this before. (Gabbit Rabbit has my whole heart and I will forever be upset that it’s not a real game.)

DeCoster_Makes_Dating_Sims

Hey this ruled, big fan of both this and the companion video. Wondering what your thoughts are on "internet horror" making it's way into feature length films, whether it's by way of incorporating popular tropes and visual motifs i.e. Skinnamarink or creators essentially remaking their earlier YouTube work as film i.e. the upcoming Backrooms movie (and I guess also Skinnamarink).

Hymncat

This video was a testament of the ways I'm liable to turn my brain off lol. Let's say, hypothetically, you are now contractually obligated to make Hazel YouTube merch that must be recognizable as such. How do you approach making things like tshirts and stickers that are recognizably "hazel anime" to knowers but without the baggage of, like, hyper specific gaming YouTuber merch, if you know what I mean?

boetology

Hey, I've been a subscriber for a year or two and really enjoy your conent, but have less time to keep with your content lately. I did want to let you know that the offhand commentary your provide on your music has inspired me to pursue Ableton seriously for myself. / Somewhat related to this, can you reccomend a an affordable digital camera to use in Twtich streaming? And do you have any advice for live streaming generally?

Sophia

Loved the video! I genuinely didn’t see that twist coming. I was never a creepy pasta girl so my knowledge being at 0 I was like ya these make sense. Good job guys! Watching the video though I was like oh that’s why the song on smiling broadly is called John Fenith, it was a creepy pasta thing. But then you said everything was fake. So I’m curious Hazel, where does the song name John Fenith come from? Is it actually a creepy pasta thing even if you guys made up everything else up?

Elias Rosner

I'm very mad at share.jpg. That image is gonna haunt me at 3am for the rest of the week. Loved the video. You two had me nearly the whole time even if I knew you were doing SOME kind of bit regarding the big pastas. I did want to know what your actual thoughts on the punchline-ification of some pastas were. Like, I can't think of man-hook-car-hand-door (which I know does predate the format by decades) or who was phone? without laughing now. Or is that tension between the absurd, the silly, and the scary just baked into the format (or all horror, really).

Elias Rosner

Follow up in a second post to make it easier to see. Why do you think horror babies like me still seek out horror media? Like I always loved to read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark even though I knew I would have nightmares about it but couldn't handle actual recitations by a campfire. Is there something just scarier about the aural aspect?

LucasBuilds

given the pokemon creepypasta (and because I'm watching the myhouse.wad vod and just got to the part about the 'how many days in a week' bodybuilding forum argument), I have to ask: have y'all ever experienced the iconic Yellowducky vs. Dudeskull forum argument (bc if not: http://www.rarityguide.com/forums/pokemon-center/4676-name-rater-eterna-city-refuses-change-my-duskulls-name-help.html)

PRodger

In the Explained Video, Mae says that she'll talk about an Imgur Album (I'm guessing the Gabbit Rabbit one) later, but then does not. Please could you talk about the Imgur Album.

PlatonPizza3000

i watched the video with someone who said absolutely nothing during it then burst out of laughter when jerma showed up for 5 seconds

Marie Emari

Hi Hazel and Mae and potentially Alyssa! If you had to choose one pokemon to replace with its Fool's Gold equivalent, which would be?

Zane

My suspension of disbelief held out quite a while despite knowing of a few of the Pastas parodied along the way. Warming to know that it was the potential blurred line on ethics that caused me to suspect it was a ruse. Super entertained the whole way through, surprisingly comfy vibes in between a few spooks. I suppose I'll take a horror themed opportunity to ask your opinion on AVGN's Polybius episode and if it may have had any inspirational effect besides the ones the video lists in the outro.

D3ZTRUCT0

Hey Hazel and friends :) this video was really cool, I love all the fun videos you and your friends make. This is unrelated so please forgive me and feel free to skip if it's out of place but will the smiling Broadly EP get a CD release maybe? The whole EP is so good (Puke is my favorite Track) I'd like to have a physical version! Take care and have a good rest of your year!

Violet Plumpkin

Hi! I made some fanart for the video! (I apologize for posting this in the questions thread, but I’m not sure where the community tab is now that Patreon has changed it’s layout & I don’t have twitter. I hope this is okay!) https://imgur.com/a/M51y

HazelYT

i thinkkkk this link got shortened, its not leading to anything. and yeah patreon community posts are completely broken for me, so im glad you posted here hahaha. thanks either way, looking forward to getting to see it LOL

Gahblaghle

What do you consider to be the ABSOLUTE LIMIT of rabbit-hole digging that you've reached in your time researching, writing, and producing your videos? Right now I'm trying to make a video about the origins of the homing attack and its development and I'm sincerely starting to consider hiring professional translation services to get some old-ass sega magazines translated for a CRUMB of information about the reasoning behind its creation and more

Alex

Hey guys! I discovered Hazel some time ago and became a huge fan of yours. I've seen just about everything you put out, but it wasn't until recently that I've started watching your live streams with Mae. Mainly I've watched the Sonic live streams but I also watched some of your Pokemon live streams as well. Pokemon really never was for me, but seeing you guys play it and referencing it in your Creepypasta video peaked my interest to check out the games. I do like JRPGS, and I want to venture into the classic Red and Blue games after I beat Chained Echoes here. Anyways... I actually produce my band and my singer and I have been doing this DIY approach for about 2 years now. We feel like we're getting better after each song we put out, but I'm really impressed with your music, especially from a production standpoint. How did you get so good at creating music? What's your history with music? Also, here's my band if you want to check it out. https://open.spotify.com/album/2FHn8nNItzsPHQXlxQR3ye

Potion Yeller

Hey, this is an unrelated question and its a bit hard for me to write it out but I'll try my best. Have you ever had a song that was immediately nostalgic on first listen? A song that immediately created the emotional sensation of your past that you can't really think about your life without that song somehow playing in the background? For me it was AM180 by Grandaddy, I remember I first listened to it during a vinesauce stream but somehow that song immediately hit me and reminded me of the times I was a little kid. Thank you, love you videos, sorry if this was a bit of an awkwardly worded question. PS: can't wait for the album when it comes out

sunfishdreamworld

Hi, Hazel! I just noticed you recently privated your video about Ookumo-chan. I know you get a lot of questions every time you private a video and you uploaded a short segment from one of your q&as explaining why, but I was wondering if privating a popular, but older video effects your channel in a negative way? I'm still kind of learning about YouTube in that way. Hope you and Alyssa and Mae and Wander and everyone else are doing well!

they should make larger fruits

hi hazel and mae! would you be opposed to someone editing together stream highlights and uploading those? totally get it if not, i just wanna send my friends my favorite bits without making them endure an 8 hour vod 😭

Sewing Savage

Hello Hazel! Looking forward to the obscure golf game video you've been teasing :) you've mentioned before that ribbit king wouldnt be featured in the video but I'm so curious what your thoughts are on it! Is it not golf-y enough? Or has my favorite gcn game truely become "mainstream" after all these years? Thanks for the time!

maedotmkv

incredibly late reply (hazel doesn't show me these questions LOL) but i think my general rule is i'm chill with anyone editing down our streams however they want. like as far as monetization if that's something that they can do, the benefits i would receive (more people seeing work i'm proud of) far outweighs the what i would get being closed off to that sort of thing. thanks for asking n even thinkin about it!

The Blue Quartz Dragon

Hi Hazel and Mae! This is a lot later than I expected to be putting this, but have you ever heard of Earth Seeker? I don't know much about the game, but just seeing the art for it, I need to own it. It's got a Made in Abyss sort of design style that I personally die for (weirdly steampunky with very soft details and lots of overgrowth). Just wanted to share my discovery! Also, thoughts on ICO? Hope y'all are doing well even through taking a break!

nolongang

hi hazel, mae, and possibly alyssa! one question for everyone, one question for hazel. 1.has there ever been a piece of creepypasta artwork that once frightened/unnerved you, only for it resurface as the butt of your jokes later in life? (hyper specific answers are more than welcomed) 2. hazel, would you be ok if i requested the satire youtuber tony zaret to briefly allude to the “ranking anime dennys” video? (frame of reference: 3:20-3:44 on his video “I PROPOSED”) no pressure ofc. i wouldn’t want to bring any unwanted attention, especially with your recent circumstances.

rainaScallion

i showed the creepypasta video my friends who write Internet fiction and they ADORE it, so i ask, what are your favorite bits of internet fiction out there?

LizardQueen 27

Don't even know if you're still taking questions, but on the off chance you are: Something about Gabbit Rabbit/Gather Rabbits that I can't put my finger on just sticks in my brain and I want to know if there's anything else you could share about why and how you made it that's not in the original explained video with mae? I know you mentioned Rule of Rose as a huge source of inspiration but do there happen to be any other games/movies/media in general that also inspired this? (I know I say "you" but this applies to you or Mae because I can't quite remember the specifics of who did what on the video that you discussed in the explained video)
