POSEIDON (2006) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Purple Cowboy

Throughout this movie I was thinking about the actual disaster that occurred on September 28, 1994, when the M/S Estonia sank in the Baltic Sea, killing 852 people (only 137 people were rescued). (I’ll leave a link of an English article about it at the end). I only have 2 fears (that can happen IRL) that I can’t handle 1. tight spaces where I can’t move (like getting stuck in a pipe or smth) and 2. DROWNING.. My heart rate was so high throughout this movie because I was just imagining the people on “Estonia” having most likely similar experiences (not the action ones, but being trapped/drowning etc.) and some of it felt so real. Compared to like Titanic, M/S Estonia sank in leas than 1 hour!! The link below feels like the inspiration to this movie, although I know it’s not. https://ctif.org/news/30-years-have-passed-bow-detached-estonia-ferry-852-people-drowned-less-one-hour

Here is a chilling trailer of the documentary of the disaster, it shows a few clips of the interviews of the survivors (they’ve also made a TV series about it). https://youtu.be/rOxNj4ylB1Q?si=O_7b8LWoZ50DBRTI

Since you'll be watching this and The Poseidon Adventure, may I recommend you follow it up with a hoot of a movie called Deep Rising, which is like this but with the added element of sea monsters and Famke Janssen. It's also directed by Stephen Sommers, who directed The Mummy! Cheesy fun. I highly recommend!!

DEEP RISING .. a AWESOME Choice, Hopefully Ari & Denise choose to React to it & If so, they should also, consider Reacting to VIRUS (1999) with Jamie Lee Curtis & Donald Sutherland (RIP, a True Acting Legend) .. another FUN Ride ‼️

Yeah I totally hear you guys about the underwhelming character development and ultimate payoffs for key character arcs and moments! Like the casting is actually pretty damn solid and the chemistry of the cast is incredible... so it's a crying shame they dropped the ball so freakin' hard on exploring the characters on deeper levels so we could both care for and sympathize with them more! Kurt Russel is amazing as always and he definitely has some hard hitting moments and great interactions with his daughter and her boyfriend in the film, I just wish we got those payoffs like you guys said! Overall I enjoyed the sequence of events, extreme tension under pressure (the film is stressful lol), and the dynamic problem-solving on the fly but the writing and characterization definitely fell short! The character who was in the navy was amazing here and always love seeing Emmy Rossum... she's such a charming, feminine, and graceful actress that really sells her roles!
