Batman Beyond Meltdown Reaction

I actually wanted to see you watch that "Golem" episode of Batman Beyond ya know. Also about Victor Fries, I believe he died a long time ago and who knows what happened to Nora ever since then.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode! I also wasn't a big fan of what they did with Freeze in The New Batman Adventures, so I really liked this episode too. I really enjoy when, instead of throwing out what doesn't work, creators reshape the ideas into something that does. Also I love that he's still got a thing for ice puns. "Just something I kept in cold storage." What a dork.

I don't mind that you skipped the last episode since I don't remember there being anything too memorable about it but this one I'm glad you didn't skip. I definitely consider this Mister Freeze's true ending compared to whatever they gave us in the New Batman Adventures when we first saw him as just a head with spider legs and they made him just a typical villain, despite what happen after the Sub Zero movie where Nora was cured and Victor went off into the night with the two polar bears. Though Bruce Timm was not involved in that movie and I don't think he knew what they did with Freeze in that movie and in turn didn't make it canon and that's why we ended up with the episode we got in the New Batman Adventures. As for Freeze having henchwomen, that was just a choice they made for the show in general as I believe some of the other characters had henchwomen too. I would think by 2039 when this series takes place that Nora Fries would be long dead, especially if were going by what happened at the end of Sub Zero when she was cured since even though there's no specific year for when BTAS and TNBA is, it's alluded to take place in the 90's/2000's since Bruce retired in 2019. It also makes sense for a 70 something year old Bruce to be cynical since he's been fighting crime for years and trying to rehabilitate his villains and criminals and to see them seemingly go back to villainy over and over again, it can be frustrating. I do like the reveal we got for Derek Powers as Blight. The glowing green radiation of his body stands out so much with the dark color palette of the show. I did like the little quote from Victor saying to Terry "Believe me, you're the only one who cares" I feel like he was saying that to both Batmen as only Batman has showed empathy towards Victor for what happened to him and his wife and tried to help him. Terry also showed that he cared for Victor so I took it as Victor saying that quote to Batman in general (basically to both Bruce and Terry). Because Bruce and Terry are Batman. Just like how Peter Parker and Miles Morales are Spider-Man. I also want to add cause you mentioned it during your discussion that Damian as a character doesn't exist at all in 1999 when this show was airing and wouldn't exist until the comics introduced him in 2006. It also wouldn't really make sense for Damian to be Batman if Bruce was still active as Batman into his 50s when retired. But I'm glad you're loving this show so far and I can't wait for you to get some of the others. Also a bit unrelated but I hope you'll react to the History of Doomsday, Shazam and Black Adam videos from Variant Comics at some point cause I'm curious to see what you think of their origins as I know you've been curious about them

Thoughts... First.... Great reaction.... Bruce's reaction to Freeze, and not trusting him so easily like Terry has nothing to do with his age or being cynical. It's called experience. The fact of the matter is Bruce trusts Victor very much to be himself than not to be himself, and that's why he had Terry to keep an eye on him. Freeze was never a villain for revenge. He only did things for money, and to find a cure for his wife. He didn't care who was in his way of those goals. As you seen in this episode though Terry got to see a normal side of Victor that Bruce never got to see, and that's why Bruce said "The Victor you seen was only a ghost..." Because it always took more than words to convince Bruce of anything. He judged you by your actions, and when Victor wanted to die, and froze himself off too save Batman so he could leave that's when Bruce was finally won over, and said "We both were right" Terry for a short time only got to see the "no I caused this man enough pain.. let him go" empathy normal body guy While Bruce only got to see who kidnapped Barbara so his wife could have her body instead amongst other things lol. By the way... Yes that female doctor or scientist that he froze IS dead lol "it will only hurt for a moment" imagine hearing that as your last words... 😂 I don't feel sorry for her at all lol. By the way many Batman villains have had close to death endings... How many times did we see clayface, the joker, and killer crock come back after we seen them in different episodes before appeared to have died if they wasn't captured. So, why would Mr. Freeze in the new batman tas be such a surprise that he's returned? 😂 I don't know maybe you thought his ending in the movie was beautiful or something, but I also love the wrap up they've done here as well 🙂

A fittingly frosty farewell for Victor Freeze. Villain redemption episodes are always interesting watching, and this is no exception despite being a different show. Of course they rarely ever end well for them either. He was on his way until Powers and Lake betrayed him. Seems to be forever Victor's lot in life to be screwed over by the businessman. I can relate now more than ever. Interesting time to properly introduce Derek Powers as Blight, countering Freeze's power.
