Missing 1 file.

This feels a little silly now that I'm actually making it. But I know people do rereads fairly often, and I wondered if more than usual would do some rereading while I'm getting back on track and if they would miss having the active comments sections we get when chapters are hot and fresh. So here is a designated spot just for people to talk about old story stuff if they are so inclined.

It also includes the epub file of the latest chapter edits. They aren't major. It's just sentences getting tweaked here and there for the most part, and you probably won't even notice them. Although I'm sure Lute is very upset that he's no longer on screen at the end of 257 having pie in the tub. (I'll probably salvage things like that and add them to a "bonus scenes" post after I'm finished with the new chapters if they don't make the official cut. )

Of course you guys can talk about whatever story-related things you want here, not just these past few chapters that are included in the epub. It's just here for convenience if anyone wants to have the latest without clicking through all those chapters for new file downloads. (Link is to collection of chapters. I am learning to utilize collections.)

I think it is great that you are taking the time to do things properly. Quality over quantity or regularity. I was originally planning on cancelling my subscription but I'll put that on hold to show support for these changes. If it is not too much to ask I would greatly appreciate it if you could make chapters 1-36 available via e-pub. It would be a great quality of life improvement for those of us who have a strong preference for e-readers over cell phones / computers. Since you are learning to utilize collections, perhaps you could make a collection of all the chapters so far? I would like to introduce my dad to this book but I know the format of downloading individual chapters will put him off and I'm guessing he isn't the only one who finds it a bit too fiddly.

I had recently come up with a theory about Gorgon, and Alden now that they are connected, and wasn't sure where to post it, if at all. This seems like the perfect place. It's been a min since I read the chapters, so you may need to reread the sections to fully follow. It takes place right before Alden is given system access, and while attempting to stabilize Kibby. They are able to enter the potential wish takers mind to see whether or not their motivations are 'pure' enough to have the authority sacrificed. This sounds oddly close to another system can interact with her 'children'. My theory is that Gorgon's community, and more specifically his role within it, are the precursor or idea behind the AIs. Mother is able to truly understand them, offer them options for their new 'path' and then sacrifices their authority to make it a reality. I have a feeling his imprisonment is due to him opposing the 'bastardization' of his religion to fight back the natural order of chaos, or something along those lines. I'm sure I'm not the first to make the connection, but I haven't seen it posted yet.

This would be a neat twist, and Artonans having ancient dealing with his people would explain a few things. Like how he knows something like the original 300 - he did say he was very old, and if he were around when the System was made that would make sense. Also Yovkews existing in his edible list - it would make sense if any of Gorgon's predecessors that are now part of the gremlin visited Artonan I or were offered food from Artonan travelers.

The great Xmas plan It did sound great and indeed I was hoping for more weaves together plot chapters rather than individual thread chapters in book 2 , however I think sleyca has lost her immediate way amongst the thickets of individual characters and possibilities. And the canon of 260 chapters . Like it would make more sense if there was only one gorgan serving all the consulates being multipart magic. And the sentient Contract spell not interacting with non avowed ( or non declared ) as it lives in the Avowed authority space in their heads ( and the grove of blood hungry trees ) could be made more clear as a reason for crime not being prevented . The sinker sender and sal and rogue sways and supervillains and Joe's evil bribes and bashnor all need a more coherent right of existence in the face of the Contract's seeming pan opticon abilities. If not an avowed or knight then no mind reading / talkee possible? Gorgon can't talk to the system except thru a computer. So some form of privacy seems enabled by vote of the grand senate, some by limitation of the spell, some by choice of the contract. These and many more high level interactions will resist being corralled by sleyca and so how she goes about it will dictate the arc of her writing wealth Go sleyca! Whack those loose weeds down and let me << follow the nape under her ponytail as she dances across delta paths >>

> Maybe it’s about travel in general? Speed-types travel fast. There’s that Bike Meister lady who’s like a motorcycle goddess; that’s sort of travel related. > But those didn’t feel right. For one thing, Bike Meister was one of a kind. Nobody had ever gotten it before or since. Bike Meister is definitely one of those "graduation projects". Some Artonan go really into human biker culture, built a truly sick bike, and made darn sure someone was going to use it.

I recently finished a reread, starting at Alden getting to Alis on Thegund to the current chapter, and I’m wondering - why isn’t Alden learning any non-auriad magic? He knows a couple of spells from learning with Kibby, so why did mother only give him an auriad spell book? Wouldn’t the non-auriad? free casting? normal? spells help with Alden’s quiet rabbit profile too? Is this something I missed in the earlier chapters I didn’t reread, maybe something with Joe?

Dervish

I thought he was studying the auriad magic because it was so fun for him? It gives him an extra sort of hand/friend to participate in the casting. Slightly crazy idea: I wonder if the sense of the Auriad developing its own personality is a sign of it being able to develop an ability to provide the second attention so many spells seem to rely on?

Reading chapter 85 and then reading strong bricks really shows how far Alden has come.
