I personally hope that Kai doesn't hide his special abilities. If he doesn't show them what he can do, then he's never gonna learn anything new about space magic. I know he doesn't want to reveal what he can do tho so idk what he'll do

Praying he doesn’t hide his skills too much. I get why he does it but it’s horribly boring to read if he’s too low key. He doesn’t need to be the protag of solo leveling but no one reads prog fantasy to read an average MC.

Seeing some of the other comments and I think I disagree with them that Kai should show off more. That would just drag him into patrician schemes and power games that could have been avoided. Besides, he very clearly does not want attention and is only trying to learn and hang out with his friends. Anything else would require ignoring Kai's own choices and agency.

I wonder how long we'll play the "I must hide my skills but get exposed and everyone acts shocked" card. I know it's amusing, but at this point I'd rather have "Kai the respected academic" rather than more young masters being made fun of. Hoping that, at least in this more mature class where people have been humbled from the difficulty of space magic, we get more of that vibe.

Since it seems the thing to do, I guess I'll throw my two cents in. I think Kai is right to not show most of what he is capable of to the student body in general, though I do think he should share more his the people in his direct social circle, to varying degrees. When it comes to the faculty of the school, I think he should be realizing that there's at least a few that he needs to be honest with. Thats either because he needs their help to make the most of his time at the school, or because they could likely find out anyways, and it could may cause him problems if they take it as a slight. Of course, there's always some people he can afford to offend others where it isn't worth the risk.

Kai has some form of protection with all his connections and even the subtle non answer of potentially being sponsored by a great house according to rumors. Probably better for him to stand out at this point as it looks more suspicious in some ways if he keeps trying to hide large parts of himself.

Also random thought. Kai provided a fake profession to Jolene. What did he call it? Also why did he lie about his luck status? She is bound in perpetuity to remain silent about that so why lie?

Called out again. He cannot keep a low profile! My guess is that that he will try to under sell his skill but the dean will see through it. Might even get personal lessons where he doesn't have to hold back. That would probably come with strings attached though

I wonder if they will say his space casting is unorthodox even though it's effective. Likely the exercises they do are all new to him, so he'll probably be able to learn and lot and gain levels quickly like in his other elemental classes

If Kai sandbags his ability I expect the dean to attack him between classes to induce him to blink/move. The surprise will be Kai blinking in to attack and you get a new butler replacement…

At this point I feel like his best bet is to just deliberately start rumors that are so ridiculous that nobody would ever believe them, and vehemently deny that any of it ever happened later. Like, he should fully show off his space magic, but like use his class skills and shadow+water to mimic space magic effects so that all of the watching students think he's doing something even more ridiculously. Anyone with half a brain will dismiss the rumors, especially after the combat class stuff and he can fly under the radar by virtue of how ridiculous what everyone believes is.
