INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Errolowl

Oh yeah, another movie I can quip along to without needing to have my own copy playing!

James Forrest

God damn guys! You are just KILLING IT right now :) Some amazing choices these past few weeks and months. Superb content and coming at a great pace. I loved the Scream playthrough; I am sure I'll enjoy this too!

Taylor Wright

Have either of you seen Mimic(1997) that and Species (1995) bith launched multi movie series and now they are basically forgotten altogether.

Ryan Liechty

OMG YES!! I love this movie so much, and so many great actors in it!! Can’t wait to watch your reaction to this one!!

Ludus Aurea

This was Emmerichs movie after stargate and I think dean devlin also worked on it. Classic 90s cinema.

Melissa Creel

This movie still holds the record(last time I checked) for using the most miniatures. The White House scene that explodes and takes out the helicopter is all practical. It was built to 1:24 scale and was 14 ft wide and was made of plaster. They positioned explosives through the model to make the shot. Still looks great.

Hi Ari & Denise 🧡 You Both sure know How to Pick them .. another GREAT Movie 🎬 to React too., one of MY., Favorites, I, Have to say .. it's going to Be FUN, Watching it with You too. I apologize if that was the Case... 🌻

I'd love for someone to watch Mimic. Idk about the sequels, but I still throw watch it every now and then. Mimic, Pumpkinhead, Cujo etc are on my roster every spooky season.

Taylor Wright

Also, Relic. Its horrible effects, and zero adherence to the source novels, but still a guilty comfort horror movie.

Mike Jenson

Very clever using the mores code to announce Aliens and this movie. Fun fact. This movie had full support of the military and they were going to use actual fighters for some of it until they got to the Area 51 part. The military said it had to be cut but since it was a key part of the plot and the director said no, and they lost all military support then. But it still has one of the best speeches in cinema in my opinion.

RabidMango

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you announcing the particular version you're lining up. I'm all diggin' through the comments nervous about lining up the wrong one and started the open where you make it clear it's theatrical. Sounds good. Let's go!

Wallace Taylor

Starsky & hutch, RED 1&2, and white men can’t jump (1992)

Randy

you have to watch Armageddon after Independence Day, it's a rule.

Michael G. Munz

As a Star Trek fan who saw this in the theater, I was so freaking jazzed to see Brent Spiner as the Area 51 scientist.

Ender

That was really fun! Please react to Independence day resurgence next! It is a movie with a more negative response but i’m curious what you guys think of it

Don Britt

"Is that....a spaceship?!" Oh so you guys for REAL don't know anything about this movie? I can't tell you how much more excited than I already was I am to watch this with you guys.

Helion

Fun fact. Those big explosions in the city were NOT CGI. They were all practical effects. They made the city model and placed it vertically with a flamethrower at the base. They filmed the whole thing at high framerates to have it in slow motion.

Valarie Stewart

Most epic speech ever given in a movie - EVER!

WhiteWolf

When i first watched this in the cinema I was really in awe of it's SFX, and the acting made the movie feel very serious and exciting, But the last 15 mins or so, I think it really lost that, IMO a great movie was ruined by very silly acting and jokes near the end, and too light hearted when the final battle started. And the OTT celebrations that only one country was responsible for the ending.

HerpMcDerp

That pre-battle speech just hypes you up every single time.

Linda Thackeray

One interesting fact which may or may not have been already mentioned here, is that there is a deleted scene in the film that made it to the novelisation where all our computer tech was based off what was gleaned from the alien ship in Roswell being the reason why David Levinson was able to interface with the alien mothership.

Tatiana Ferreira

President Whitmore is such a badass. And that speech gets me every time! I wish we had presidents like this in real life. 😄

Stephen Caveney

After seeing this in cinema many years ago, I took my nephew and his friends for his 15th birthday, I remember after The presidents speech, i leapt out my shouting at the top of my voice "Give me a plane and I'll help you". Such a great movie.🤘🤘

lizzy rappy

we (me and my mom) loved this reaction:)! denise has the CUTEST laugh throughout this movie and you guys looked so positive and intrigued while watching!!! such a good/ classic movie! denise was glowing in this video looking so gorgeous! love you bothhhh!

Alice Devilman

Fun alternative fact: The alien that Cpt. Hiller downs and then hits in the face was played by Chris Rock. #Foreshadowing

Laurie Lioux

Contact with Jodi Foster is another good one dealing with alien first contact. I think you guys would enjoy it.

Daniel Karlsson

Indepence Day is an old-school blockbuster. Yes, some of the effects are dated. Yes, there are some tropes. Do we get the obvious Hollywood ending? Yes. Does any of these things matter? No, they do not. Everyone is likeable (Goldblum owns, but then again he always does) and we as an audience care enough to hope for the best. I think Pullman is quite underrated here, he is way more nuanced than you would expect. Randy Quaid is classicly silly, but the people close to his character give us the depth of the character and makes him more endearing then he might deserve. Honestly, the character I feel could have been reduced is the Will Smith character. He is good, but the character was not needed and could easily have been cut to make the ensemble more balanced. However, Will Smith was by far the biggest money-maker on this film and it probably boosted sales quite a bit. Emmerich very skillfully gives us enough humanity, personality and epicness at the same time (much the same as he managed in Day After Tomorrow). I also like that we don't get too much of the aliens. Sure, we know enough about them to realise they want to destroy us, but we don't really need to know their backstory besides this. They are supposed to just be evil and they are. Sometimes the cleverness of the writing is not giving too much information. Sure, overall, the film suffers from too many 90s one-liners, but then again, those were the times and it is suitable in context. The effects are ok by todays standards, I've seen worse in newer films than this. At the time they were state of the art and the first time I saw this it was incredible. To give a full commentary, it is a fun blockbuster with a sci-fi twist. You should at least see it once in your life, even though it most likely won't change your life. Now, speaking of galactic invasions, you really should check out: Mars Attacks (1996) Arrival (2016) Two completely different movies, but both with excellent takes on the invasion from outer space concept.

Ethan Kayne

This movie still holds up. Got to be honest and the presidential speech gives me chills every time. Have you guys ever thought about reacting to Reign of Fire with Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey. Another post-apocalyptic mess where the premise is what if Dragons Were scientifically real. I found it largely enjoyable. Also I hope you guys do Star Trek movies. The Chris Pine ones were visually stunning and chock full of nostalgia. I hope you guys add that to your list. And speaking of the dynamic between Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum as a kind of an Odd Couple pairing you should check out The hitman's Bodyguard if you haven't already. Sam Jackson is paired with Ryan Reynolds and it is an Odd Couple Adventure that doesn't lose momentum from start to finish. Genuinely hope you guys do that one
