Finally getting the mentorship he was offered was a treat. However, I admittedly was looking forward to some wholesome family conversations that were teased last chapter. Oh well. Quick question, do you know what the in-universe calendar year is? We got some official dates last chapter so I was hoping to contextualise everything.

I'm seeing a pattern of Kai being clueless about how people will act under certain conditions. Maybe a social skill would be advisable? They've worked wonders for Valela, Rain, and Flynn.

It will probably be Matt doing everything his way and not how a normal mage does things.. because - super maneuverable spellsword… I think he’ll get auto passed out of this class or if the prof is a restrictive mentality it’ll be a conflictive course - not sure which way this’ll go.

I think he should drop beast bonds and & familiars, he knows what Hobbes is and he’s not willing to give the teachers that knowledge, what can he really learn that he isn’t going to pick up on his own especially with enhanced fate sharing with Hobbes…

I'm hoping sufficient Mnemonic Mastery will let him learn social etiquette by rote. Kia's hidden charisma stat has always been lacking and he really doesn't have the space in his build to grab the multiple skill's he'd need to handle noble society as anything but an outsider.

It depends on how much he edited it. If he's only losing the handful of points he earned from starting at Red 1 rather then his cover identity of orange 1 then his favor is lower but still relatively accurate. If he cut in in half to make himself seem 'more normal' than I agree with you 100% lol just reread it. He did halve his favore. Come on Kia, be better than that.

He can learn how the normals do it. He knows basically nothing so there should be a lot of low hanging fruit. Like, maybe familiars can learn to speak with a few simple tricks or it's important to spend at least an hour today together so the magic in the bond can grow etc

I'm curious.... why edit the name of his profession? His fake persona is still from the Islands... so that shouldn't set off any red flags? Or is he trying to hide how favoured he is by the gods? I guess the halving of Favour would also be done to hide that too... not sure why though?

I'm not a fan of not showing his favor in the page, his favor is a very important aspect of his build so not telling his advisor is pointless with all the soul secrecy clauses

I also do not like him hiding his favor. His danger skills relies on it, without the favor people assume its garbage and will tell him to remove it. The favor seems less secret than his profession skills.

Kai's Profession is not just rare, it's unique. The 'Favored' part certainly does not help since he is still trying to hide that. Granted his Profession skills and Hallowed Intuition (highest General skill) will give those away as bullshit.

Sure, but blessed by one god is uncommon but not surprising for an academy student. Blessed by 3 gods is almost unheard of.

I would have at least expected some interference between hallowed intuition and the contract's wording, clauses etcetera. This can't be all good.

Applications of Water Magic - Adept: Stays. I figure this is another course he can ace and test out of quickly. If not, it means it is useful for one of his three main affinities. Applications of Nature Magic - Adept: same as above. Applications of Earth Magic - Adept: Earth magic is in a strange limbo; it's high, but Kai barely uses it for anything. This course can reveal aspects Kai hasn't thought of yet, or maybe he shifts to a metal affinity. It staying really depends on how much he wants to keep other courses. Applications of Shadow Magic - Adept: Probably stays. Herbal Alchemy - Novice: Stays: With how much it has stagnated, if Kai drops this course, he might as well drop Alchemy and Herbalism. That is an obvious no-go with the powerful synergies with his nature magic and boon. All of which have, again, been stagnating. Words of Power - Introductory: Drops. It might be useful for an extra jolt for his magic in a pinch, but without a dedicated skill slot, I am not seeing this skill going far. Beast Bonds & Familiar: Drops. Considering how disappointing the introductory course was, and guessing the same lecturer will teach it, I don't see how Kai has any hope of significant gains here. Arcane Physiology & Phenomena: Drops. Mixed Sparring and Battle Strategy - Novice: Stays. Great opportunity for Kai to flex on everyone else. Good way to stay sharp. I'm guessing he'll be bumped up to adept or higher after the first sparring session. Fundamentals of Scrying and Fate Reading: Probably drops. It will be hard to excuse keeping it with his favor halved. In general, as a storytelling tool, fate really isn't something you want to lean into more than this story already does.
