THE BATMAN (2022) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION – WATCH ALONG

Comments

I went into this with great hesitation. I heard R Pats wasn't going to work out to get the Batman body among a few other rumors. So I was like "I dunno" going into the movie for the first time, but in the end, it's a solid film. But I mean, when you have Gollum as Alfred, it's a W already. And now, the obligatory meme. Does he know!? HE DOESN'T KNOW!! I did NOT pick up on Colin Farrell being Penguin until I saw the credits though and had to rewind immediately. That was one hell of a makeup job they did. He must have been in the chair for hours.

"Alfred, stop. You're not my father" is one of the most painful lines in the entire movie. Bruce, he's not your bio dad, but he's the man what raised you. That's close enough in my book.

The biggest complaint I always hear about this Batman is that he's basically an emo kid when he's Bruce Wayne. I think those people just assume that "emo kid" is going to be the interpretation of Bruce Wayne for the whole series. I dpmn don't understand that this is the beginning of an arc

Completely see the correlation with Seven and similar murky, dark noirs. Even though I do enjoy most Batman-iterations, this film (and the animated series) probably captures the base of Batman the most. Yes, he is a larger than life character, but most of the comics best adventures are actually a lot more down to earth and more human than any other caped hero. This movie gets that to a much higher degree than what we are used to these days and I highly appreciate that. Like you guys, I also love the fact that it is way more of a detective story than any Bat-film has before. The slower tempo and the uneasy feel of Gotham in general are well done and make the whole feel of the movie. Looking forward to the sequel (something I rarely say)! Some other cool detective stories worth checking out: Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Lucky Number Slevin (2006) A Scanner Darkly (2006) Memento (2000) The Name of the Rose (1986) A Touch of Evil (1958) The Maltese Falcon (1941) Surrogates (2009) From Hell (2001) Inside Man (2006) LA Confidential (1997) Chinatown (1974) Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) The Bone Collector (1999)

I'm not a big Batman fan, even tho I've seen all the iterations of him over the years - even Adam West - but this is by far my favorite. I really like the early career Batman, who still hasn't figured out the physical part of Batman, but that doesn't matter much here. It's about his detective skills. I've never seen them use that aspect of the character to this degree until now. They touched on it some in the Bale films, but they were still in a more heightened reality than this world. I know people complained about Zoe as Selina for whatever range of stupid reasons, but I honestly liked her a lot. If they can get her outfit to the next level for Cat woman, should be even better in the next one. You guys commented alot on how scary this version of the Riddler is. At one point, I think it was Ari, likened him to a serial killer. They based this Riddler on the Zodiac Killer. The question mark they use a lot in this movie is based on the symbol Zodiac used as a signature on his numerous letters to police and media over the years. And always opened his communicationa with "This is the Zodiac speaking". Riddler does this at the beginning, when they show his video of Savages murder. Dano based his Riddler voice on an actual recording of Zodiac when he called the Blue Rock Springs police department in 1969, to report his attacks - and killing on Darlene's part - on Michael Mageau and Darlene Ferrin. The weird voices inflections, the heavy breathing and he ended the call with an extremely unsettling way of saying "Gooooood byyyyye", which Riddler used numerous times in this movie. Ugh. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. BTW , I highly recommend the 2007 David Fincher film Zodiac, but do not take it as a fact as to who Zodiac was. I enjoy it for exploring the crimes and the way it impacts the public over time rather than the narrative Robert Greysmith - author of the book it's based on - continues to push to this day, even tho there is a lot of evidence to discount his suspect. If you didn't gather from this long aside, I'm VERY interested in the Zodiac Killer case. I've read books and watched documentaries on it for 30 years now. Lastly, the shot Bruce gave himself when he went after the guy attacking Selina, I've seen a very cool theory it mightve been the same serum Bane uses to give himself greater strength, since it's cleary a GREEN liquid. Adrenaline isn't gonna make you punch like Bruce was when he was going ham on that dude. Just a theory I've seen but I like to believe maybe that's what it was. I hate we have to wait til 2027 for part 2. 😕 And I'd enjoy a Penguin reaction. I actually need to finish the show. I just saw the first episode and that was it.

Coming here to say that this is my favorite iteration of the Batman so far and I really enjoyed your guy’s commentary! Also, please, please, PLEASE do the Penguin series. I think the writing is some of the best I’ve seen as of late and it’s a really great character study. It brings so much life and depth to Gotham as well! An overall must watch!
