Pearl: “Several Humans, Monkeys and a Dog made it to space before.” Yeaaah…? But some of them DIED there (including the Dog, sadly) because the safety or plan to even return at all got really iffy. I don’t think Pearl really considered this when planning to take Steven with her (Gems can survive in the vacuum).

Look, Greg is definitely not the brightest and letting his kid go town that slope was very dangerous which worst case scenario could lead to a broken bone, But it's a whole different thing to let his kid go to space, explode, implode or lost in the infinite void of space until the end of the cosmos. He's not very responsible but Even he knew that was dangerous enough to put his foot down.

They know he's weaker, and they really need to protect him, but they also let him get away with waaaay too much danger.
