Hello!

I anticipate Chapter 259 being ready for your eyes in about a week.

Based on what I've planned so far, the next few chapters will be longer than the ones I've been writing lately, and they'll be released a week or more apart from each other. So it's looking like larger chunks delivered on a slower schedule is going to be my way forward for the next three or four weeks. If that changes, I'll inform you during next week's update, which should come along with our new chapter.

Remember, if you'd like a refund for a month or a gift link for a free month, just send me a message.

Thank you for reading. Sorry to make you wait longer than usual for the next bit.

Sleyca

Thank you for the update! Hope to get my comment-writing brain back into groove soon; am intrigued at how the rewrite of the last chapter clicked it back into higher emotional stakes territory even though Alden's immediate tension over 'did he ruin Stu's day' momentum was relieved. You keep giving us feels, and they are feels worth savoring! Hope you have a lovely week, and joy in your writing and editing.

I wish I could travel back in time a couple of years for a few days and come back. Just so I could read. Regarding the delay, there's no problem as long as you keep writing chapters like "The Elder's Croak," "Shoes," "Artonan Conversations," etc. I think quality matters more than a strict schedule. Allowing the story to occupy a special place when it's finished, unlike hundreds of others that just needed a little more time to escape mediocrity.

it's odd that the gremlin makes the assumption that every living thing except a select few species is intelligent enough to trigger the rites. Perhaps it's fairly common for Gorgon's species to mutilate their body into different shapes.

Terrestrial_Biped

It's not that it assumes they are intelligent; it's that it's not willing to take the risk, and not willing to accept its vehicle's judgment on the matter. Like, if you handed me a gun and said it was empty, I wouldn't assume it was loaded. But neither would I be willing to point it at something I didn't want destroyed, and I would not accept your word on the matter.

Chapter 13 (The B ranks): > Alden shook his head. He was practically vibrating with energy. “Not really. It’s B. Cudgel Meister.” > “Cudgel?” Gorgon’s voice was incredibly neutral now. Chapter 96 (The B List) (Character notes): > A lot of people wonder why Alden doesn't steal the enchantments from Meister weapons. For one thing, he can't. They're too magically powerful. Meister weapons are given to the Meisters by the System, and maintained or upgraded by it as well. They're a huge deal, sometimes even psychically linked to their owners. They can get replacements if something happens, but they don't want to have to get replacements. (And the System itself might take exception to Alden stealing something it had made specifically for another class of Avowed. Meister weapons can't be sold by their owners, so I think a future, more powerful Alden regularly yanking enchantments off of them in non-emergencies might be viewed as theft of a magical resource from the Triplanets rather than theft from the weapon-holder...still pondering the implications.) Why was Gorgon acting this way in response to a Meister class? is there something about Meisters we don't know? Come to think of it, where the hell is the system allocating everyone's authority for Meister classes? Most of their magic comes from their tool. Not spells and skills. And it seems unlikely that the authority is being assigned to the tool itself since Sleyca has said before that if something happens to it, it can be replaced.

Anthony Lutz

I dont think the magic isn't coming from the tool/weapon, they are merely the conduit for its use. Andrzej the new Cudgel Meister uses some of his authority with Throughblow, which uses authority to protect the thing hit, and then otherwise do an authority blast past it. The various Meisters in class "summon their objects" back to their hands much like Aldens desired auriad spell, which is not an inherrent property of the tools, its a skill that performs a specific variant of a spell similar to what Alden wants to learn. The Meisters we know may be operating under a similar "affixation lag" for their primary skills that applies to the speedsters in gym class, they are all purely foundation point boosted because they need to mentally adapt to speed before they can use their skills (i forget where/who said that in the story, i think it was one of the AgiBrutes?) Edit to add another thought.. Meister tools are just a restriction to increase skill potency, much like Alden needing an entruster; meisters needing their tool, and not a different but perhaps similar tool (eg sword vs knives vs one specific knife), means their authority usage would be closer to perfection.

Chapter 17 (Boe, part 2): > “Eulogy. Mettle gauger. AK.” > “I’m sorry,” said Alden. “Are we speaking in tongues now?” > “Shut up. It’s a really good solve for first thing in the morning. Clearly eulogy is about Hannah’s funeral tomorrow. Afterwards, you’re supposed to travel to Alaska and gauge your mettle. Duh.” that's scarily close to what actually happened. Sleyca you tease.

J Reynolds

Later we find out that the neighborhood that Alden was carrying Zeridee-und'h through was called Little Alaska.

What use would nascent artonan society have had for sinker senders? Perhaps boats were too dangerous to be on and there was some kind of skyborn threat on the oceans that made it essential to travel underwater when crossing the continents.

J Reynolds

Alden is going to struggle at the Snowball Fight. At the moment, he can only have one entruster. I could see Alden deciding that he should be able to take entrustment from a group of people rather than a single person. "Staff at the snowball fight" as his collective entrusters. Doing this would make BoaB OP, I think. It would be useful, though! (Not something that's going to happen in the next few chapters. Or next few decades, really. If at all.)

How are the words coming along?

When someone gives you a time estimate, you should always mentally double it because time estimates are about best case scenarios and life rarely gives the best case scenario.

The story of a normal teenager, only claim to fame was being almost the best at track. Then one day, magic chooses him. He isn’t the fastest, the strongest, or the weirdest, but he has heart and will do anything to make the glorious citizens of Earth proud of their newest Warrior. Until a devious Rabbit hellbent on his destruction enters the fold…to be continued
