CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (1977) THEATRICAL VERSION FULL LENGTH REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Andrew Roach

I saw this and Star Wars and my favorite James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (with a set so epic your jaw dropped when you saw it) in the summer of 1977. Spielberg's next film was perhaps his only failure of his early career: 1941. Written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale who would go on to their own fame, 1941 was basically a movie of epic destruction following Pearl Harbor and the paranoia that gripped California right after that fearing Japanese attack. The cast was huge, the effects spectacular and the score by John Williams is frankly one of his best but all for naught as the movie failed to connect with people, and understandably so (even though I like it) because it really was just mindless destruction.
